Your brain’s “protectometer” doesn’t just detect physical threats, it also responds to stress, worry, and emotional tension.

When that system stays switched on too long, your body starts speaking through pain.
This episode of The Empowered Yogi Podcast dives deep into how stress lives in the body and how yoga retrains your nervous system to feel safe again.

Your body isn’t broken, it’s protecting you.
Let’s teach it to feel safe again.

Ever feel like your back tightens when life feels heavy, even when you haven’t done anything physical?

That’s not weakness.
It’s your body remembering stress that never got fully released.

Just like clutter on your computer slows it down, emotional debris builds up in your nervous system when life gets busy and you don’t get a chance to process it.

Yoga teaches us that this stuck energy, what science calls an overactive “protectometer”, can keep your body in defence mode, even long after the stressful moment has passed.

The practice isn’t about avoiding the mud.
It’s about learning to bloom in it, like the lotus. 🌸
When you move, breathe, and feel with awareness, you teach your body that it’s safe to let go.

That’s where healing begins.

Do you ever feel like you’ve tried everything for your back and it keeps coming back anyway?

It’s not your fault.
So many yoga lovers and active women fall into the same loop, doing the right stretches, resting when sore, even getting treatment, yet the tension returns.
Here’s the truth few talk about:
Your pain might not just be physical.

Your protectometer, your brain’s built-in threat detector, can amplify pain signals when life feels stressful, even if there’s no new injury.
The good news? You can retrain it.

Through mindful yoga therapy, breathwork, and embodied awareness, you can teach your body to feel safe again, and when it feels safe, it finally lets go.

We all fall into the trap of believing that “less stress” comes from cutting things out, doing less, saying no, cancelling plans.
And yes… sometimes that’s needed.

But here’s the truth:
👉 Reducing stress isn’t the same as healing it.

Healing happens when your nervous system learns to feel safe in the middle of the chaos, when you can live, love, work, and parent from a place of grounded resilience instead of reactivity.

That’s what yoga therapy and neuroscience teach us, how to retrain your body to flow like the lotus in the muddy water. 🌸

What if your back pain isn’t a sign of damage… but a sign your nervous system feels unsafe?
Your brain has a built-in Protectometerm a threat detector that turns up pain signals when it senses danger. But it doesn’t just respond to heavy lifting or bad posture… it reacts to stress, worry, and emotion, too.

Yoga philosophy calls this stuck energy in the Root Chakra.
Neuroscience calls it an overactive stress response.

Either way, your pain isn’t punishment, it’s communication.
When you learn to process stress and restore safety in your body, healing begins.

Most yogis think the answer to their back pain is to stretch more… or bend their knees more.
But what if the real problem isn’t what you’re doing, it’s how you’re moving? 🌿
The truth is, the most important “pose” to modify for your low back…
isn’t a pose at all — it’s a transition.

👉 Every time you move from standing into a forward fold, your body has a choice:
to bend from your spine (your autopilot pattern)…

or to hinge from your hips, activating your glutes and protecting your back.
That one small shift changes everything.
It’s how I help my clients finally get off the recurring injury hamster wheel and it’s one of the three core steps in my Empowered Yogi Method for lasting back-pain recovery.

✨ The takeaway:
You’re not broken. You just need to re-train the map your brain uses to move.

You can stretch every day…
but if your brain is still following the same old movement pattern — your back will keep telling the same story.
The real transformation begins when you build awareness.
When you start noticing how you move, how you breathe, and how you think on the mat.
This week on The Empowered Yogi Podcast, I share how retraining your movement map, not just your muscles, can completely change your relationship with your back and your body.

You’ve done the stretches, the strengthening, the massage…

But your back still flares up again, right when you think you’re finally getting somewhere. 😩

If that sounds familiar, you’re not broken. your body’s simply following the story your brain believes about it.

Your thoughts and movement patterns are wired together.
When you change the story your brain tells your body,
your strength, confidence, and healing all start to change too.

This is the work I teach inside the Empowered Yogi Method, and what I share in this week’s episode of The Empowered Yogi Podcast:
🎧 “The Most Important Pose to Modify for Your Low Back”

Your body is waiting for a new story.
Start rewiring it, one breath, one movement, one belief at a time.

02/12/2025

Have you ever told yourself a story like…
“I’m just not strong enough.”
“My body just doesn’t move that way.”
“I’m too old, too stiff, too weak…”

Here’s the truth: those are stories. not facts.

When you start to change your beliefs about your body, your brain literally rewires how it moves, strengthens, and heals. ✨

That’s the magic behind the Empowered Yogi Method, and what I teach in this week’s episode of The Empowered Yogi Podcast.

Ever told yourself you’re just “not built” for certain poses?
That your body’s limitations are set in stone?

I used to believe that too. For years, I thought something in me was missing,
until yoga showed me that it wasn’t my anatomy holding me back… it was the story I was telling myself. 🌿

When we shift from “fixing our body” to rewiring how we move and think,
our whole practice and our healing, begins to transform.

Most people try to fix back pain by stretching more, strengthening more, or resting more.

But healing doesn’t happen by doing more,it happens when you rewire how you move. 🧠✨

In Episode 2 of The Empowered Yogi Podcast, I share the three missing steps that helped me overcome my own recurring back pain, and that have helped so many of my yoga students do the same.

It starts with awareness. Then your brain learns a new way to move, protect, and support your spine, naturally.
