Previously a personal trainer and boxing coach in Melbourne, Luke was inspired to create PHJ by his mum, who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in 2021. Luke and his mum spent years researching diet & lifestyle options that could help fight cancer. Green tea was one of the first focal points at the beginning of the journey. This ended up being the impetus for Luke's venture into matcha. Living in Japan has enabled Luke to establish partnerships with Japanese matcha experts. This Gokō × Samidori matcha is a hand-picked, first-spring harvest from a single Edo-period family estate in Sumiyama, Uji. The tea garden is shaded before harvest, then only the most tender leaves are taken by hand and carefully processed into tencha before being stone-milled in Kyoto in very small batches.

Gokō lends a plush, creamy sweetness and depth, while Samidori contributes luminous colour and a refined, savoury umami. The result is a ceremonial-grade matcha with remarkable smoothness, a dense, velvety foam, and a clean finish that feels composed rather than bitter.

Part of our Signature Uji Series, this 30 g tin is designed for thoughtful tea sessions, quiet morning rituals, and moments when you want to experience Uji at its most elegant.
