Healing your back pain isn’t about resting more, it’s about awakening more.

I used to believe recovery meant rest, stretch, and hope the pain didn’t come back.
But after years as a Brisbane physiotherapist, I realised something was missing.

Passive treatments physio, massage, even stretching can help for a while…
but they rarely change the way you move, think, or feel.

When I discovered yoga therapy for back pain, everything shifted.
Yoga wasn’t just exercise it was a map back to myself.
It retrained my body, regulated my nervous system, and reconnected me with my energy.

That’s when I learned: pain isn’t the enemy.

I walked into my first yoga class hungover, stiff, and completely disconnected… and walked out changed forever. 🧘‍♀️

It was London, January 3rd.
I’d just wrapped up a very indulgent European summer and my body felt heavy, tight, and tired.
I unrolled a £5 “non-slip” mat from Primark (that definitely wasn’t non-slip 😅) and slipped, slid, and sweated my way through 75 minutes of what felt like chaos.

But then… something shifted.
As I lay in that final pose, shavasana, my whole body sighed in relief.
For the first time in years, my nervous system exhaled.

I didn’t know it then, but that moment was the start of my healing.
Not just my body, but my awareness, my energy, and eventually, my entire approach as a Brisbane physiotherapist.

What began as a physical challenge became the doorway to yoga therapy for back pain — and to a new way of living in my body.

I was a Brisbane physio for 20 years … but something wasn’t adding up. 🧘‍♀️

For years, I helped people manage their low back pain with the same tools, physio, stretching, manual therapy.
And yet, they kept coming back. The pain kept coming back.

It wasn’t until I walked into my very first yoga class (on a slippery £5 mat in London!) that everything changed.
Lying there in savasana, I felt my nervous system exhale for the first time in years.
