Does collagen supplementation actually work for tendon injuries?

The honest answer: the structural evidence is stronger than most people realise — but most people are taking it wrong.

We've published a full clinical article covering:
→ Why tendons specifically benefit from collagen (and muscle doesn't)
→ The dose that actually works — and why 5g isn't enough
→ Why Vitamin C co-supplementation matters
→ When to take it relative to your training
→ Why progressive loading is still the most important part of your recovery

Promising structural evidence, inconclusive clinical outcomes, and why dose and timing matter more than most people realise.

Every season we see it — athletes 7 or 8 months post ACL surgery, feeling great, surgeon has "cleared" them, ready to go. And the numbers just aren't there.

9 months is the minimum. It's a biological reality — the graft is still maturing. But clearance without objective testing is guesswork, regardless of the timeframe.

We've published a full clinical article on what ACL rehab actually requires before return to sport — covering graft ligamentisation, the Melbourne Return to Sport criteria, VALD force plate testing at each stage, and the psychological readiness screen that most programs skip entirely.

Why returning to sport at 9 months is based on guesswork — unless you've met the criteria.

Welcome Josh!
Josh holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and brings over 10 years of hands-on experience in resistance training to his clinical practice. He takes an active management approach — combining physiotherapy with exercise-based rehabilitation to help people move better, get stronger, and stay that way.

But first, you need to be out of pain. Josh uses expert manual therapy, dry needling, and remedial massage to deliver real symptom relief — often from the very first session. Once you're moving freely, he'll build on that with a tailored exercise program to make sure it sticks.

His focus isn't just on getting you out of pain. It's on building the physical capacity to stop it coming back.

Meet Hugo!
Hugo is a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist who brings a genuine passion for evidence-based, person-centred care to every patient he sees. Originally from the UK, Hugo graduated from the University of Birmingham with a First Class Honours degree in Physiotherapy — earning the Clinical Education Prize for the highest clinical mark in his cohort — before going on to work within the NHS for over three years, including as a Senior Physiotherapist.

With a strong clinical background spanning sports rehabilitation, persistent pain, rheumatology, and post-operative care, Hugo takes a thorough, whole-person approach to assessment and treatment. He is equally comfortable working one-on-one or leading group exercise and education sessions, and has extensive experience supporting and mentoring junior clinicians.

Hugo is a fluent French and English speaker, and has invested heavily in his ongoing professional development — completing advanced training in pain science, shoulder and knee conditions, rheumatological assessment, and early cancer recognition, among many other areas.

Now based in Perth and proudly part of the Move team, Hugo is excited to bring his experience and enthusiasm to the local community. When not in the clinic, you will likely find him staying active and embracing everything the Perth lifestyle has to offer.
