I am thrilled to learn that a new air security policy has recently been introduced to allow people with non-visible disabilities to keep their assistive technology with them as they are being screened.
This new policy will make air travel a more accessible and less stressful experience for people with non-visible disabilities such as autism as we no longer have to part with the very items that we need to cope in this extremely overwhelming environment.
You can learn more about this exciting new policy on the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs website: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/about-us/what-we-do/travelsecure/people-with-special-circumstances
I welcome this new policy as it is a step in the right direction in making air travel more accessible; however, there is still a long way to go before air travel is fully accessible for people with disabilities.
I look forward to seeing more changes in the near future that will make airports and planes accessible for all.
