These stories literally light me up! For me, age is such an irrelevant factor when it comes to so many things, especially pursuing goals.

Sometimes when I suggest things to people I work with, there’s a look of disbelief, like it’s too late or unrealistic at their age. My response is usually simple: why not?

So, meet Roger. He’s 85 & just graduated with a degree in philosophy after a journey that included a stroke and losing his ability to speak. Through it all, he kept going.

When in doubt or tempted to give in, listen to Roger: “Don’t give up. It can be a hard road, but don’t let age stop you.” 👏 👏 👏

Congrats Roger!

A long time ago I came across a now somewhat popular meme that describes seeing a person at a coffee shop with no smartphone, tablet, or laptop, just sitting there drinking coffee like a psychopath… 😆 it stuck with me.

Somewhere along the way, we decided every gap needs to be filled.

But boredom is often where imagination, creativity & calm sneak back in. Sometimes even moments of clarity. When we let our mind “just be” it’s amazing what it can do for us - including settling our nervous system, showing us new insights or bringing to our attention what really matters.

Practicing boredom really isn’t that boring

Thanks for the reminder

A New Year Theme 🥳

As the calendar flips to a new year, many of us feel the pull to set resolutions; a time-honoured tradition filled with hope and ambition. But as you’ve probably learned, the likely success of sticking to our resolutions often expires by the time February rolls around.

…So, what if we approached this year differently? Instead of rigid resolutions, try setting themes—broad, flexible ideas that guide your choices and inspire growth.

Themes focus on who you want to be rather than a list of things to achieve.

A RELAXATION SPACE

Do you have one?

Whilst not everyone has the ocean at their doorstep (lucky if you do 😌), or some other beautiful landscape, we can still create a calming space that helps us to rest, recharge and reset.

It’s all about creating a spot where you can feel at ease, peaceful, safe and disconnected from the usual stressors.

Here are a few suggestions to help you craft your own calming retreat, regardless of the space you have available. The more you use your space to relax, the more effective this will become.

Also check out the resources in my Relaxation Space page (link in bio).

Enjoy ☺️

It's only natural to have worries from time to time. But what if we told you that a bit of worrying can be a positive force in your life? It's all about learning to "worry well."

You can turn worries into opportunities for growth, change and resilience. It's okay to worry, as long as you do it well!

💡Take a look at this post to discover how💡

Remember, worrying is a part of life, but it doesn't have to consume us. Do you experience "sleep worry" when your head hits the pillow? Or when you wake in the middle of the night?

⏰ Sleep Worry = Worry about the consequences of not getting adequate sleep.

When you worry about your sleep, you may get pretty frustrated, start to feel tense, and notice that you are feeling really awake.

This is a tricky situation because it makes sense that you feel frustrated, but at the same time, this frustration only increases your arousal, making it harder to sleep.

When you feel this way, it’s common to increase your sleep effort. In other words, you begin a mental battle with sleep.

⏰ But, fighting sleep is futile.

⏰ So, what can you do?

⏰ It can be helpful to try to shift your mindset about not sleeping

⏰ Try to coach yourself through it.

This post offers some helpful statements to remember....

Take care 💛

Week 3 of Workplace Wellbeing Webinar was definitely one NOT to miss!

It covered a dimension of underwork and overwork that is not often discussed. As such, the health risks and implications of boreout (a syndrome caused by chronic boredom) were emphasised along with those from burnout.

I also discovered that australia could do better when it comes to our burnout statistics and how IMPORTANT it is to take mini-breaks between meetings (see pic!). Our brain needs it 🧠

Thank you Wayahead - Mental Health Association NSW for hosting and the team from The Opus Centre for Psychosocial Risk for your fantastic presentation 👏

You can catch up on the recording via YouTube.
