MRI’s

Do you have pain, had an MRI scan and now have a “diagnosis” or an answer for your pain?

An MRI is a great tool to get answers to what is going on within your body but is not the be all and end all of your condition. What you do with that information and your perspective in life is key. The interpretation of the findings is part of the overall management plan.

Also, although an MRI scan may show something doesn’t necessarily mean that this is the cause of your pain because often many things can be pre-existing without symptoms.

Pains can get worse but also can improve despite things on MRIs not changing at all.

What’s the difference between a broken bone & a fracture?

Simply put - a fracture & a break mean exactly the same. Even though ‘a fracture’ can seem slightly weaker in meaning, it is in fact just as strong as ‘a break’ & they both can relate to the exact same state. People tend to consider a fractured bone a minor injury whereas a broken one is usually taken more seriously but this is not the case.

You shouldn’t necessarily associate ‘a break’ with a six-month-long cast period nor ‘a fracture’ with 3 days in bed. You should wait to hear the rest of the diagnosis before assuming too much.

Whether your diagnosis says you have a broken bone or a fracture, the treatment for the injury will be the same. However, the course of treatment will depend on how bad the break is, what type of fracture it is & your overall health.

At BCP, we can treat any bone-related condition you come to us with. Our experienced physiotherapists will talk you through the whole healing process from the initial diagnosis to rehabilitation and physical therapy, answering any of the questions you might have.

Ultimately, you can prevent fractures by knowing the risks of your sports activities & hobbies & taking steps to prevent injuries. Also consider making changes in your home to protect against falls & go about your day-to-day life with a mindset to guard against possible accidents.

What causes frozen shoulder?

Frozen shoulder happens when flexible tissue that surrounds the shoulder joint (known as the capsule), becomes inflamed and thickened. It's not fully understood why this process happens.

Physiotherapy is the most common treatment for frozen shoulders. The aim is to stretch the shoulder joint and regain lost movement. Progress can take anywhere from a few weeks to nine months.

Often corticosteroids, a type of anti-inflammatory medicine may be suggested as an injection in your shoulder joint to reduce the inflammation and improve your symptoms.

If you are suffering from shoulder pain, check in with your doctor or physiotherapist be have this assessed.

We were ahead of the trend! All of a sudden it’s all about the slant board for calf stretching to increase flexibility & mobility in the calf.

Turn the slant board around and do your “knees over toes” strengthening.

Stretching your calves decreases the risk of overuse injuries of the lower limbs.

Modern shoes have our calf and achilles complex in shortened positions for long periods of time.

Grab your slant board for $40 at our clinic.

Movement is medicine and movement heals! Let’s start the weekend right and let's move our bodies. Join us?

Why move your body?

🏌Movement helps by increasing cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and overall stamina. It can also assist in weight loss.

🏌Movement prevents disease by reducing the risk of various chronic conditions, including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer, and osteoporosis. It can also help control blood pressure and cholesterol levels

🏌Increases feel good hormones. Movement has a profound impact on mental well-being by stimulating the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that promote feelings of happiness, reduce stress, anxiety and depression. It can also improve sleep quality.

🏌Movement increases energy levels and combats fatigue by enhancing blood flow, oxygen delivery and nutrient circulation giving increased vitality and productivity in daily activities

🏌Movement improves brain function and has been linked to enhanced cognitive function including improved memory, attention, and problem-solving skills promoting neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt and change, which is crucial for learning and maintaining mental sharpness as we age

🏌Movement helps strengthen bones and prevent conditions like osteoporosis. Add resistance training exercises to promote muscle growth and maintenance which is essential for overall strength and mobility

🏌 Boost the immune system with movement as it improves circulation and promotes the movement of immune cells. This reduces the risk of chronic inflammation with a reduced incidence of respiratory tract infections, such as the common cold

🏌Movement provides opportunities for social interaction and friendship – enabling connections and a sense of belonging positively impacting mental health and overall well-being.

Inspired? We certainly are 💫

See you next week friends
