The latest edition of WAIMH Perspectives in Infant Mental Health has just been released.

It is an honour to be a member of the editorial team and come together with like-minded professionals from across the world to promote infant mental health.

This edition marks an intentional focus within Perspectives to pay close attention to issues of diversity, equity, inclusivity and belonging in infant mental health practice, research, and policy.

In this issue, I review the book: Finding your way with your baby. The emotional life of parents and babies by Dilys Daws and Dr Alexandra de Rementeria

"What this book does especially well is to highlight the importance of the relationship between parent and baby. It gently encourages parents to reflect on the ways they interact with their babies without shame or judgment. The authors examine common parenting challenges such as sleep, settling, and feeding from a relational perspective."

Also in this edition:
✳ A descriptive paper that provides insights into the lived experiences of mothers with infants, from the Alexandra Township, in South Africa.
✳ A paper by Astrid Berg (WAIMH President-Elect): WAIMH and Global Crises. A brief history and a way forward.
* An interview by Salisha Maharaj with Dr. Hisako Watanabe who shares her ongoing exploration of the Japanese concept of ‘Amae’ and honouring the deep wisdom inherent in Japanese ways of being.

Marte Meo is coming to the beautiful Southern Highlands!

I am excited to facilitate a face-to-face introductory workshop on the Marte Meo Method in Bowral on Saturday 14th September, 2024.

Marte Meo means "on ones own strengths" and is a strengths-based approach to working with families, developed by Maria Aarts in Holland more than 50 years ago. It was borne from her work with autistic children in the 70's but is now applied as a relational and communication model of supporting interactions from infancy right through to aged care.

Marte Meo is the "how to" of attachment and provides professionals with a framework to support the parent-infant dyad in a practical and concrete way.

Through practical video demonstrations of parent and child interactions, you will learn:
* An overview of the Marte Meo Method
* How to identify the basic supportive communication elements of the Marte Meo Method (leading and following skills)
* How to support the dyadic relationship and child development through everyday interactions
* An introduction to video interaction analysis

If you are new to Marte Meo, then it will give you a sense of whether the practitioner training will be a good fit for you and your practice.

The training is aimed at professionals who work with families with children aged 0-5 years and early childhood educators.

Can't make it to Bowral? Online and Sydney-based training is also available. See my website for more details:
