This September, we're sharing to raise awareness of childhood cancer—specifically .

Emily. Funny, fiery, and full of life.

Forever 5.

She will live in our hearts forever.

💡 Neuroblastoma is often called “the great masquerader”. Because it mimics a range of common childhood illnesses, it is often missed or misdiagnosed. By the time it is caught, neuroblastoma has usually spread to other parts of the body. Neuroblastoma is a disease in disguise—we must expose it sooner.

💬 Awareness is the first step toward a cure— to quicken the pace.

🙏 Together, we can make neuroblastoma a thing of the past.

Mackenzie was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 2 weeks old. She is almost 2, in remission, and a happy and healthy little girl.

💡 The treatments for this type of childhood cancer are toxic and can cause lifelong effects, even if they successfully treat the disease.

💬 Awareness is the first step toward a cure— to quicken the pace.

🙏 Together, we can change the future for kids like Mackenzie.

This September, we're sharing to raise awareness of childhood cancer—specifically .

Hamish is 13 years old. He was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in February 2024. He will hopefully finish frontline treatment at the end of 2025 and then move on to DFMO maintenance therapy.

💡 While rare, neuroblastoma can affect older kids too, which has its own unique set of challenges, including being aware of the possible consequences of the disease and its treatments.

💬 Awareness is the first step toward a cure— to quicken the pace.

🙏 Together, we can change the future for kids like Hamish.

On Sunday, Neuroblastoma Australia is hosting their first charity walk in Brisbane to raise funds for vital research into neuroblastoma - a horrible and relentless disease that kills more children under 5 than any other cancer.

To remember Emily, and to honour her brave fight with neuroblastoma, we are walking 5 kilometres in Emily’s memory - a kilometre for every year she lived.

We would be honoured if you could help us remember our beautiful daughter by donating a few dollars to her team.

Love,
Emily’s Mum & Dad

🎄🧸 C H R I S T M A S T O Y D R I V E 🧸🎄

To honour Emily, and to keep her in our hearts, our family has engaged in a number of fundraising activities since her death. One such activity that brings us joy is organising a toy drive for the sick kids at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Last year, with the help of Kim and her team at Whisk & Grind, we collected over 1500 toys – enough to keep the toy cupboards stocked for the entire year. Emily always loved receiving a toy from the toy cupboard after a round of chemo, or a painful or scary procedure.

This Christmas, we are again collecting toys for Emily's Christmas Drive. Toys can be delivered to our family, or dropped off to Emily's tree at Whisk & Grind Cafe in Eatons Hill.

✨ Here are some donation ideas! ✨

To keep sick kids safe and to comply with hospital policy, the QCH can only accept brand new items that have been recently purchased.

🟥 This means the hospital cannot accept second-hand toys, items that contain button batteries, items with sharp edges, food, or knitted blankets.

🟩 Picture books, colouring books, art and craft activities, fidget toys, stuffed toys, dolls, board games, card games, Lego, building blocks, and Play-Doh are all great ideas!

🙏 Thank you for remembering Emily, and for helping us to bring comfort, joy, and healing to children who need it most at Christmas.

Safe indoor air is a human right and a responsibility that shouldn’t rest with the immunocompromised, especially when that person is a child. The Safer Shared Air report launched today in . Emily's Aunty, Kate Cantrell was there to help launch the report and to share Emily's story.

Child loss is often described as something you can’t “get over” or “recover” from, and this concept should never be trivialized. Bereaved parents carry their love for their child for a lifetime. Anniversaries of their child’s death, will likely always be a date to dread. Celebratory days like Christmas, birthdays, Mother’s and Father’s Days, and other once joyful occasions are forever altered.

They must learn to live alongside their grief, a process that can take years and is uniquely personal. This journey doesn’t mean forgetting; instead, it’s about finding a way to honor their child’s memory amidst the pain.

Let’s be sensitive and supportive, understanding that grief is a lifelong companion ❤️

So far, Emily's Team has raised $36,000 for childhood cancer research! 🎉🎉🎉

Until midnight tonight, all donations will be matched by corporate sponsors of the Great Cycle Challenge. This means:

🙏 if you donate $10, Team Emily will receive $20
🙏 if you donate $25, Team Emily will receive $50
🙏 if you donate $50, Team Emily will receive $100, etc etc etc!

Our goal is to raise $63,407—the highest amount ever raised in Australia.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, to those of you who continue to love and support us, and to those who always speak of Emily and continue to honour her, and remember her. Here's a photo of Emily's Mum and Dad, making all of us so proud.

My daughter Emily was four years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. She fought bravely and courageously, with love, humour, and determination. We often joked that she was dancing while cancering, because even during chemo, she would stand up on her hospital bed and dance. She loved to watch TikTok and mimic various moves. She also loved to ride her bike around Oncology, often challenging the other kids to race.

This October I’ve set myself the goal of cycling 100kms for Emily and raising $1000 for research into better, safer, and more effective treatments for children's cancer. As you know, it wasn't cancer that took our beautiful daughter; it was the brutal, dangerous, and outdated treatment that she endured—treatment that is designed for adults rather than tiny growing bodies.

Please help me honour Emily, her fight, and her fighting spirit by supporting all kids with cancer. A life should be long. Every child should have the chance to grow up. Kids with cancer deserve more than a cure. Emily deserved a future.

Every Australian child and young adult with high-risk neuroblastoma will have free access at Australian hospitals to a promising medicine not otherwise available in Australia, known as DFMO, thanks to funding from the Albanese Labor Government.
