FLU Vaccines arrived TODAY. We now have both the government issued and private flu vaccines. Plus we have COVID boosters too. First weekend flu clinic will be Saturday 5 April, from 1pm til late. Next one will be Sat 12 April. Phone reception to secure your place. P.S: We're already starting to see Influenza cases in the Highlands

NEWS!!! We are thrilled to welcome Dr Patrick Mahony to our GP team. Dr Pat was born and raised in the Southern Highlands. After working for CSIRO in Canberra he studied Medicine at the University of Sydney. He worked in Newcastle at the John Hunter and Mater Hospitals before completing GP training in Adelaide. Dr Pat’s interests include chronic disease management, men’s health, mental health and dermatology. He starts with The Bowral Doctor on 4 April. He will be consulting every second Friday to start with. Dr Pat also works full time at the Health Centre at RAAF Base Richmond.

Flu Season is approaching. We have our private flu vaccines in stock. The free government vaccines (for Over 65's and Under 5's and those at higher risk of complications from influenza) are due to arrive late March/early April. We will do several weekend flu clinics in April/May. Stay tuned for more details.

QFever vaccine is back in stock!

UPDATE: Q-Fever vaccines are currently out of stock nationwide.
Do you or someone you know need a Q-Fever vaccination? Q-Fever is caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii which infects wild and domestic animals, and their ticks. Humans are mainly infected from cattle, sheep and goats.

Q-Fever vaccine is recommended for adolescents aged ≥15 years and adults who are at risk of infection with C. burnetii. These include: veterinarians, vet nurses and vet university students, abattoir workers, farmers, professional dog and cat breeders, agricultural college staff and students, wildlife and zoo workers who work with high-risk animals, incl kangaroos and bandicoots, animal refuge/shelter/boarding facilities workers.

Dr Perry is a trained vaccinator for Q-Fever so you can book an apt with The Bowral Doctor. Stock is expected to become available in mid February 2025. Practices no longer have this vaccine on hand, it has to be ordered in for each patient so if you need this vaccination for work or study contact us ASAP on 4811 1391 so we can get your order in.

Walking group will go ahead every Wednesday unless the weather is truly horrendous. We'll post something here on Facebook by 7am if walking group is cancelled otherwise rug up, bring a rain jacket and embrace the different seasons. Join us 7.30am Wednesdays for a 30 minute walk.

Private Flu vaccines are now in stock for 5-64 year olds. Govt. funded flu vaccines (including the Over 65 dose) will arrive end of March/early April. Phone us after Easter to make an appointment. We will be holding a couple of weekend flu clinics in April. More details soon.

Unsure of the latest recommendations for COVID Boosters? Current advice from the Department of Health is for adults 65+, and people aged 18 to 64 who are severely immunocompromised, to receive a booster dose every 6 months. All other adults are eligible to get a booster every 12 months. Boosters are not recommended for kids and teenagers. We have the latest vaccine Moderna XBB 1.5 in stock. Note: COVID boosters can be given at the same time a flu vaccine.

Telehealth appointments: Please note there are specific rules relating to telehealth. It is a legislative requirement that GPs must only perform a telehealth (phone or video) service where they have an established clinical relationship with the patient.

An established clinical relationship is defined by Medicare as where
the medical practitioner who performs the service has provided a face-to-face service to the patient in the last 12 months.

That means if your last face-to-face appointment was more than 12 months ago you are not eligible for the telehealth Medicare rebate.
