The best way to help the people you love? It starts with this one thing… 💙

Our family recently went skiing ⛷️❄️ — fresh air, no (well… almost no) technology, exercise, and being fully in the moment.

It reminded me how important it is to fill your cup first. So many of my clients are running on empty — giving everything to their families, soaking up their stress and negative energy, and leaving nothing for themselves. It’s almost like they think it’s selfish!

When you look after yourself first, you lift your own energy — and when you’re vibing high, it’s contagious. That’s the best way to help the people you love — by leading from the front and showing them what’s possible.

Sneaking drinks from the liquor cabinet in high school.
Drinking in the park while your parents thought you were at a sleepover.
Pub nights at uni.
Backpacking and drinking with other Aussies and Kiwis.
Wine o’clock with other mums because parenting is... a lot.

It’s how we connect.
It’s how we cope.
Until one day, it starts to feel like alcohol is running the show.

As I shared in my book Is It an Addiction or a Habit?, I grew up surrounded by addiction and trauma.
I was neglected as a baby due to the addictions and trauma in my family — and I became so sick I lost 70% of my hearing.

I went through some tough years where I felt isolated and alone — and because alcohol was so normalised in the circles I moved in (here is a photo of me moving in those circles) it could easily have taken my life down a destructive path.

Eventually, I reached a turning point — and chose freedom.
