We are excited to be collecting expressions of interest for SDA vacancies in Heidelberg West. We have vacancies in two 2-bedroom homes and our goal is to ensure that participants are comfortable with their housemates so are commencing the matching/introduction process.

The homes are four minutes from Northland and nine minutes to the Austin, built to both robust and High Physical standards.

We are proud of our commitment to trauma informed care, keeping participants connected to the community and supporting them with complex medical and disability needs as they transition across life stages.

Matching participants in shared living arrangements is key to great participant outcomes.

With strong interest in our Heidelberg SDA program, participant matching is a hot topic of conversation in the office and the subject of our latest blog.

We believe strongly in getting the right match and are proud of our careful approach to participant matching and letting both current and prospective participants exercise choice and control over who they live with. Despite a funding model which can encourage providers to "take everyone" we have always focussed on longer term participant success rather than short term revenue.

We are proud to introduce our newest team member Tim Carmichael. Tim has been with us for a few weeks now and brings 20 years in disability service leadership and a wealth of compassion and understanding for people with disability. Tim is the first point of contact for our participants and care workforce to ensure the care delivered meets people's needs.

Tim's proudest achievements prior to joining Via Care have been his success in developing care plans to eliminate the need for restrictive practices in a range of group home settings both in state-run and NDIS systems.

We are shocked to hear the news of Annecto ceasing NDIS operations and our hearts go out to all the impacted participants, families and staff.

Via Care can assist any impacted participants to maintain continuity of service and can work to accommodate established care teams already working with participants.

Annecto has a long history and one their current and past leadership and community can be proud of.

Annecto, which employs about 1,000 people and has 4,400 clients on its books, has announced it will close next month.

Heidelberg West SIL/SDA Expressions of Interest Now Open.

We are excited to share the first look at a new SDA property nearing completion in the heart of Heidelberg West. Landscaping is underway with completion due in June. We are working with Equal Access to take expressions of interest now.

As a currently vacant property we are focused on strong matching between housemates and can accommodate people looking to move in as either single tenants or as a pair of residents.

Located in Heidelberg West and a 4 minute drive from Northland, this property includes a two bedroom unit and a two bedroom villa. Each are built to high physical support standard with attached OOA, backup power and the villa bedrooms each have a private courtyard.

Home features include fully accessible ensuite and bathroom attached to each bedroom, high accessible design throughout including kitchens and living areas designed to maximise opportunities to participate in cooking.

Some wonderful news to see the release of national FASD clinical guidelines. FASD is a particularly complex disability with profound impact if not caught early. All too often people living with FASD miss life-changing early diagnosis and intervention, in part due to stigma and parental shame. Reducing stigma is a long term goal to drive early intervention and these guidelines will hopefully support children get the support they need early.

There are concerns many young people with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder in Australia are falling through the cracks because of a lack of diagnostic and support services.

Great to see a spotlight put on the younger carers out there who are doing the hard yards to ensure loved ones including parents and siblings have the support they need. We are constantly amazed by the work of the younger carers who drive the support for family members and strive to give them the space to meet their own developmental needs amongst these responsibilities.

There are more than 390,000 carers under 25 in Australia, but their work often goes unnoticed, and advocates say more support is needed.

Family violence, child protection, and mental health services are more likely to interact with families who need NDIS support. At Via Care we have supported many families navigating these systems, yet these services can be siloed, making coordination tough.
