A couple of weeks ago Kat and Mikaela sat down with our associate Ben, whose father-in-law was recently fitted with hearing aids at Urban Well. In this video Ben talks about his experiences with Urban Well, his father-in-law’s hearing loss journey as well as his life-changing results with hearing aids. It is feedback like this from our beloved clients that makes us proud to do what we do. Often, we forget that hearing loss not only impacts the person with the loss but also those around them, in more ways than not. It almost brought us to tears hearing how Ben’s daughter now gets excited to see her grandpa and how his hearing aids have changed their relationship for the better. Each year, World Hearing Day is celebrated during Hearing Awareness Week on the 3rd March. Due to the devastating impact of last week’s Brisbane floods, we decided to push our celebrations back a week…However, our thoughts continue to go out to those that have been affected by the floods.

World Alzheimer’s Day
At Urban Well our goal is to help people prevent the onset of chronic health conditions and diseases. We want people to have health and quality of life long-term and maintain their independence.
Yesterday was World Alzheimer’s day. Our team put together this little video to share some tips on how you can prevent the onset of this debilitating condition.
So excited to have Audiology as part of our health services at Urban. Even though hearing loss is invisible, it is still a physical condition. We hope that by bringing it into an allied health clinic focused on feeling great, at any age, we can bring awareness to the importance of treating hearing loss like any other chronic health condition.

It’s really common to have a coach asking you over and over to change something in your technique, without you feeling like you are making much progress.
Sometimes stopping for a moment and breaking the movement down, either off the water for rowers or away from your usual training for other sports, helps you better understand what it is meant to ‘feel like.’ That way you can then go back and begin to apply it to your training, with a better understanding of what your body is meant to be doing.
This is one of the things exercise physiologists are great at. Identifying movement patterns and strength/ stability deficits. Then finding simple ways to help you improve those movements to improve your performance in sport.

A quick office and desk stretch for you all. A Figure of Four stretch is great to loosen the hips and stretch your gluts.
HOW? One leg over the other and lean in a little.
1. STATIC: Hold for 20 sec, lean in more and repeat by 3 each leg.
2. MOVEMENT: Change your legs over every 4 or 5 seconds and continue for 1 minute.
This is a great one to switch the kind off for a second, to refocus. Whilst also keeping your hips loose from sitting at a desk all day.

Did you know that participating in dance classes can help prevent or prolong the onset of dementia? Learning dance routines builds new neural pathways in the brain.
One study, published in the Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, compared the size of older adults brains who regularly participated in physical activity. The group who did line dancing had a significantly larger hippocampus, the area of the brain associated with memory, than the group who did a more traditional form of exercise class.
😂 We all need that extra-motivated friend to help keep us on track with our health and fitness goals!
If you’re struggling to get back into regular exercise, tee up a session with a friend so someone else is holding you accountable to turn up!
💡 Hot Tip!! - Tell your friend that if they can’t make it for some reason to message you at the time you were meant to meet!! So even if they don’t turn up you’re out the door and on your way!!
