Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 96 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting someone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

2026 tour 1 ✅

Our RFDS Schools Program is off to a flying start, bringing the aeromedical simulator to students across the South Burnett Region over the past three weeks.

These hands-on experiences inspire the next generation and highlight the vital role RFDS plays in supporting Queensland communities.

Who knows? We may have just met some future RFDS heroes! 👩‍⚕️🧑‍✈️😎

TW: Amputation ⚠️

This photo shares the flood of relief Kendall felt when the Flying Doctor retrieved her from an outback station after experiencing a horrific hand injury. 😮‍💨

Kendall was attending to her horses at 1am and while untying one of them, it spooked, and the rope severed off her finger. 🐎

Knowing they were hundreds of kilometres from a hospital, Kendall was helicoptered to the station's homestead where she was immediately linked to the Flying Doctor's care. 👩‍⚕️

Through our interconnected services, Kendall was able to access medical supplies from a RFDS Medical Chest, first aid instructions from a RFDS telehealth doctor and an aeromedical retrieval to hospital for surgery. 📞🧰✈️
