Walking is the foundation, but resistance is the insurance.

It’s a common trap: focusing solely on the scale while forgetting what’s under the skin. As the quote says, bones and muscles need load to stay strong. When you lose weight quickly, your body looks for energy everywhere—don't let it "eat" your strength.

If you want to keep the muscle you have, you have to give it a reason to stay. Pick up something heavy today!

Are you taking Ozempic or Mounjaro… but NOT lifting weights?

We need to talk.

The rise of GLP-1 medications has been life-changing for many, but there is a missing piece of the conversation: Muscle Loss. When you lose weight rapidly, your body doesn't just burn fat—it can strip away your muscle and bone density, too. This is especially critical for women in perimenopause and menopause!

Strength training isn’t about bodybuilding; it’s about:
✅ Protecting your metabolism
✅ Maintaining independence
✅ Keeping your bones strong

The Gut-Body Connection: It’s more than just a "gut feeling."

If your gut is inflamed, your nervous system is on high alert. This can lead to:
1️⃣ Increased pain sensitivity in your joints/back.
2️⃣ Poor recovery after exercise.
3️⃣ Brain fog and fatigue.

At BSSC, we look at the body as a whole. While our Dietitian, Amy, works with you on the internal chemistry—managing inflammation, IBS, and nutrient absorption—our Osteopaths focus on the physical environment those organs live in.

It’s a 360-degree approach to your health, right here in Brighton.

At Brighton Spinal, we believe food is more than just fuel—it’s connection, culture, and joy. When we view food through the lens of restriction, we create stress. When we view it through the lens of nourishment and balance, we create health that actually lasts.

Whether it’s a post-workout meal or a piece of cake with a friend, it all has a place in a healthy lifestyle.

Looking for a sustainable approach to your nutrition? Our dietitian Amy is here to help you find a plan that feels good for your body and your lifestyle. Find link in our bio to book your appointment!

There’s nothing quite like a crisp morning walk at the Brighton foreshore. But have you noticed the "spark" in your step isn't quite what it was?

We often chalk up a loss of energy to "getting older," but true vitality comes from supporting our changing physiology. If you’re a woman over 50, your body has new requirements to keep you moving at your best:

1️⃣ Muscle is your "Metabolic Currency": To keep walking the foreshore for decades to come, we need to focus on muscle retention. That means hitting your protein targets daily to repair and maintain the strength you’ve worked so hard for.

2️⃣ Fuel the Fire: Iron levels play a massive role in our daily stamina. When your levels are optimal, your blood is efficiently oxygenating your body, leaving you feeling bright, alert, and ready for the day.

It’s not about weight loss—it’s about strength and spirit.

Our Dietitian, Amy Peng, specializes in helping women navigate these exact shifts. Whether it’s optimizing your iron intake or fine-tuning your protein for muscle health, Amy provides the expert, personalized guidance you need to feel vibrant again.

Chronic headaches and jaw pain are common — but they’re also often overlooked.

For many people, symptoms such as ongoing headaches, facial tension or jaw discomfort are linked to issues in the neck, upper back, jaw (TMJ) and surrounding muscles — not just what’s happening inside the head.

Osteopathy focuses on how the body’s structure affects function.
In the management of headaches and jaw pain, osteopathic treatment may help by:

• improving movement in the neck and upper spine
• reducing muscle tension through the jaw, face and shoulders
• addressing postural and workload-related strain
• supporting the function of the jaw joint (TMJ)

While osteopathy does not replace medical care, it can be a valuable part of a multidisciplinary approach — particularly for people experiencing persistent or recurring symptoms.

If headaches or jaw pain are becoming part of your “normal”, it may be time to look beyond symptom relief and explore what’s driving the problem.

Our osteopaths at Brighton Spine & Sports Clinic work closely with our wider allied health team to support long-term outcomes — not just short-term fixes.

At Brighton Spinal, our Osteopaths look at the 'Big Picture'.

Osteopaths don’t just treat the spot where it hurts; they look at how your whole body moves as a single unit. If you come in with knee pain, Osteo's aren't just looking at the joint—they’re assessing your ankle, hip, and back to ensure no underlying issues are being missed.

Comprehensive care means looking beyond the symptoms to find the cause.
