Based on over twenty years of research, Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO DBT) is a breakthrough, transdiagnostic approach for helping people suffering from extremely difficult-to-treat disorders of emotional overcontrol (OC), such as anorexia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and treatment-resistant depression. Written by the treatment developer founder of RO DBT, Dr. Thomas Lynch, this comprehensive volume outlines the core theories and principles of RO DBT, and provides a framework for implementing RO DBT in individual therapy.

Q: What is overcontrol?
A: Overcontrol (OC) refers to an excessive or maladaptive level of self-control that can lead to chronic mental health issues. It's when the natural ability to inhibit impulses and delay gratification, which is typically seen as beneficial, becomes so overpowering that it starts to negatively impact a person's life.

Australian DBT Institute

The Australian DBT Institute is a specialist service of the Centre for Mental Health Education providing leadership in the delivery of DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), mindfulness based approaches and modified DBT programs. Each year the institute develops mental health professionals throughout Australia and South East Asia in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Our DBT workshops include one day workshops (foundations, skills, individual therapy, AOD populations & youth), four day retreats (Far North Queensland & Thailand) and our twelve month comprehensive training in DBT (Melbourne & Sydney). Each year the Australian DBT Institute is also contracted by individual workplaces to develop their own DBT programs and educate staff onsite. The Australian DBT Institute is also running our trauma informed approach to DBT group programs in Melbourne.

Australian DBT Institute works with partner organisations, including our premier partner Essentia Health, to provide accredited programs that meet the therapeutic needs of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder traits in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Our accredited partners employ staff trained in the application of DBT and participate in research activities at the Australian DBT Institute.

Should you seek training or to develop a DBT service in your organisation please contact Dianne on 0426 792 107 or email dianne@cmhe.com.au.
