November is ‘Movember!’

What’s Movember?

Movember is a global movement dedicated to improving men’s health, with a strong focus on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and su***de prevention.

Each November, participants kick off the month clean-shaven and grow a moustache as a bold, visible way to spark important conversations and reduce the stigma around these issues.

People can get involved by growing a “Mo,” 🥸taking on physical challenges through Move for Movember, hosting or joining community events, donating, or simply starting conversations with the men in their lives.

Over the years, Movember has funded more than 1,320 men’s health projects worldwide, working to transform how health services support men and ultimately helping them live healthier, longer lives.

Thank you to everyone supporting Movember. It’s a wonderful cause, and every effort and donation helps make a real difference for men’s health.

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects individuals with ovaries, typically during their reproductive years. It involves a combination of symptoms and is characterised by the presence of multiple small cysts on the ovaries, although not everyone with PCOS has cysts.

Some symptoms are:

1. Hormonal Imbalance where increased levels of androgens (male hormones) such as testosterone which can lead to symptoms like excess facial and body hair (hirsutism), acne, and male-pattern baldness.

Irregular menstrual cycles, which can range from very light to heavy or prolonged periods. Some individuals may experience infrequent or absent periods (oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea).

2. Polycystic Ovaries is where the ovaries may become enlarged and contain multiple small follicles (fluid-filled sacs) that surround the eggs. This can be observed through an ultrasound.

3. Some may have weigh gain.

4. PCOS is also a cause of infertility due to irregular ovulation or the absence of ovulation.

Which one suits you?

Implanon, Mirena, and Kyleena are all long-acting contraceptives, but they differ in form and function.

Implanon is a small rod inserted under the skin of the arm that releases a hormone to prevent pregnancy for up to three years.

Mirena and Kyleena are both T-shaped devices placed in the uterus, releasing hormones effective for up to five years, but they have slight differences: Mirena often reduces menstrual bleeding, while Kyleena, being slightly smaller and releasing a lower dose of hormone.

All three methods block s***m and may stop ovulation, but Implanon is in the arm, while Mirena and Kyleena are in the uterus.
