Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is one of the leading causes of skin cancers. Consistent use of a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen is essential—not only for long-term skin health but also for maintaining the outcomes of surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Otoplasty, or ear pinning surgery, is a surgical procedure that aims to make the ears appear less prominent through reshaping and / or repositioning.

By the age of 5 or 6, our ears have reached about 80% of their final size. Ear surgery can be performed from this age onwards.

All procedures have risks to consider. These will be discussed in detail during a consultation. Not everyone is suitable for this procedure.

With the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, Mr Dean White is only able to treat trauma, essential or emergency patients.

For all new patients, please bear with Mr White and his team for all consultations until further notice on lockdown. This means your appointment with Mr White may be held over the phone or a video conference rather than in-person.

Q: What does a scrub nurse do during surgery?

A: Scrub nurses conduct a surgical scrub before surgery, and then enter the surgical theatre to set up the operating area for the patient, ensure all hand tools are sterile and help perform other hands-on tasks during the surgery.

Q: Is 74 (or, more specifically, mid-50s and above) too old for a breast reduction?

A: There are no guidelines or rules for when you may be too old to consider a breast reduction. Every patient is assessed individually and suitability for the procedure is assessed on a patient-by-patient basis.
Many factors, including medical history, medication and desired outcomes are taken into consideration when making this decision.

Q. Why do patients remove breast implants?

A. For patients who’ve undergone breast augmentation, breast implant removal surgery can be undertaken for a number of reasons. Some include; changing or lifestyle preferences, to replace the implants, for health concerns or complications, risks associated with breast implant illness or BIA-ALCL.

BIA-ALCL (Breast Implant Associated-Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma) is a very rare form of cancer derived from breast implants. Symptoms include breast swelling, lumps or changes in breast shape, and it can be treated by having the breast implants removed.

If you are doing regular check-ups and cancer checks, there is no need to be deeply concerned about developing BIA-ALCL. This form of cancer is extremely rare and only affects those who have textured breast implants.
