As we have already touched on this week there are many ways to move our bodies and stay active.

Exercising doesn’t have to mean attending a gym. With an Exercise Physiologist’s guidance you can exercise safely from the comfort of your own home or even in a hydrotherapy pool. If this doesn’t sound like it suits you, that’s okay. There are many other ways you can exercise in the local community for free! Activities can differ from group exercises classes, to exercising individually. You just have to find the style of exercise that suits you.

Remember moving just 30 minutes a day will reduce your risk of chronic injury, cardiovascular disease or suffering from depression or anxiety.

As Exercise Right week continues into Day 4, today we have Charlotte showcasing how she gets her 30 minutes of movement each day! Charlotte initially attended Exercise Physiology for assistance in managing her chronic low back pain and increasing her exercise levels throughout the week! Charlotte now attends a gym based session each week with Exercise Physiologist Caitlin and has been so consistent with her sessions, making great improvements! Charlotte particularly enjoys the ways in which an Exercise Physiologist can provide exercise modifications specific to each individual for safe enjoyment of exercise as seen with these Kettlebell Deadlifts! Charlotte now gets her 30 minutes of movement each day through a combination of walking, gym based Exercise Physiology sessions and her Exercise Physiology prescribed home exercise program! In clinic and home based Exercise Physiology sessions is just one way to get your 30 minutes of movement each day, stay tuned for the rest of the week to see how else you can achieve this!

Meet Ross, a lively 74-year-old who enjoys an active lifestyle. Twice a week, Ross delves into Exercise Physiology sessions, centering his efforts on enhancing his cardiorespiratory fitness through brisk treadmill walks. On the remaining days, he embarks on leisurely strolls with his dog, Maggie, exploring the scenic trails of his local parks and neighborhood.

Regularly walking for just 30 minutes each day stands as one of the best strategies for enhancing your overall health and well-being. This simple habit can significantly boost your cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness levels, concurrently mitigating the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cognitive impairments and dementia. It can also yield great benefits such as improving your mental well-being, sleep, and longevity.

Just moving for 30 minutes a day can make a world of difference to your health and well-being!

One of our client’s Tony enjoys to move his body each week using a Pilates reformer with one of our Exercise Physiologist’s Dana. Tony says he loves doing Pilates as it enables him to build the strength in his shoulders, legs and core to prevent any injuries when he is participating in Para Ice Hockey. Tony says he also loves Pilates as there is a cardiovascular element when completing it, which is great for his heart health and to manage his weight! When Tony isn’t on the reformer, he goes for regular pushes in his wheelchair around his neighbourhood, plays Para Ice Hockey and goes to the gym to take care of his physical and mental health ✨

This week we celebrate Exercise Right Week, an annual awareness initiative in its 10th year aiming to highlight the benefits of exercise for your health and well-being.

This year the theme is “Just Move”. Participating in daily physical activity can be so beneficial to your physical, mental and social health. It can also be incredibly beneficial for longer term health such as preventing chronic disease and reducing your risk of falling.

Our Exercise Physiologist can assist you with your movement journey. Whether you’re just looking for some guidance to start, how to take it to the next level, finding alternatives to your current program or wanting to complete that next fun run.
