We’re pleased to welcome Dr Michael Ryan to Highlands GP!

Dr Ryan will begin consulting from our Bowral practice in the new year. Some of you may have had the pleasure of meeting him already from when he did a short locum placement with us earlier in the year.

Dr Ryan and his family have recently relocated to the Southern Highlands from Newcastle, where he worked as a Palliative Care Visiting Medical Officer in the Hunter New England region, alongside his work in General Practice.

He brings special interests in children’s health, palliative care, and chronic disease management, and enjoys all aspects of General Practice, particularly the opportunity to care for entire families and foster long-term relationships with his patients.

The HGP team is proud to support our very own Nurse Practitioner Alicia, who will be taking part in the MS Gong Ride this Sunday.

Alicia has shown incredible dedication, raising over $2,000 for a cause close to her heart. The team recently came together for a morning tea to celebrate her efforts and wish her all the best for the ride ahead. 🚴‍♀️👏

The MS Gong Ride has been running since 1981, bringing together thousands of cyclists each year to support people living with multiple sclerosis — a truly inspiring community event.

Have you met our Reception superstar Jess? As a senior member of the team, Jess is no stranger to challenges – but this June she’s taking on something truly special.
Jess is lacing up her runners for the Heart Foundation’s Run for Heart fundraiser! Despite not being a seasoned runner, she’s committed to running at least 42.2km this month to help raise vital funds for heart disease research. 🫀
We couldn’t be prouder of Jess for stepping up for such a great cause. Let’s cheer her on every step of the way – go Jess! 👏🎉

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 💚

Bowel cancer claims the lives of 101 Australians every week (5,276 people a year) – but it’s one of the most treatable types of cancer when detected early.

While the risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn’t discriminate, affecting people of all ages.

280 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this week (14,534 people a year.

If you have noticed any changes such as unexplained weight loss, changes in bowel habits, fatigue, blood in your stool or swelling of the abdomen please see your GP to discuss your symptoms. For more information, please visit the below website:

✨ All good things come to an end…

We’re bidding farewell to Bavly, who is wrapping up his time with us as he prepares for his final exams and the next stage of his medical career.

Bavly is a Phase 3 medical student from the University of Wollongong who has spent the past 12 months at HGP, completing his placement under the guidance of Dr Grant Lewis and Dr Akmal Syafiq.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the patients who have supported Bavly’s training by allowing him to be part of their care. Your support plays a crucial role in shaping the future of medicine.

At HGP, we take great pride in contributing to the education of future healthcare professionals. Teaching the next generation of doctors and nurses is a valued tradition within our practice — and one that we are proud to continue.

Wishing Bavly all the very best in his exams and future career — your dedication and compassion will serve you well!
