Here at Experienced Mediators, we want your mediation experience to be a positive one. See our quick fire tips if you have an upcoming parenting mediation

Jot down your suggestions prior to your session: Being able to think quickly on your feet is a skill and an art. Sometimes dealing with such an emotional topic as your children this can be hard to do. Prepare some suggestions that you can use as part of your negotiations so you don't' feel "stuck".

Manage your emotions: It helps the mediation process as a successful avenue to resolve disputes if you can "manage your emotions" so you can put your emotions aside and focus on the issues and problem-solving. Managing your emotions may look like meditation, good rest, surrounding yourself with positive people, exercise, healthy diet, seeking help etc

Seek legal advice: It is important to seek legal advice during the mediation process to educate yourself on some legal aspects of your negotiation and understand your legal rights and responsibilities.

Minimize conflict with the other party: Commit to the mediation process by not engaging in conduct or "back alley" negotiations with your ex partner particularly if this will cause conflict or where you feel intimidation tactics may be used. Use the mediation process as your safe space to negotiate these issues.

Research and understand child development: Basic understanding of child development will help manage expectations for your child's stage of development and see any "red flags" that you should consider as part of your parenting plan.

If you have any questions about the above, we would love to assist. Contact us at www.xpmediators.com
