Medial and Lateral Ankle Sprains.

Medial ankle sprain occurs when the ankle rolls inwards during sudden or twisting movements most commonly injuring the deltoid ligament.

Lateral ankle sprain occur when the foot rolls inwards most commonly injurying the Anterior Talo-Fibular Ligament (ATFL) and Calcaneofibular ligament (CFL).

Recovery time differs depending on the severity and type of sprain (Grade 1-3).

Grade 1- slight stretching and damage to the ligament tissues.

Grade 2- partial tearing of the ligament tissues.

Grade 3- complete tear of the ligament tissues.

Physiotherapy is highly recommended for early return to sport and prevention of recurring injury. Some of the treatments could include but not limited to are listed below

⁃ Manual therapy
+ Massage therapy
+ Dry needling
+ IASTM
+ Joint mobilisations

⁃ Exercise load management.
+ AROM and joint mobility
+ Strength training
+ Proprioceptive control

Taping of the ankle will assist with pain management particularly during the rehabilitation phase.

Elbow Injury

Two of the most common elbow injuries seen commonly in the clinic are Tennis Elbow and Golfers Elbow.



Funnily enough these injuries do not only occur in sports however are extremely seen in the office and trade population groups due to repetitive micro-overloading of the forearm muscles.

Physiotherapy is highly recommended for pain management and recovery of these tendon injuries. Some of the treatments could include but not limited to are listed below

⁃ Manual therapy/Massage therapy.
⁃ Exercise load management.
⁃ Acupuncture/Dry needling.
⁃ Strapping.
⁃ Strength and mobility exercises.

Early PRP injection intervention can also assist with rapid recovery and return to sport and work.

Shoulder pain

What is shoulder pain ? Shoulder pain is a discomfort of the shoulder including the joint itself or the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the joint..

Common causes of shoulder pain doesn’t always stem from an underlying disease. Could be overuse , disuse, strain, work and sports related or sleeping on the side. Shoulder pain can be referred from spinal pathologies I.e. cervical regions.

One of the most common causes of shoulder pain is rotator cuff tendinitis. This is when the rotator cuff is inflamed or trapped in your shoulder.

Some of the symptoms to look out for may include;
⁃ Pain or weakness caused when raising, lowering or rotating your arm
⁃ Clicking sound or feeling when moving your arm in certain positions
⁃ Shoulder pain that may worsen at night

Physiotherapy is highly recommended for pain management . Some of the treatments may include but not limited to are listed below;

⁃ Manual therapy/Massage
⁃ Acupuncture/Dry needling
⁃ Cupping
⁃ Strapping
⁃ Strength and Mobility exercises

Obtain treatment as soon as possible as the shoulder structures are easily aggravated and may worsen to more serious pathologies eg. Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen shoulder).
