Anika Wells with all due respect, rather than tell rich aged care providers at the Aged & Community Care Providers Association conference of your plans to “ herd parliamentary cats to pass an aged care act by Christmas” you could actually find out why the cats seem to need herding in the first place?

What’s making these cats so nervous they are getting claws out fearful of public backlash to your back room shenanigans with Anne Ruston ? If you do listen you will hear many cats have heard their people are VERY upset you are helping your provider mates to take our super, family home and kids inheritance with no guarantee it will be passed on for older people ?

You’re not a talented enough cat herder minister to bully your cats or a cynical public that’s it ok for an act that is supposed to protect older people but has no criminal or effective financial penalties. Esp when Anthony Albanese was elected on putting dodgy aged care providers in jail and Peter Dutton supposedly is tough on criminals.

I don’t think any cat will be ok being herded who has listened to the needs of older people from those in their electorate, Persons Advocacy Older Persons Advocacy Network , COTA Australia - for older Australians , Aged Care Reform Now , Aged Care Justice - Formerly ALARM and witnesses and submissions to the senate community affairs committee on the real way to truly improve aged care. I’d put down your cat herding tools and stock up on dettol cream because you’ll have a cat fight on your hands esp when this petition with over 11000 signatures is lodged!

Help our elected political cats still fighting this awful aged care act by signing our senate petition here. Lodging before Christmas !

Criminal penalties in aged care act, and no tax on our super, house or kids inheritance

Puddleduck socks, rsl candles, people you just meet who you’ve just met in person but feel like old friends all on in a beautiful city I’ve only briefly visited befit. Couldn’t have planned if you tried! And I wouldn’t. Life is what happens when you try and make other plans. And realise you can even while politicians we trust to look after older people instead make it possible to abuse and kill them and not have to face any criminal penalties. Obviously different and far worse atrocities Germans committed in world war 2 . But legally did we let those tried at Nuremberg decide their penalties . Or how much compensation the victims of their crimes against humanity receive ?

Thank you so much as always (and I always appreciate as well as the mothering from you and dadding from Paul) Amina Schipp from key grassroots advocate group Aged Care Reform Now (along with Aged Care Justice - Formerly ALARM not represented today but mentioned today also)

Also some smart looking guy who always seems to take a good photo and never has a bad day or no hair day , Craig something ? That’s right I knew I’d remember. Apparently this dapper guy with the yellow socks ( I totally want too ) is Craig Gear from Older Persons Advocacy Network which I DO already know . So do 44,000 people who call them every year and rely on these beautiful caring people for frontline help when they have an Aged care issue (and they are just the tip of the iceberg , as most older people don’t have opan in their phone and can’t text )

There are some who don’t know as I do how hard it is for all the great people at OPAN to provide a far more effective complaints mechanism method for public concerned not getting what need in aged care system. This includes some advocates but I think they’re wrong. I can attest how much I trust and believe the vital work Older Persons Advocacy Network and Council on the Ageing is and why far more support for this as well as other aged care advocate groups is needed.

We get desensitised sometimes . Even now writing this I can’t believe what Michelle told me who corrected me it’s 44,000 aged care complaints a year , not the 28000 I thought they did is apparently two years old.

That’s (checks math). 16000 more complaints in 2 years they have to manage with limited resources . 60% increase in complaints opan have had to manage in 2 years since Anthony Albanese Jim Chalmers MP and co were elected. Aged care providers were given $8 billion more in the same time , deliver less care than we had last government . And this afternoon going to getting richer still with blood money from an no one wants other than
nothing makes them wealthy enough corporates who weaponise political donations , lobbying media to buy both major parties to get what they want . Which today is an outrage - no criminal penalties for abusers of older people . In a weak already legally ineffective draft act not ready to stop street smart providers not worried about $2 million fines.

While opan has to look after all those “increasingly wealthy older people” no one else other than a provider heavy taskforce can find how much extra ? It won’t be the $8 billion plus a whole new tax user pay scheme providers get today . But if that budgets not at least 60% more to handle all the extra complaints the last 2 years , and likely far more when the public realises what politicians have just allowed today , then that’s an outrage. And I’d expect many senators who share my and other advocates opinions on the vital work opan and also COTA Australia - for older Australians do to receive commensurate compensation for the extra work , and trauma they have to deal with as the broken aged care system is still well and truly continuing to being broken and run by the inmates.

Nice to focus on the happy though - I’m off to meet more friends I didn’t I know

F there are a lot of them Anika . I hope your “friends” have your back like the people who seem to genuinely care (and act not talk ) about aged care , seem to be with me, our fellow advocates and mostly older people.

But I hope if not you can find them. That is after you’re done destroying the human rights of older people and those who love them this afternoon in parliament . Your fair weather phoney frauds friends won’t be there when you need them , like mine . And they despise you too , who they think of as weak and a pawn to use to help make sure they aren’t locked up. But have bought you both sides politics and can’t believe their luck they not only avoid jail but get our super , kids house deposited and user pays getting to decide how much more money they get to throw on the pile . While 44,000 a year call opan suffering , and many more who are don’t, it’s an aged care provider all Christmas’s at once party in Canberra this afternoon.

I’d rather have real hang out with real humans than those who are lucky it’s not wartime as they abuse and harm older people with gay abandon , and can clink glasses and laugh afterward.

Ps I also met lovely fellow aged care advocate called Michelle I hadn’t met before in the National Older Persons Reference group I think it was. Sorry was bit jet lagged Michelle , was great to meet you after Amina spoke so often of you . If someone could tag her I’d appreciate it i couldnt remember your surname. I do member how much I Loved your horses, you remembered to give Craig gift from veterans - I hadn’t realised you were on veterans taskforce too Craig just that Returned & Services League like this one Amina’s husband Paul is president of !)

I hadn’t expected to have time on my AAC Health Group work trip to have much non work time which great to meet such genuine people and hear more about the amazing work they do for (and aren’t even offended when I get excited about aged care and I’m not either when they give a not real talking stick to others !)

Anyone mind also tagging the minister of I don’t aged care ? Because I seem to not be able to ask our (or summer or whichever poor staffer has to read this and others, and then book your nice look at me with an older person. You’ll be doing a lot of unpaid overtime soon once the no criminal penalties revelation happens. And it will. )

URGENT!!! We can stop this article below coming true! Before June 30 contact your local member and say you, and everyone you know, says NO you don’t want an aged care tax. NO you don’t want a super or inheritance tax. NO you dont support the aged care taskforce recommendations or a weak aged care act!

Why do we need you to contact your local member this week? Because aged care providers already are, after a call to action from their “confident” peak body ceo who says just having influential providers speak to local members means they can still get their hands on our super and kids inheritance !

Sounds like a done deal here from Aged & Community Care Providers Association head honcho doesn’t it? https://www.australianageingagenda.com.au/executive/new-legislation-expected-soon/

Sorry Tom but an aged care tax is NOT a done deal and you know it! You are nervous and trying to keep your job with many aged care providers not happy with you. It’s also why the same day you said you are confident taskforce recommendations will be passed you “told” aged care providers (who elect you btw) they had to contact local members to get this over the line.

“I have had so many conversations with opposition members of parliament, government members of parliament, ‘Oh, someone from the sector came and said that the sector doesn’t like this bit of the taskforce [report]’. You might think you’re helping [but] that has almost killed it about 15 times. Please just say you support the package.” https://www.australianageingagenda.com.au/executive/providers-told-to-support-full-taskforce-report/?utm_campaign=AAA%20-%20Overall%20Publication%20-%20Master&utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz--VHEIgny_4iHARWqz1yq2-5vHHTp81ymvovJt4mZgnaTOvzexVVYObNOjwBYFRS0grPykFQRbsjbEv_GOpqVFTU4DjIy8Nr9Swqe55Gwzqr7es818&_hsmi=312552168&utm_content=312552168&utm_source=hs_email

Despite your confidence Tom, at every point you and aged care providers have failed to get this across the line with money and influence, begause nervous and or ethical politicians actually hearing from the public made them blink and reconsider.

If you don’t think we should have an aged care super and inheritance tax, and an aged care act that isn’t even legally enforceable .

And when you do (it’s easy! See link below) as clearly as Tom tells his members to say they support the aged care act and taskforce recommendations , you DON’T!!!

Look up your local pollie here and be heard https://electorate.aec.gov.au/

So when your local pollie or wanna be elected pollie gets the knock-on door from lobbyists, or reads aged care provider propaganda, they may just think twice. Or actually pick up the phone and tell Anika Wells and Anne Ruston or Anthony Albanese or The Hon. Peter Dutton MP no way ! I’ll lose my electorate and job over this aged care tax!

Lets show arrogant rich greedy ceos that Abraham Lincoln was right. We aren’t fooled we demand older people are protected and taxpayer funds enforced where they go including allied health. We will only elect and support members who actually reflect our views on what older people need if we send them to Canberra!

https://electorate.aec.gov.au/

And please keep sharing and encouraging others to sign this petition.

Let’s prove Tom wrong.

Very urgent we need your help this weekend ! Please keep signing our senate petition this weekend to , the last weekend before treasurer Jim Chalmers delivers his budget that will decide whether we have an .

Anika Wells and her aged care taskforce called for this tax because older Australians are “increasingly wealthy”. Even though 90% of older Australians feel financial strain according to National Seniors Australia and 25% are in poverty from oecd stats. 60% of older Australians can’t afford to go to the dentist from COTA Australia research.

Yet older people somehow need to fund aged care providers because the taskforce used three year old stats that 70% of providers lose money and won’t be sustainable without a super tax (even though march 24 figures same source showed 70% providers profitable).

A good example is aged care providers Regis Aged Care whose share prices have boomed in the last four years, a staggering 449% return on investment! Looks like fairly sustainable to me !

Is it ok if I don’t give my sons inheritance to them and other aged care providers?

THANK YOU to all the 5420 people in just four weeks (!) who have signed our petition to and kids inheritance from greedy aged care providers . This is a phenomenal start, faster than previous campaigns to and .

Are you able to help us? Why should you? Because this isn’t just about aged care so that you and your kids get quality aged care. It’s also about you losing your super and your kids losing inheritance and tne house deposit you wanted to give them to get a start in the property market. Please skip to the end to read how you can help.

We are so grateful to these 5420 people who helped us with the early momentum to keep this on the radar after the initial outrage of the recommendations settled as it was replaced by the next outrage in the media cycle.

The government knew the reports would be massively unpopular which is why they sat on it for months and a by election and they and the opposition are watching to see if they can get away with intergenerational theft in plain sight.

Aged care providers and lobbyists know it’s hard to sell “increasingly wealthy older people” “poor providers” taskforce narrative (esp when aged care advocates, nurses and even a taskforce member Margaret Walsh speak out against this narrative).

The small vested corporate interests think they can just wait out the public to forget, whilst busily buying influence and media to get a stealth through in treasurer Jim Chalmers MP May budget. Both government , opposition and providers seem quite happy to continue to allow the abuse of older people with an outdated 1997 aged care act in place now, and a weak unenforceable new act now delayed a year to pass in parliament.

Our petition we intend to lodge at the senate also calls for a humans rights based . To achieve this any government needs to make amendments based on abusers of older people to be individually accountable in the courts, which you might be horrified to know, is NOT in the current draft aged care before parliament.

How can you help us avoid greedy aged care providers getting more billions to provide even less care?

1/ Keep signing and sharing petition. Numbers count, and media and the government will pay attention as they had to when we got to 20000 with our previous senate petitions. We need 2480 to get to our next target. Please click and share below to your network on social media, email and text it, WhatsApp and in person

2/ If able please donate cost of a cup of coffee to help change.org promote for us to get this petition in front of more eyeballs. Click on link below then promote to do this and thank you for whatever you can spare , it all helps.

3/ Write to print and online and tv radio media , and call talkback and say and

4/ Contact your local mp as well to say the same thing as well as Senator Anne Ruston and Senator Penny Allman-Payne opposition and greens aged care spokespeople. Tell them to talk to aged care minister Anika Wells MP because she stopped listening to aged care experts a long time ago and is unlikely to be listening to any changes to the taskforce recommendations given she chaired the taskforce herself !

Thank you again 5420 legends and all the legends who help us in the future, and show that people can change awful policy that hurts all of us, by reminding politicians who elects them and they represent.

Don't take my word for it. Here's what others have said.

Margaret Walsh (aged care taskforce member!) "Many of us have scrimped and saved over the years, we haven't taken overseas trips. We don’t want a user-pays system creating two tiers and yet still not have an aged care system, where the minimum level of care is not certain and even basic services might need to be paid for."

Aged Care Reform Now Yvonne Buters states that, “the Government is proposing a quasi-inheritance tax, which will not be paid by all. We risk having a 2-tier system between those who can pay and those who can’t. A consumer of aged care services would be happy to pay for high level clinical care, but this Report does not address how we can be sure that high quality care is going to be delivered with additional funding”.

Amina Schipp also ACRN “Those who do not have the means to pay will be protected by the Government’s safety net, and those who fall in the high wealth bracket will easily be able to pay, but it is those in the middle who will be paying the highest percentage of their wealth, which is unfair”

Anastasia Willis CEO Aged Care Justice - Formerly ALARM “If $14.6 billion was spent by the Government on residential care in 2021/22, and we now know that spending fell short in consistently delivering quality care, then we have the wrong system – more money is not the answer”

Sarah Holland-Batt "The taskforce, comprising industry insiders including aged care providers....emphasises that it has been focused on seeking “sustainable” solutions to aged care funding arrangements. However, given that the taskforce’s report includes no costings, nor a response from the government, it’s impossible to ascertain how viable or sustainable its alternate model of funding is."

Dr Rodney Jilek MAICD "Pouring more money into the leaking bucket will fix nothing Anika Wells. Time to listen to those without a vested interest."

Prof Kathy Eagar "..older people with the means to do so already make a substantial contribution to the cost of their care." Cites Anna Howe that 50% won't have the means to pay "...which means that the remaining 50% would be required to contribute an average of more than $20,000 a year on top of what they are already paying."

And from petition signers. Heidi Ross "I'm tired of seeing abuse across different sectors being rewarded with 'more funding', and this particular style of grab bodes ill indeed for users.

Marilyn Long "The providers just see superannuation as a honey pot. Some already make obscene profits which don't stay in Australia"

Narelle Williams "Funds for aged care should provide actual care, it seems the more funds (government plus individual contributions) the higher the administration costs.

Please stop this . And get real human rights for older people. Sign here https://chng.it/kXvrQSzQmr

Margaret Walsh aged care advocate from Aged Care Reform Now shares same concerns about the aged care task force recommendations I and many others do hence our petition (please support you’ll see why below). And Margaret would know she was on the aged care taskforce ! And her and older people’s clearly ignored.

Anne Connolly article below quotes Margaret and many of our concerns.

“Speaking for the first time to the ABC, she says the consumer voice was "quashed", with the final report being released with changes that she didn't approve.

She is concerned about how much extra people will be asked to contribute.

She said the vast majority of 85-year-olds have super balances of less than $50,000.

"Many of us have scrimped and saved over the years, we haven't taken overseas trips," she said.

"We don’t want a user-pays system creating two tiers and yet still not have an aged care system, where the minimum level of care is not certain and even basic services might need to be paid .”

Please listen to Margaret , mine and many other advocate concerns. More money won’t mean more care, just bigger profits aged care providers. A is an and an . https://www.change.org/handsoffoursuper

Want this to keep happening to older people where services like allied health that are budgeted for and taken from taxpayers and given to providers are not provided ? https://www.linkedin.com/posts/allied-health-professions-australia_%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F-%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F%3F-activity-7184445421384077312-lmlG?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios

Want the upcoming federal budget to include yet more money for profitable providers hiding money with accounting tricks , who then will still cry poor and not provide services ?

Want to take your hard earned super and give it to multinational aged care providers swallowing up smaller providers to guarantee their shareholders 20% return on investment ?

Want to have to sell your house to pay for basic care and leave you’re kids without an inheritance by letting the government get away with implementing its own recommendations from a provider heavy aged care Taskforce that the aged care minister Anika Wells MP chaired?

Me neither and nor does anyone I know.

Pls tell this to your local member that you don’t agree with the Canberra bubble of industry lobbyists and media who think this is ok

Tell them CLEARY you are aren’t ok with aged care taskforce that goes against the royal commission recommendations to take our super and must more .
, . And please sign and share our senate petition to and implement a rights based aged care act rather than the toothless one we have a draft of now that lets providers get away with abuse and stealing from older people.

Our mums dads and loved ones in aged care deserve far far better than this . Please give them a voice at the senate by signing and sharing our petition

We need 169 signatures to get to 2000 milestone for our petition. Pls sign below !

Why do we need your help with this ? You might have seen the hoo ha over an report released that recommended user pays , using super for “increasingly wealthy older adults to pay for providers losing money”. See how Aged Care Reform Now 2.0 (who kindly support my petition and putting on site soon) find this report https://agedcarereformnow.com.au/taskforce-report-on-aged-care-funding-leaves-more-questions-than-answers/

The media almost exclusively played sound bites about how this was fair and needed from Aged & Community Care Providers Association and their ceo (and taskforce member) Tom Symondson.

The major trouble is with these sound bites they sound reasonable on surface don’t hold up to any scrutiny because

* older people aren’t increasingly wealthy
* providers arent losing money. March 24 70% providers profitable and highly questionable other 30% aren’t with promises of shareholder windfalls and guarantee return investment 20%. How if losing money ?

Other problem ? The taskforce reporting to government was chaired by government itself (aged care minister Anika Wells MP) and at least 10 of 16 on taskforce had heavy aged care provider links so their independence when calling for more money is quite questionable. And that 16 people meeting 6 times in 6 months secretly (deliberations not revealed) know more on funding than a royal commission hearing evidence for two years ? I don’t think that passes the pub test.

Don’t just take my word for it . Knowledgeable advocates and academics have spoken out on risk of taking on taskforce recommendations Aged Care Justice - Formerly ALARM, The Australian Greens, The Project, ABC News, Older Women's Network NSW, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation, Sarah Holland-Batt, COTA Australia - for older Australians, Older Persons Advocacy Network , Kathy eagar, and many others have expressed concerns (read their own articles for their own words)

Some very genuine and brave people on the taskforce who signed non disclosure agreements not to criticise government support our petition also. They know what I’m saying below is true also.

What the taskforce recommends is a tax that will take super make people sell house pay for any decent care and intergenerational theft because our kids won’t have anything to inherit! Without any guarantee care will be provided. The current the minister just had to shelve as leaked it wasn’t ready isn’t even legally enforceable in court if providers break rules including serious incidents and abuse of older people.

More care doesn’t equal more money. More care leads to more care.

Tell any local politician you can that you don’t support the taskforce recommending user pay aged care and in no uncertain terms . Don’t steal from our kids for care we won’t even get.

No money without far far more quality , transparency and repercussions with civil and criminal penalties if providers don’t pass on funds for care.

And please sign our senate petition here https://chng.it/StMDCscwwx
