🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀
Our wonderful residents have been busy baking and decorating beautiful pink cupcakes. From sifting and mixing to icing and sprinkling, every cupcake was made with care and love 💕 These sweet treats will be enjoyed during afternoon tea as a symbol of hope and solidarity.
Let’s also take a moment to reflect on the impact of breast cancer in Australia:
📊 Key Statistics:
- 1 in 7 Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
- 58 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia.
- In 2025, it's estimated that 20,973 women and 221 men will be diagnosed.
- Sadly, around 3,272 women and 36 men will lose their lives to breast cancer this year.
- The five-year survival rate is now 92.3% for women and 87% for men, thanks to early detection and improved treatments.
🎗️ Reminder: Early detection saves lives. If you're eligible, please book your breast screening and encourage your loved ones to do the same.
Together, we raise awareness, support research, and honour those affected. 💗

Meet Romi Hadi– Our Aged Care Onsite Pharmacist (ACOP) 💊
Romi as part of our team, is onsite every week, bringing expert onsite medication review and pharmacy care directly to our aged care residents and community.
What does ACOP do?
Supports our aged care residents by reviewing their medications, ensuring they are safe, effective, and tailored to individual needs.
Works closely with our clinical team to improve quality use of medicines and reduce medication-related risks.
Collaborates with our community nursing, Dr Chris and Medical Clinic team to provide Home Medicine Reviews (HMRs) in the community, helping our community clients and families understand their medications better and feel confident in managing them at home.
BDH is proud to have pioneered the ACOP program in our region—strengthening safe, person-centred care and ensuring our residents and community has direct access to specialist pharmacy knowledge right here at Boort District Health.

Boort District Health has had an interesting and colourful history.
Until 1892 the first semblance of a hospital service was provided from a local hotel by John King, a doctor’s son. A room at Dr. Birds home then became the hospital until such time as a cottage hospital was built in 1903.
This hospital was rebuilt in 1920 as a private hospital and subsequently became the Boort Bush Nursing Hospital in 1931. Following a decision by the Hospital Board to adopt public hospital status, the existing hospital was built on its present site and opened in 1961 with capital works funding provided by the State Government.
Over the years the hospital has undergone a number of refurbishment’s and expansions. The Day Care Centre was built in 1989 and a new nursing home wing in 1997. In 1979 the Hospital Board auspiced the construction of a 30 bed hostel on crown land.
In 1989 the Board established a community health service for the district and following a series of amalgamations an expanded range of services is now provided through Northern District Community Health Service. Other outreach services which have been developed over the years include the District Nursing Service, Adult Day Activity and Social Support Programs.
The Dental Clinic was first opened in 1977 and has continued to provide much needed dental services to Boort and the surrounding district. Physiotherapy services commenced in 2007 and continue to provide service one day per week.
In June 2008, the Board resolved to change the name of Boort District Hospital to Boort District Health. In 2014, the State Government provided $14 million to update the buildings. In 2016, a new 25 bed Ageing in Place facility, 7 room Acute area, 3 bed Urgent care centre, new Kitchen, Laundry and Activity rooms were constructed.
