Every day, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) keeps patients, staff and doctors safe, across our hospitals.

Infection prevention is an important responsibility, and with clinical leaders like Lizzie, IPAC Clinical Nurse Consultant at Epworth Eastern, this vital work makes a lasting impact on how we care for our patients and each other.

We recognise the essential work of our IPAC team across Epworth to reduce risk and keep everyone safe.

Allied Health Professions Day at Epworth! 💙

Today we’re celebrating the passionate and skilled people who make up our allied health teams - our social workers, dietitians, physios, exercise physiologists, allied health assistants, speech pathologists, sleep scientists, OTs and psychologists.

This year’s theme, Stronger Together, is a reminder of the impact that collaboration has on patient care. Our allied health professionals work together to help people rebuild strength, restore confidence and find new ways to live well.

Thank you for the compassion, expertise and heart you bring to patients. You make a difference, every single day.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

We asked our Epworth Clinic mental health nurses: What does good mental health look like in everyday life? These were some of their answers.

“Being present and engaged in what matters most – loved ones, hobbies, work.”
“Feeling balanced, purposeful and connected.”
“It’s unique to each person. Nurture it through safe connections, mindfulness, sleep, and nutrition.”

Let’s prioritise mental wellbeing – today and every day.

New national pancreatic cancer screening program 💜🌠

Meet Amanda Mundy, from Victoria’s Gippsland region, who tragically lost both her father and uncle to pancreatic cancer. She is acutely aware of her genetic risk of the “brutal illness”.

That’s why she has joined a new national screening program established by the Jreissati Pancreatic Centre at Epworth and Pankind, to improve early detection and save lives.

“For someone with two family members who have had pancreatic cancer and knowing the statistics, it weighs on your mind, particularly as a parent. Screening can alleviate some of that anxiety,” Amanda said.

This program will establish a nationwide registry for people at high risk of developing pancreatic cancer and enable Australia to join a global research effort into the disease.

“Currently a pancreatic cancer diagnosis can be pretty grim. What we are doing now through the screening study is not only important for us but has the potential to change outcomes for the next generation,” Amanda said.

The Australian Pancreatic Cancer High-Risk Screening (APRISE) program is open for nationwide recruitment.
