We have an opening for an OT at Barefoot Therapists which is my multi disciplinary team. OT’s can also work at my farm Gadara Farm. I do train therapists who are interested, to work with our animals while they are here, if they have an interest. Be fun to see you at the farm. I also work in the Child and Family Clinic which is literally a 3 minute drive down the street. So get to work with therapists there as well. It’s a great team and lovely people.

Flexible part-time role with competitive pay, professional development, and genuine work-life balance support.

*Support for Cost of Living* Autumn and winter can be the perfect time to get that all important clinical supervision in AAT, integrated therapies or OT. I have put together a special offer to help with the cost of living crisis. Because it is getting more and more difficult to afford supervision and essential PD, especially in private practice.

If we work on the quirkier edges of professional scope of practice, it is even more important to connect with someone experienced in the field to ensure best practice and your own development.

Cosy up inside for an online chat about your practice - go deeper into how integrative practice works and the most authentic way for you to blend your different ways of working while being in scope.

I am offering an autumn/winter discount - block of 4 sessions for the price of 3. Book in for May, June, July, August.

Perfect for a project, finding balance and focus, animal wellbeing, trauma or ND informed practice, or simply upskilling on meditation, paeds or mental health approaches.

Book into my calendar at times that suit you. Contact admin@barefoottherapists.com.au

Convalescence is often time for a philosophical review. I recently had surgery so am off work, and it’s been a wonderful opportunity to bend like a reed I the wind. Not breaking - just finding the strength in being quietly flexible.

So far I have had a week in hospital and am now getting help while I can’t lift anything or drive.

Every time I get space to myself due to illness or holiday, I tend to come up with new (ADHD activated) work projects. Some of them take flight over the long term, others receive energy and then fizzle out, and some never reach the starting blocks.

This time I am doing it differently. I am aware that my restless mind when I’m meant to be resting, makes up really awesome things to do when I’m better. But it’s also very good at forgetting that when I’m better I will reach my capacity easily as I already have plenty to do.

It is a typical ND thing of not being able to properly assess how much is already on the spinning plates if we aren’t actively spinning the plates each day.

So the mantra is NO NEW PROJECTS.

It has been a time to re-assess what’s working and what’s not. What I will love returning to, and what I won’t. As life changes we need to bend with it. Like those beautiful reeds that can stand upright in no wind and then bend almost horizontal in response to changes in the weather or when strong winds haul them over. Strongly rooted, they allow for any conditions with acceptance, grace and dignity.

I am the reed. And the wind is still. And I can wait quietly to see what the world has in store for me. I don’t need to hustle to fill the stillness.

One thing is for sure, I love working with other therapists on creations they want to take flight over the long term. I won’t be seeing anyone online for a few weeks. But if you are ready to hustle something up, or slow something down, you can book in therapy supervision to focus on integrating animal, equine, nature or ancient practices like yoga, meditation and reiki into your everyday practice.

Time available from mid April. Feel free to email or call.

I work with a lot of people with attachment disorders (mostly undiagnosed but seen in clinical observations). This article talks about the use of the phone as a ‘significant other.’ Hmmm. Makes sense why it’s a hard addiction to break if it’s easing those awful feeling of attachment disorders.

I am still teaching this year. Reach out if you want supervision, equine or animal assisted training, meditation training or any support around integrating therapy and ancient wisdom practices. I’m still here but maybe not doing so much on the socials for a while.

I have a paediatric mental health caseload at the clinic again this year. So I start the day here, with coffee in one of my favourite gardens at waterfallgullycafe And I’m also seeing some adults at the farm for an integrated approach to mental health which includes some ancient wisdom practices which we know are beneficial. Like meditation, rituals, working with natures cycles and being in the presence of animals. It’s been a really refreshing change. Fun to get back on the tools.

What an inspiring couple of days. There are moments in your career when you pinch yourself that you can have a job like this. Teaching Equine Reiki to such an amazing group of dedicated and compassionate people was the sweetest gift. The potency of the experience is never lost on me. From the corporate world to highland cow breeders and busy mums, we connected in the most important way. Through universal loving energy. The horses LOVED it, and we all had a wonderful and deep experience. Me as much as anyone. Because this is how I make a living and yet it feels like a calling or a hobby or a path along which I walk, sometimes holding the hands of others, sometimes carving out time alone.

Often life changing, getting into Reiki and completing level one, can change how we experience life. Forever. It has opened doors for me I wouldn’t have imagined. I feel blessed, and held, in this crazy world of ours. Reiki helps us feel brighter and safer. And for those of us working in the light (where I now place myself with no apology for the pride I feel in that placement having spent a lot of life in a foggy dullness and at times darkness) we need to stay in the light. To lead people out of the dark craziness of their experience. I am not a healer. Only a simple facilitator of something much bigger than all of us. And I love my job!

Here’s the thing about physios and speechies working with animals in therapy. I get asked a lot if I can teach them equine or animal assisted therapy. And yes, of course, this is what I love as well as teaching OT’s, counsellors, social workers and psychologists. Here’s why….

I am an OT whose clinical experience spans 3 decades including psychiatry, neurology, paediatrics, paediatric neurosurgery, intellectual disabilities, neurodivergent folk, mental health adults and children. I love it all.

I understand Hippotherapy as a modality and am on the international Hippotherapy committee run by AHA. I’m accredited with Medicare as a mental health provider so deliver better access to mental health services. As a registered provider with NDIS, I can help navigate different areas of the sector and can meet you wherever you are when you start. Which is different for each professional.

I employ 25 people in a multi disciplinary Child and Family Team. So I understand common areas of clinical overlap and the discrete and exceptional core skills and services provided by different disciplines, how to develop programs and deliver to different groups of people using uniques approaches and skills they have developed.

It is essential to learn about animal assisted therapy and ‘how’ to integrate your toolkit using critical thinking in line with animal wellbeing and attunement. And that takes multi dimensional skill.

So yes I will support your journey if you are a speechie or a physio. Email
