As we wrap up our February theme ValenSpine 💕and learn to love our spine, it is important to remember that spinal health is not just about posture. It is about our nervous system too.

Our spine protects the spinal cord, the communication highway between the brain and body. When posture is poor, movement is limited, or stress is high, the body can shift into a protective state. Muscles tighten. Breathing becomes shallow. Heart rate increases. Over time, this may influence sleep, focus, digestion, and overall wellbeing.

Supportive spinal care and healthy movement habits help send signals of safety to the nervous system. When the body feels supported, it is more likely to shift into a relaxed and regulated state.

Here are simple ways to show our nervous system some love:

♡ Align posture
Stack ears over shoulders and ribs over pelvis. Reducing forward head posture decreases strain on cervical muscles and may reduce tension-related headaches.

♡ Breathe with intention
Slow nasal inhale (4 seconds), longer exhale (6–8 seconds). Research shows extended exhales stimulate the vagus nerve, helping lower heart rate and promote relaxation.

♡ Move regularly
Standing, stretching, and gentle mobility every 30 to 60 minutes improves circulation and reduces sustained muscle tension.

♡ Seek supportive care
Spinal assessments and targeted chiropractic care can help optimise joint function, reduce mechanical stress, and support clearer communication between brain and body.

When the nervous system feels safe, the body can move from survival mode toward recovery and restoration.

Loving our spine is one of the simplest ways to support our whole system 💞

You don’t need an hour-long workout to protect your spine.

Small daily resets can reduce mechanical stress, improve nervous system function, and prevent long-term strain.

Research shows that prolonged sitting increases spinal disc pressure and reduces circulation to postural muscles. Even brief posture corrections and movement breaks can improve muscle activation and decrease stiffness.

Try this 30-second spinal reset today:

💙 10 seconds – Stack & Align
Sit or stand tall. Gently draw your chin back, stack ears over shoulders, and lengthen through the crown of your head (imagine a balloon above your head). This reduces forward head load on the cervical spine.

💙 10 seconds – 360° Brace + Breathe
Exhale slowly, bring your ribcage down toward your pelvis, and lightly engage your deep core. Diaphragmatic breathing helps regulate stress hormones and improve trunk stability.

💙 10 seconds – Move It
Roll your shoulders back, unlock your knees, or stand up and extend gently. Movement restores joint lubrication and improves circulation to spinal tissues.

That’s it. 3️⃣0️⃣seconds.
Done consistently, these small resets help maintain posture, reduce fatigue, and support long-term spinal health.

Because loving your spine doesn’t have to be complicated; it just has to be consistent 💙

Valentine’s Day may be over, but caring for each other is a long-term commitment. One simple way to care for your partner? Check their posture (and let them check yours).

Posture influences more than appearance — it affects energy, breathing, and even stress levels. Standing or sitting upright may help reduce cortisol and maintain better energy throughout the day. On the other hand, “tech neck” can strain the spine and restrict lung capacity, leaving your partner feeling fatigued and less present.

Next time you’re sitting together on the couch, working at your desks, or walking side by side, do a quick ValenSpine check:

♡ Forward Head Check: Is their head drifting forward while scrolling? Every inch forward adds extra pressure to the neck.

♡ Shoulder Check: Are their shoulders rounding in? This can contribute to tension and shallow breathing.

♡ Level Check: Are they leaning more to one side? Uneven sitting can place imbalanced stress on the pelvis and spine.

Healthy habits are easier to maintain when you practice them together. Small daily corrections can lead to long-term change; and chiropractic care can further support spinal alignment and nervous system function, helping you both move with greater ease.

Because the best kind of love is the kind that supports you for life 💗

Strong abs aren’t the whole story 💡
When it comes to protecting your spine, core endurance often matters more than core strength.

Core strength is about how much force your core muscles can produce; while core endurance is about how long those muscles can support your spine during everyday life like sitting, standing, walking, and lifting.

Why we need better endurance 👇
✔️ Endurance supports posture throughout the day
✔️ Endurance helps protect the spine during repetitive movements
✔️ Endurance creates the foundation for safe, effective strength

If your core can’t stay switched on for daily activities, even a “strong” core may still leave your spine vulnerable to strain and fatigue.

Chiropractic care supports core activation by improving spinal alignment, joint mobility, and nervous system communication. When the spine moves well, the nervous system can effectively signal the deep core muscles to activate on time and maintain support during daily movement. This helps reduce compensation patterns, improve posture and balance, and protect the spine from unnecessary strain, allowing the body to move more efficiently and comfortably in everyday life.

That’s why we focus on proper core activation and endurance in our upcoming Core Activation Workshop. Learn how to engage your core the right way, build lasting support for your spine, and apply it to real-life movement.

Posture is a love language.
And your spine feels every message you send it. 💌

Posture is a window into your spinal health and nervous system function. Your alignment reflects how well your brain and body are communicating—quietly, constantly, and in real time.

The way you sit, stand, and move each day either supports your system or slowly overloads it. Small postural habits add up—but so do small, intentional corrections.

Posture isn’t about “standing up straight.”
It’s about optimising nervous system function, improving movement efficiency, and reducing unnecessary stress on your joints.

Your body is always listening.
What are you telling it today?

Here are 5️⃣ways to stop the "heartbreak" of poor alignment ❤️‍🩹:

✧ The Forward Lean: Head jutting strains the suboccipital muscles.
→ Perform "chin tucks" to stack your ears over your shoulders. (Check out our exercise video pinned on top ⬆️)

✧ The Heart Guard: Slouched shoulders can restrict lung capacity.
→ Open your chest and retract your scapulae (shoulder blades) down and back.

✧ Locked Connections: Locking knees cuts off efficient blood flow and strains the low back.
→ Maintain a "soft" knee to engage your postural stabilisers.

✧ The Lumbar Collapse: Sitting into your lower back puts uneven pressure on your spinal discs.
→ Engage your deep core (transverse abdominis) to find a neutral pelvis.

✧ Suffocating the System: Shallow breathing triggers the "fight or flight" response.
→ Diaphragmatic breathing lowers cortisol and relaxes tight muscles.

This Valentine’s season, show your spine some love — it’s the backbone of everything you do. 💙

Ever heard the cue “Brace like you’re about to get punched”? 👊
That’s core activation, done right. ✅

Your core isn’t just your abs. It’s a 360° support system that wraps around your spine like a soda can. When you brace properly, you gently exhale, bring the ribcage down toward the belly button, and create tension through the front, sides, and back of your trunk. This builds stability through the pelvis and lower back before movement even begins.

When your core activates correctly, everyday movements feel stronger, safer, and more controlled. Lifting, sitting, walking, and even breathing become more efficient.

Don’t want to keep “getting punched” by poor movement patterns?

03/02/2026

Ever feel a little unsteady on your feet, even without an obvious injury?

Balance isn’t just about strong legs or good coordination. True balance starts with your core. Before your arms or legs move, the deep core muscles should activate to stabilise the spine and centre of the body. When this doesn’t happen effectively, the body struggles to stay upright and controlled, and balance naturally declines.

Balance depends on clear communication between the nervous system and the core muscles. If this activation is delayed or inconsistent, everyday movements like walking, changing direction, or standing on one leg can start to feel harder than they should.

❌ Without proper core activation:
→ The spine becomes less stable
→ The body relies on compensation patterns
→ Reaction time slows
→ The risk of strain or falls increases

Chiropractic care supports balance by improving spinal alignment, joint mobility, and nervous system communication. When the spine moves well and the nervous system functions optimally, the core can activate at the right time, helping the body stay stable, confident, and controlled in movement.

✨ Want to improve your balance from the inside out?
Join our free Core Activation Workshop to learn how balance and core control work together, and how to train them in everyday life.

When we talk about core activation, we’re not just talking about abs 💡

Your core is a deep support system designed to stabilise your spine before you move — whether you’re lifting your kids, sitting at your desk, walking, or getting out of the car.

When the core doesn’t activate properly, other areas step in to compensate — often the lower back, hips, or shoulders. Over time, this can lead to stiffness, fatigue, and recurring aches, even during everyday activities.

A well-activated core helps:
✔️ Protect the spine during daily movements
✔️ Improve posture and balance
✔️ Reduce strain on the lower back
✔️ Make movement feel lighter, smoother, and more controlled

Chiropractic care plays an important role in supporting proper core activation by improving spinal alignment, joint mobility, and nervous system function. When the spine moves well and the nervous system communicates clearly with the muscles, the core can switch on at the right time — before movement begins. This reduces compensation patterns and helps your body move with confidence and control.

Want to learn how to activate your core the right way?
✨ Join our Core Activation Workshop and take away practical strategies you can use in everyday life.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:
✧ What your core actually is (hint: it’s more than abs)
✧ How to activate it correctly during daily activities
✧ Simple techniques you can apply immediately
