Fueling a Healthier Heart 🥗❤️

When we think about heart health, we often think about the treadmill—but what’s on your plate is just as vital.

For Heart Health Week, we’re shining a light on how Dietetics plays a foundational role in cardiovascular wellness. It’s about more than just "eating well"; it’s about using nutrition as a clinical tool to:

♦ Reduce Inflammation: Shifting toward antioxidant-rich foods that protect your blood vessels.

♦ Support Heart Function: Optimizing nutrient intake to help manage blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

♦ Adopt "Heart-Smart" Patterns: We often recommend Mediterranean-style eating—focusing on healthy fats (like olive oil and nuts), lean proteins, and a rainbow of vegetables—because it is backed by years of clinical research.

At Brighton Spine and Sports Clinic, our Dietitian Amy Peng works alongside our medical team to ensure your nutrition supports your physical rehabilitation and overall longevity. No fad diets—just sustainable, science-based plans tailored to your lifestyle.

Take control of your cardiovascular health from the inside out.

Managing Your Heart Health Through Movement ❤️

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools we have for heart health—but knowing where to start can be daunting, especially if you are managing high blood pressure or cholesterol.

This Heart Health Week, we’re highlighting the vital role of our Exercise Physiologists (EPs). Unlike a standard gym program, an EP-designed routine is a clinical intervention. They specialize in "Exercise Medicine," creating safe, heart-friendly programs that focus on:

🔵 Blood Pressure Management: Targeted aerobic and resistance training to improve vascular health.

🔵 Cholesterol Control: Specific movement intensities that help improve your lipid profile.

🔵 Safe Progression: Monitoring your heart’s response to ensure you’re working at an intensity that is effective but entirely safe for your specific condition.

Whether you are recovering from a cardiac event or looking to prevent one, our clinicians utilize our dedicated Rehabilitation Gym to guide you through every rep with confidence.

Ready to take the first step?
Book an initial assessment with our Exercise Physiologist, Helen, to kickstart a heart-healthy routine tailored specifically to you.

Is your desk stealing your hip mobility?

If you stand up after a few hours of work and feel "rusty" or stiff, you aren't alone. In fact, nearly 47% of employed Australian adults spend most of their workday sitting.

Long stretches in a chair can actually change how your hips, ankles, and spine work together. We use the Deep Squat Test as a "systems check" to see how well your body shares the load.

A clean squat requires:
đź”·Hip mobility
đź”·Ankle bend
đź”·Upper back extension
đź”·Trunk control

When one area is tight, another "cheats," leading to lifted heels or a falling chest.

Check out our latest blog (link in bio) to learn how to perform this 1-minute test at home and try our 3-minute office reset to get those hips moving again.

It's Osteopathy Awareness Month!

This April, we're celebrating the incredible work our Osteopaths do every day at Brighton Spine & Sports Clinic. Osteopathy is about more than just treating a "sore back" - it's a holistic approach that looks at how your skeleton, muscles, and lifestyle all connect to keep you moving.

A HUGE thank you to our dedicated team - Kate, Brian and Uriel - for their expertise, care, and commitment to helping our Bayside community live pain-free.

Whether you're managing chronic pain or recovering from a sports injury, our Osteos are here to help you find the root cause, not just treat the symptoms.

"Get stronger" is great advice—but a "proper plan" is what actually gets results.

If you’ve been told to start strength training but don't know your dead-lift from your squat (or you're worried about making an old injury worse), we’re here to help. Our Exercise Physiologists specialize in turning vague advice into a clear, manageable road-map.

No more "missing steps." Just expert guidance in a supportive environment.

Have you noticed the stairs feeling a little steeper lately? Or maybe carrying the shopping bags feels like a two-trip job?

Our new blog, "Beyond the Bone," explores why maintaining muscle mass is the secret to keeping your world "wide" and full of the activities you love—from gardening to keeping up with the grandkids.

Ready to turn knowledge into action? Our Exercise Physiology team is here to help make strength work safe and practical for you.
