ACL REHAB

Great to see Brendan back competing hard at recently 12 mths after acl reconstruction surgery.

It's been a big year of rehab but creating a knee that can compete with confidence is the reward for his hard work.

I really do love the journey of acl rehab. From surgery to sport, crutches to comeback!

Building towards a return to rugby league.

ACL rehab isn’t just the knee… it’s the whole chain. 🔗🦵

If the foot and ankle can’t stabilise, absorb force, and produce power, the knee will always be exposed to greatest forces than necessary and placed at risk.

That’s why we train the chain from the ground up:
🦶 strong feet
🦵 powerful calves
⚡️ reactive stiffness + plyometrics
🎯 single leg control and landing mechanics

Because every cut, jump, and deceleration starts at the foot.
Strong feet = strong athlete.

Don’t skip what connects you to the ground.

RETURN TO RUNNING 🏃‍♂️🔥 (Non-surgical ACL comeback)

On July 1st 2026, this guy suffered a nasty basketball injury:
✅ Complete ACL rupture
✅ Grade 2 MCL injury

Most people assume that means surgery is the only option…

But he chose a non-surgical pathway, supported by structured rehab and regular PRP injections.

Fast forward to now — his follow-up MRI shows union/healing of the ACL, and last Thursday he hit a huge milestone…

➡️ Return to running.

This is a reminder that while the pathway can look different, the goal is always the same:
restore strength, rebuild confidence, and return to sport safely.

Non-surgical doesn’t mean “do nothing”.
It means doing the work — consistently, patiently, and intelligently.

Proud of the effort behind this one. The comeback is underway 💪

6 weeks post-op ➝ 6 months post-op.

From first steps out of the brace…
to full sprinting again.

This is what rehab really looks like:
slow, repetitive, frustrating at times… but the basics matter.

✅ gait re-training
✅ confidence rebuilding
✅ strength + control
✅ consistent progress over time

The comeback isn’t one big moment.
It’s thousands of small ones done right.

Trust the process. Earn the sprint. 🏃‍♂️🔥

ACL rehab

It's amazing how quickly progress is made when you're following a good early phase acl rehab plan.
bond_ has been patient to reset the knee and now his knee is ready to be reloaded in the gym.

If you're struggling with early stage acl rehab send a message and I can help 🤜🏻

First run in the books for .barber 6 mths following acl reconstruction surgery.

This one means a lot.

She didn’t take the easy road.
A quad tendon graft — one of the toughest grafts to rehab. Slower early progress, more quad inhibition, and a real mental test.

But there’s a reason we choose it…
👉 Strong graft
👉 Great option for young female athletes
👉 Built for long-term knee resilience

Her journey wasn’t linear either.
At 3 months, she required a manipulation under anaesthetic (MUA) — a setback that can shake confidence and momentum.

But she stayed in it.
Trusted the process.
Kept showing up.

Now this moment — her first run — isn’t just about jogging.
It’s about restoring power, confidence, and belief in her body again.

This is what ACL rehab really looks like:
Not perfect. Not smooth. But worth it.

Big things ahead 🔥

ACL REHAB Case Study

Last week I started working with .bond_.

He was 6 weeks post surgery (acl reco w/ HS graft + meniscus repair).

Big changes in a week after proper load management of the knee using crutches and decreasing step count. Plenty elevation of address the swelling and heaps of quad activation work.

Big difference after a week of doing the right work in early rehab.

Check the video out to see.

ACL Rehab

If you're recovering from acl surgery you should be aiming to achieve a heel pop on the surgical side as quickly as possible.

Watch this video for some examples of high quality heel pops from my acl clients.

ACL Surgery? Avoid These Early Rehab Mistakes

The first few weeks after ACL surgery aren’t about doing more.
They’re about resetting the knee to build a foundation the rest of the rehab builds on.

Here are 5 mistakes I see all the time in Phase 1:

❌ Pillow under the knee
Feels comfortable, but it encourages the knee to stay bent.
Early priority is getting the knee fully straight.

❌ Not elevating the leg high enough
If the knee lives down by your waist, swelling hangs around.
The leg should be elevated high to help fluid drain.

❌ Forcing range of motion exercises
Cranking the knee into bending when it’s swollen and irritated often backfires.
First goal: calm the knee down.

❌ Too many steps too soon
Early rehab isn’t about hitting step goals.
Too many steps can irritate the knee and slow recovery.
✅ Monitor your step count.

❌ Ditching the crutches too early
Coming off crutches before the quad is firing properly usually leads to limping and poor movement patterns.

One simple sign your quad is ready?

The heel pop.
When the quad contracts properly, the knee locks straight and the heel lifts slightly off the bed.
It’s a quick way to see if your Phase 1 foundations are solid.

Phase 1 goals:
• Quiet knee
• Full extension
• Quad firing
• Heel pop
• Normal walking

Get these right, and the rest of rehab becomes much easier.

Don’t just return to play.
Build a knee that can perform.
