Cathryn’s Story: From Cardiac Arrest to 63kg Down and Thriving
Ten years ago, Cathryn’s life changed in an instant.
A cardiac arrest in a gym.
A defibrillator implanted in her chest.
A moment that could have taken everything - but instead became the beginning of a long, brave journey back to health.
Like many people who go through trauma, the weight crept on during the lows that followed. Health felt hard. Motivation felt distant. And the journey back felt overwhelming.
Cathryn lost the initial weight well - but like so many people, she hit that frustrating plateau. She couldn’t quite get to where she truly wanted to be.
Then came a simple, honest comment from her cardiologist:
“Just lose the extra weight, hey? That’ll help fix up your challenges with your heart, okay.”
That moment stuck.
It wasn’t harsh. It wasn’t shaming. It was caring - and it was honest.
And it lit a spark.
From there, Cathryn dropped a further 31 kilograms, in just over one year, finishing a total transformation of 63kg lost- from 128kg at her heaviest to 65kg today.
Not overnight.
Not with perfection.
But over 10 years of persistence, setbacks, courage, and relentless self-belief.
Cathryn is one of the most wonderful humans you’ll meet. She has been through more than most people ever see - and yet she chose to fight for her health, her future, and her life.
This is what real transformation looks like.
It’s not just about aesthetics.
It’s about heart health, confidence, energy, and getting more years with the people you love.
Cathryn, I am so proud of you. Your story will inspire more people than you’ll ever know.
In Australia, around 70% of adults aged 55–64 are overweight or obese, and cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in this age group. Carrying excess body fat significantly increases the risk of heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, and joint degeneration. But the powerful part? Even in your 60s, improving nutrition, movement, and body composition can dramatically reduce risk and add vibrant, healthy years to your life. Let’s support each other to thrive at every stage!
