👐 Osteopathy vs. other manual therapies 💪 What’s the difference?

Many hands-on therapies focus on easing a specific symptom, like a stiff neck or tight shoulder. Osteopathy takes a whole-body, evidence-informed approach, assessing how muscles, joints, fascia, and posture interact.

An osteopath looks beyond the area that hurts today, identifying movement patterns, tension imbalances, and compensations that can affect function elsewhere in the body. Treatment may involve gentle manual techniques, guided movement, and posture support, all aimed at improving overall mobility and body balance.

We’re not saying you shouldn’t get a massage every now and again. But osteopathy provides a broader perspective on how your body functions as an interconnected system.

By understanding the body holistically, osteopathy can support more efficient movement, may reduce strain, and help you feel more comfortable in everyday life.

Think of your body like a busy highway.

Tension in muscles, stiffness in joints, or tight fascia can create traffic jams, slowing everything down. Gentle osteopathic and lymphatic drainage techniques work like clearing blockages and smoothing the lanes, so movement flows freely.

When the “traffic” eases, muscles, joints, and connective tissue can communicate and function efficiently, allowing your body to move comfortably and respond to everyday stresses more effectively.

Everyday movements like bending, reaching, or lifting may become smoother, and the body has a better chance to support its own natural recovery processes.

If stiffness or tension is slowing your body down, call 03 97629445 today to see how osteopathy or lymphatic drainage can help.

Progress report......

It has been 10 days since my hip replacement at and it has been nothing but fantastic.

From the wonderful staff at the hospital, to the amazing people at . I have been well and truely looked after during my recovery.

Everyday I wake up feeling a little better and a little stronger. The commitment from the lovely people at Donvale is unwavering and everyone is just lovely.

I also want to give a shout out to my amazing team at for your continued support and for just being the most awesome team of practitioners anyone could ask for (and thank you for my flowers 🌺).

I will be out early next week with home exercises and slowly getting back to normal.

P.s. I could get used to this pampering 😜

💧 Fascia loves water!

Your connective tissues need water to stay supple. Keeping hydrated helps your muscles and fascia glide smoothly, supporting overall movement and comfort.
Keep a bottle nearby and sip throughout the day-hydration is one of the simplest ways to support your myotherapy, lymphatic and osteopathic care 👐

🧠 Brain Injury Awareness Month 2026

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month - a time to recognise the challenges faced by those living with brain injuries and to raise awareness about support and recovery.

While osteopathy doesn’t treat brain injuries directly, structural alignment, gentle movement, and posture support can play a role in comfort, mobility, and overall wellbeing during recovery. Hands-on care can help reduce tension in the neck, shoulders, and spine, which may assist with everyday function and support the body’s natural movement.

Supporting those with brain injuries also means encouraging safe, gradual activity, good posture, and mindful movement - simple steps that can contribute to a more comfortable and active lifestyle. See our Exercise Physiologist to learn how.

If you or someone you care for could benefit from guidance on movement and posture, reach our friendly team on 03 97629445 to arrange a time that suits you.

So far, and sooooo good😁.

Yvette here. I'm the proud owner of Body@Boronia. Usually I can't stand posting about myself on a public forum, but right now, I'm so emotionally grateful that I just had to share.

Yesterday, I've finally had a total hip replacement. I've been talking about it for years that "I need to get my hip fixed" but never had the chance to get around to it.

The journey leading up to yesterday had been long and painful. It stopped me for doing the things that I loved such as hiking, horse riding, gym, boot camps, and just walking in general for more than 20 mins.

So yesterday, I made the leap and did it.

Over the years, I have been to many, many conferences, seminars, and webinars about how to better to treat you with painful hips, and that has all come in very handy for myself today too.

I'm a little emotional right now as I'll soon be back doing what I love as long as I do my rehab and see my wonderful practitioners at to help me rebuild my muscles and soft tissue, and most importantly, my strength.

I'll keep you informed about my progress over the week as I'll soon be heading into Donvale Rehab to start my recovery journey.

I am so very grateful to the wonderful staff at and to my amazing surgeon and his team Mr. George Bousounis. I cannot thank you enough.

See you all again soon better than ever.

P.s. Mr. George Bousounis told me that I was will over due to replace my hip, and that it was well and truly "stuffed" (he used more technical terms, but you get the gist.

📚 Phrase of the Month: Myofascial release

Myo- = Greek mys, meaning muscle (literally “mouse”). Ancient Greeks thought contracting muscles looked like tiny mice scuttling under your skin 🐁💪 Picture a mouse doing push-ups every time you flex your bicep!!!
Fascia = Latin fascia, meaning band or strip of cloth. Fun twist: it shares a root with fascinare, “to bewitch or enchant”. It makes sense - an enchantment is a binding of a sort! Could your fascia be quietly “bewitching” your muscles into moving better? 😄
Pronunciation: my-oh-FASH-ee-uhl re-LEASE
In myotherapy and osteopathy, myofascial release is a gentle hands-on approach that eases tension in muscles and connective tissue, helping your body move more freely.
If you’d like the bindings around your little mice released, call 039762 9445to make an appointment with us at Body@Boronia.

If your posture has started to resemble a question mark, join the club - modern life is practically designed to bend us out of shape.

Between long days at the desk, endless driving, and that tiny device we still call a phone (even though it’s really a camera/newspaper/calculator/communications tower in disguise), it’s no wonder our spines feel a bit betrayed 📱💺😅

Sitting, slouching and tech-necking slowly create imbalances that tighten your neck, round your shoulders, and make your mid-back grumble. But help is at hand.

Our osteopaths and myotherapists assess how your muscles and joints are working together and use hands-on techniques to improve mobility and ease discomfort. And we’ll probably recommend a few small tweaks too — like lifting your screen, taking movement breaks, and occasionally resisting the siren song of your phone.

Call 03 9762 9445 to make an appointment with the osteos and/or myos here at Body@Boronia today. (Preferably without tech-necking while you do it!)

📚 Word of the Day: Kyphosis 📚

The word kyphosis has been bending through time for more than two millennia. From the Greek kyphos, meaning bent or hu**ed, it was used by Hippocrates to describe forward curvature of the upper spine. Centuries later, physicians revived the term to classify postural changes and spinal deformities - some linked to conditions like Pott’s disease.

Today, health care providers use kyphosis to describe the normal thoracic curve - assessing when that curve becomes exaggerated and affects balance, movement, or breathing.

Language, like the spine, evolves - sometimes with a little curve of its own. 🌿💬

You might think you need to run a marathon 🏃‍➡️ or blast through a high-intensity workout for your movement to “count” - and brilliant if you enjoy that - but your body also thrives on the small, surprising stuff.

Mindfully sinking into a squat to pick something up, bear-walking your way up the stairs, or giving your feet a slow stretch before you even step out of bed all help keep your musculoskeletal system mobile and balanced. And if you want a little more, a gentle ten minute stretch session will do you a world of good!

If you’re feeling stiff or out of rhythm, the team at Body@Boronia are here to help support your mobility and ease those daily niggles. Call us on 03 9762 9445 to book an appointment.

🌿 Your Body Is One Connected System

Think your ankle doesn’t matter? Think again! A restriction there can subtly change the way you walk, sending ripples of tension up through your knee, hip, spine, and even your shoulder. Over time, these compensations quietly build up - and it doesn’t cause any pain for months or years later, and you can’t even remember the original injury 😅.

Osteopaths assess the entire kinetic chain, identifying hidden restrictions before they cause bigger problems. Addressing tension early helps your muscles, joints, and posture work together smoothly - no wobbling required.
