Snake & Spider Bites: What You Need to Know

All known or suspected snake bites should be treated as potentially life-threatening and require urgent medical attention.

Do you know what to do if you or someone near you is bitten by a snake or spider? Here is a quick first aid guide for snake, funnel-web spider and mouse spider bites:
1️⃣ Apply pressure and keep still – remain as calm and immobile as possible
2️⃣ If the bite is on a limb, apply a broad pressure bandage (crepe preferred) over the bite site
3️⃣ Starting just above the fingers or toes, wrap a firm crepe or elasticised bandage (10–15 cm wide) upward along the limb
4️⃣ Apply the bandage as tightly as possible
5️⃣ Immobilise the limb using splints
6️⃣ Call Triple Zero (000) and seek medical aid immediately

Knowing what to do can save a life.
