Nutritional Medicine combines food as medicine traditions and dietary therapy with recent scientific advances in nutritional biochemistry and therapeutics. Caryn views food, diet and nutritional supplements from the perspective of their therapeutic potential. She provides dietary advice to her clients and prescribes nutritional supplements, to assist in the treatment of a broad range of health conditions. Caryn’s aim is to identify the cause of dysfunction, educate the patient and develop a treatment plan, to re-establish and maintain wellbeing. Naturopathy is a blend of natural therapies tested over time and supported by the best available scientific evidence. It does not just address symptoms or try to suppress them, but looks for the cause in order to resolve the imbalance. Naturopathic principles are based on treating each person as an individual and treating the whole person, not just the affected area. Sometimes this may mean relying on supplementation and herbal medicine for treatment, but we strive to use natural options that are the least invasive as the primary option. Naturopathy can alleviate a wide range of conditions and is suitable for all ages. Some of the more common conditions which Caryn help with include fatigue, stress related ailments, digestive problems and hormonal imbalances. However, you do not need to be unwell to benefit from Naturopathy. Naturopathic treatments boost the body's natural healing potential, and preventing disease.

Let’s talk... Histamine. 🤧

Histamine is an important part of your body’s natural immune response, protecting your tissues by escorting allergens out of your system. However, when histamine persists longer than necessary, it may hinder the healing process.

Digestive enzymes DAO and HNMT aid your gut in eliminating histamines, but some people run low on these. When your body is unable to break histamine down effectively, an excess accumulates. This can lead to a cascade of symptoms, including allergic responses. Histamine is considered the main cause of itchiness.

Histamine is naturally present in many foods, and histamine food sources such as wine, aged cheeses and fermented foods can add to the histamine load.

The primary purpose of an antihistamine diet is to decrease the consumption of histamine-rich foods and those that block DAO or trigger histamine release and promote foods that reduce inflammation and improve immunity -- supporting optimal digestive function, nutrient digestion and absorption.

The key word is FRESH when it comes to the antihistamine diet! Here are a few examples of foods to enjoy and foods to avoid when following an antihistamine diet.

👉 While the focus of an antihistamine diet is to promote the inclusion of antihistamine foods, it may also limit some nutrient-rich foods so care must be taken to help support your transition and make sure all your dietary requirements are met. Speak to your healthcare practitioner first to make sure an antihistamine diet is right for you.
