Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 96 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting someone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

Shout out to Cate and Garvina – our two engineering apprentices who have been accepted into our Licensed Engineer Aviation Program (LEAP). 👏 Read more: https://ow.ly/nQYk50XxUfF

Although they live at opposite ends of Queensland, they share the same dream of becoming licensed aircraft maintenance engineers to keep the Flying Doctor flying! ✈️

Thanks to LEAP, a program we launched in 2023 with support from donors and the RFDS Foundation, they are one step closer to their goal and are learning from some of the most experienced in our hangars. 🧰🛠️

What a night! Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Partnering for Impact end-of-year event last week.

A huge thank you to our principal partners Ergon Energy Retail, Brisbane Airport, QCoal Group, Woolworths and Rio Tinto, and our national partners, Isuzu UTE Australia and HCF Health Insurance Australia for your attendance and ongoing support.

This week we received a heartwarming donation from Dorothea, who hand-knitted more than 80 toys for children who are flown by the RFDS (Queensland Section). 👩‍👦🧸✈️

Dorothea lovingly knits one toy every night and regularly donates her creations to children's hospitals and those in need.🧶

When Boulia Shire Council CEO Shane Gray cracked his tooth on a Mintie - help wasn't too far away with the RFDS Mobile Dental Unit in town. 🦷🪥 Read more: https://ow.ly/JMjS50XtRLr

Shane was one of the 168 patients seen by the dental team that rotation who would have otherwise had to make a seven-hour return trip to Mount Isa for care. 🚙⛽

Thanks to support from the QCoal Group, QCoal Foundation and the Australian Government, our dental team can keep regional, rural and remote communities smiling by delivering oral health services closer to home. 😁

As temperatures rise, we're urging Queenslanders to be alert, calm and prepared for any unexpected encounters. 🐍
