Newcastle naturopathic clinic closed.

I had intended to post this just after arriving in Brisbane at the end of last year. I didn’t expect to fracture my ankle days before movng interstate & having the year from hell! I also know a part of me wasn’t ready to let go.

I learnt so much over my 11 years of working with clients. I am very grateful for the support and those who stuck with me! 🩵

A big Thank you to Ian Bell @ Vitality Junction for giving me my start all those years ago!

I have started seeing clients in Brisbane & am loving having my head back in the naturopathy world!

Online appointments will be available in 2026 ✨

Did you know that as women, we're at a higher risk of developing allergies, sensitivities and intolerances, and to experience more intense symptoms? This is due to the tumultuous relationship between estrogen and histamine.

If estrogen is high it drives up histamine and if histamine is high it drives up estrogen.

During perimenopause women will often have what are called anovulatory cycles, there can be menstrual bleeding without ovulation. The only way the body produces progesterone is by ovulating. Healthy levels of progesterone keep estrogen in balance. Without ovulating there is an imbalance and this drives up estrogen levels and with that histamine.

Stress also robs the body of the building block to make progesterone. From my experience women in their 40's can be under a lot of stress due to work and family demands further adding to an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone.

Both of these factors are underlying causes as to why allergies can be exacerbated during perimenopause.

After the shocking mess that was 2023, this year I am keeping it simple. I still don’t know how I made it out of last year with my sanity intact!

What do I like to help my clients with - hormonal balance!!!

This is just a snapshot of how I can help. It’s important to remember everyone is different and an individualised approach for each client is most effective.

🌷 Perimenopause - high estrogen / low progesterone

🌷 Menopause - low oestrogen, no progesterone, possibly testosterone dominance & insulin resistance

🌷 PCOS - high testosterone, high SHBG, insulin resistance, low progesterone, high or low oestrogen

🌷 Endometriosis- high estrogen / possible low progesterone

🌷 Hypothyroidism- low thyroid hormones / high thyroid stimulating hormone

🌷 Stress - cortisol dysregulation

🌷 Acne - high testosterone and/or high estrogen

Are hay fever symptoms driving you crazy? 🤧 Are you confused and as to why you are experiencing lingering symptoms year-round and not just during the spring months?

The reality for most hay fever suffers is mild to moderate symptoms year-round due to perennial triggers then a big flare-up in symptoms when spring hits due to seasonal triggers.

If you have seasonal hay fever, it’s pretty much a given that pollen is a trigger. What you may not be aware of are other triggers such as plant phenolics and terpenes.

Plant phenolics and terpenes are naturally occurring compounds that help determine a plant’s taste, colour and smell. Cut grass is an example of plant phenolics and essential oils are often high in terpenes.

😡😡😡 Ahhhh this makes me so angry... The longer I am a naturopath the more frustrated I become when clients are told everything is OK with their blood tests from their GP when clearly there is something that has been picked up that is affecting their health and how they feel 🤦🏼‍♀️

I was just informed by a client her GP accessed the pathology testing I had requested for her and told her there was nothing out of the ordinary that needed addressing and that it was simply her ageing that was slowing down her thyroid???

This client is 66 and clearly has an iodine deficiency and elevated thyroid antibodies (autoimmune disease of the thyroid) both of these things have a big impact on how your thyroid functions. As your thyroid controls your metabolism you know about it and don't feel great if it's not functioning optimally.

Iodine deficiency is one of the most common deficiencies I see in my clinic along with Iron and Vitamin B12. Iodine is very rarely tested by GP's. Many women have an iodine deficiency and don't realise it and are so routinely told everything is fine when they know that it's not!

The most common iodine deficiency signs I pick up when I chat to a new client are

Cold hands + feet
Cold in intolerance
Inability to lose weight when eating well & exercising
Fatigue
Heavy or irregular periods
Hair loss

If you suspect you have an iodine deficiency get it checked by a naturopath or request through your GP for an additional cost.

It's important to note if there is a selenium deficiency and thyroid antibodies are present supplementing with high doses of iodine can make you feel worse until the selenium deficiency is addressed.

Rant over! 😅

Iodine is an essential mineral commonly found in seafood.

Such a beautiful review from a gorgeous client ✨

It was such a pleasure to work with her and her husband to help them bring their adorable little girl into the world 💕
As the focus in my clinic shifted it was so lovely to see this client again and have additional tools to help her regain her health and vitality.

This year has definitely not gone to plan! I have been through some incredibly challenging moments that broke me and I wasn't sure if I could still keep practising as a naturopath. I have also had some amazing moments with beautiful friends and the special people in my life that have filled my cup ❤️

I have really learnt to look at things differently and go with the flow of the energy. This has led me back to delving into fertility work again with clients. I am excited to see where this takes me!

Prime Hydration! If you have a pre teen or teenage boy I'm sure you are aware of this hideous drink, created by You Tubers around a mass of hype that in my opinion tastes horrible!

With the popularity of sugar free drinks and food on the rise, not all of these toxic sweeteners should be allowed in food!!! It is so important to check labels! Prime contains sucralose which makes it incredibly sweet and Coke no sugar, Sprite no sugar, Sprite and Fanta all contain another nemesis of mine...asapartame.

These sweeteners make me angry, why? Because they cause aggression in my son and negatively affect his behaviour.

Many people would not be aware that sweeteners along with food preservatives, flavour enhancers & artificial colours all affect behaviour, especially if your child is ASD, ADHD or both.

My son avoids these sweeteners and other chemicals that affect his behaviour. I understand only too well this isn't always possible and I find the best way to support this is to desensitise him to these substances to reduce his big reactions.

Feel free to message me if you would like further info on this.
