Many people think therapy starts with techniques, worksheets, or strategies...
It doesn’t!
Therapy starts with connection.
If you don’t feel truly seen, safe, and understood by your therapist, nothing else will work. For neurodivergent children, adults, and families, this connection isn’t just helpful, it is essential.
A neurodivergent-affirming therapist, especially one with lived experience, understands the world the way you experience it. They don’t see Autism or ADHD as a problem to fix. They understand meltdowns as moments of overwhelm, not misbehaviour. They adjust communication, reduce sensory stress, avoid compliance-based practices, and shape goals around what actually matters to you.
When that connection is there, something shifts. Trust grows. Honesty becomes easier.
You feel safe enough to talk, explore, and try new things without fear of judgment.
Research shows that the relationship between you and your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes. It matters more than any model, technique, or tool.
This is the heart of the work at DivergAntz , building relationships where neurodivergent people and families feel respected, understood, and empowered!
