🦷 World Cavity-Free Day
Let’s Keep Every Smile Healthy 😁

Whether you wear full dentures or a partial denture, good oral care is still your best friend!

For those with some natural teeth, remember cavities can still sneak in around your remaining teeth or under denture clasps. And for full denture wearers, a clean mouth keeps your gums healthy, breath fresh, and dentures fitting comfortably.

✨ Top tips for a “cavity-free” mouth:

🦷 Brush any remaining teeth and clean your dentures daily.

🦷 Gently brush your gums, tongue, and cheeks to keep them fresh.

🦷 Take dentures out at night to let your mouth rest.

🦷 Visit your dental prosthetist regularly for checks and professional advice.

This World Cavity-Free Day, let’s celebrate all smiles: natural, partial, or fully restored! 💙

🥦🍝 Top Foods to Start With When You Get Dentures

🦷✨ Just got your new dentures? Congrats on the fresh smile! Now, when it comes to eating, think baby steps (without the baby food, unless you really like purée 😅).

Here are some denture friendly starters:
🍽Scrambled eggs – soft, tasty, and zero drama.
🍽Cooked veggies – carrots, pumpkin, zucchini, all nice and gentle.
🍽 Fish or tender chicken – easy protein wins!
🍽Pasta & rice – comfort food that plays nicely with your dentures.
🍽Bananas & ripe pears – soft fruits = easy chewing.

Pro tip: Cut food small, chew slowly, and practice chewing on both sides. Before you know it, you’ll be back to enjoying more variety! 😁

🍽️ “How can I chew better with dentures?”
At first, chewing with dentures can feel a bit like trying to eat with a mouthful of marbles. 😅 But don’t worry practice (and a few tricks) makes perfect.

Here’s how to get your bite back on track:

🦷Start soft – Eggs, fish, cooked veggies, and pasta are your new best friends. Save the steak for later.
🦷Small is smart – Cut food into bite-sized pieces. Your dentures will thank you.
🦷Chew evenly – Use both sides of your mouth at the same time to keep things balanced (and prevent the “see-saw” effect).
🦷Take it slow – No need to rush, your gums are still learning the moves.
🦷Avoid the troublemakers – Super sticky or hard foods can make your dentures slide around like they’re on roller skates.

With a little patience, your dentures will go from “rookie chewer” to “five-star foodie” in no time. 😁

😄 Top Tips to NOT Lose Your Dentures

After hearing all the wild stories of runaway smiles, here’s how to keep your dentures safe and sound (and out of the dog’s mouth 😅):

🦷Use a denture case – Not a tissue, not a napkin, not the bedside water glass. A proper case with your name on it.
🦷Keep them up high – Pets + dentures = disaster. Store them somewhere paws and curious grandkids can’t reach.
🦷 Label them – Yes, really! Just like school socks. A labelled case makes all the difference, especially in hospitals or aged care.
🦷 Make it a habit – Always put them in the same safe spot when you take them out. Your future self will thank you.
🦷 Travel smart – Pack them in your carry-on, not in the hotel bathroom where they’ll get left behind.

Remember: your dentures aren’t just teeth, they’re your smile, your confidence, and your ticket to steak night. Keep them safe! 😁

🦷🕵️‍♂️ “What are some common ways people lose their dentures?”
Believe it or not, dentures can be surprisingly adventurous. Here are some of the top ways they mysteriously disappear:

😴 Wrapped in a tissue – Classic mistake. Next stop? The bin.
🐶 The dog got them – For some reason, pets think dentures are deluxe chew toys.
🏥 Hospital stays – Dentures and tissues on trays = a fast trip to the laundry.
✈️ Travel mishaps – Left in hotel bathrooms, airplane seat pockets, and the occasional taxi.
🍷 A fun night out – Let’s just say… a few laughs, a few drinks, and suddenly no one knows where your smile went.

👉 Pro tip: Always use a labelled denture case, never wrap them in tissue, and keep them far from curious paws. Your dentures are priceless, so don’t let them become the next missing persons case! 😅

🦷🪥 “Can I use regular toothpaste on dentures?”
Sure… if you want your dentures to age faster than a banana in summer 😅.

Regular toothpaste is made for natural teeth, it’s a bit too rough for dentures. The tiny abrasives in it can scratch the surface, and once those scratches are there, stains and bacteria move in like uninvited houseguests.

Here’s what to do instead:
✔️ Use a soft denture brush and mild soap or a denture cleaner, gentle but effective.
✔️ Rinse your dentures after meals to keep food from hanging around.
✔️ After brushing and cleaning them at night, leave them dry to prevent bacterial growth.

Think of your dentures like a shiny new car, you wouldn’t wash it with sandpaper, right? Treat them kindly, and they’ll keep you smiling for years to come 😁

🚬🦷 “How do I keep my dentures clean if I smoke?”
We get it, life’s full of habits, and smoking can be a tough one to kick. But when it comes to your dentures, to***co can be a real troublemaker. Think yellow stains, stubborn odours, and bacteria that throw wild parties in your mouth 😬.

But don’t worry, we’re not here to lecture! We’re here to help you keep those pearly whites looking fresh.

Here’s how to outsmart the smoke:
🧼 Clean them daily – Soak and brush your dentures every day with a denture cleaner (not toothpaste, it’s too harsh!).
🪥 Clean your mouth too – Gently brush your gums, tongue, and palate to keep things fresh and healthy.
💨 Rinse often – Especially after smoking or eating, don’t let stains settle in like an unwanted houseguest.
🧽 Avoid shortcuts – No scrubbing with bleach or harsh cleaners! We want clean, not corroded.
👨‍⚕️ See your dental professionals regularly – We’ll give your dentures a deep clean and check for any smoke-related wear and tear.

And hey, if you're ever thinking about quitting, your mouth (and your dentures) will throw you a thank-you party. 🎉

🐾🦷 “How do I keep my dentures away from pets?”
Ah yes, the battle of pet vs. prosthetic. If you've ever found your dentures halfway buried in the garden or being proudly paraded around the house like a chew toy... you're not alone 😅.

Why do pets love dentures?
Because to them, they’re the perfect combo:
✅ Warm
✅ Smelly (no offence)
✅ And oh-so chewable

💡 Here’s how to keep your furry friends from turning your smile into their next snack:
🦷 Always store dentures in a proper case, preferably with a lid, not a napkin on the bedside table.
🛗 Keep them up high, cats can jump, dogs can climb… so aim for Fort Knox-level security.
🚪 Bathroom cabinets are your friend, just make sure they’re dry and clean inside.

Remember: your dentures cost a bit more than your pet's favourite squeaky toy. Keep them safe, or you might end up explaining to your dentist, “The dog ate my teeth.” 😬

🏥🦷 “How do I keep my dentures from vanishing during a hospital stay?”
Ah yes, the great denture disappearance act - a tale as old as time (or at least as old as the hospital lunch menu) 😅.

Let’s be honest: hospitals are great at saving lives, but not always at keeping track of tiny, removable teeth. So here’s how to keep your chompers safe and accounted for:

✅ Label, label, label! – A labelled denture container is your best friend. Bonus points if it’s got your name and number on it (your dentures aren’t shy, we promise).
✅ Use a hard case – Don’t wrap them in a tissue… unless you want a nurse to definitely throw them out thinking it's rubbish.
✅ Tell staff – Let your care team know you wear dentures. They can help make sure they’re stored safely during surgeries or scans.
✅ Take them out when needed – If you're drowsy or heading into a procedure, it’s best to take them out beforehand. Safer for everyone - including your dentures!

Because nothing ruins a hospital stay quite like waking up and realising your smile’s gone on a solo adventure. 🫣

🦷⏳ “When should I replace my dentures?”
Well… if your dentures have been with you longer than your car, your last phone, and your favourite pair of slippers—it might be time 😅.

On average, dentures should be replaced every 5 to 7 years. Why? Because your mouth changes over time, even if your dentures don’t. That perfect fit from years ago? It’s probably more “wobbly handshake” than “firm grip” by now.

Signs it might be time to say goodbye to your old set:
🔄 They feel loose or shift when talking or eating
😬 They’re causing sore spots or rubbing
🦷 They’re cracked, worn, or stained beyond rescue
📉 Your facial shape has changed, or your bite feels “off”

Think of new dentures like a wardrobe upgrade for your smile—fresher, comfier, and confidence-boosting!

So if your dentures are looking a little tired, don’t wait for them to quit on you mid-bite. Come see us for a check-up, we’ll let you know if it’s time for a new set!

🏡🦷 “What do I need to do differently with my dentures when moving into aged care?”
Great question, and a very important one! When you move into aged care, there’s a lot to keep track of… but let’s make sure your teeth don’t become one of life’s little mysteries 😅.

Here’s the denture friendly checklist for a smooth transition:

📦 Label everything – And we mean everything, including your denture case. Think of it as naming your favourite coffee mug, only much more important and way less replaceable.

🦷 Daily cleaning still matters – Make sure staff know your cleaning routine (and that soaking them in a cup of tea doesn’t count!). If you need help, the care team can assist, just let them know.

🔄 Check-ups aren’t cancelled – You still need regular denture check-ups to make sure everything fits, stays clean, and that your gums are happy campers.

📋 Include dentures in your care plan – Mention them when you move in so staff know they’re part of your daily routine. The more they know, the safer your smile!

And finally, don’t store your dentures in tissues—that’s a one-way trip to the bin faster than you can say “Where’s my smile?” 😬
