Caught up in training, getting some medical advice and work commitments and haven't posted for a bit. It's week 3 day 3 strength training completed so I created myself a timer for the upcoming HM event.

D5W2 of my program is a Strength Training session at my local PCYC. I have an undulating program starting with a warm up set and 3 strength sets with 5 repetitions starting with the leg muscle groups and finishing with some targeted leg muscle exercises (10 elements). Pictured getting ready for the warm up set of a rack pull.

Been awhile since I posted here as I was a little focused completing some studies last year and not really engaging with social media. Each year, I set myself goals, and those within my control I usually achieve. This year it started off early after getting my health clearance I committed myself to doing another Half Marathon. My first and last one was for my 60th Birthday present to myself. I completed it without any injuries and minimal recovery fatigue in 4 hours and 4 minutes. Training mainly by myself. However, I didnt quite get my Iron needs met (post-menopausal population requirement myth busted) and had to take Iron supplements for a considerable period of time afterwards to build my Iron levels back up again. A lesson learnt about making sure your nutrition and hydration is suitable for your individual requirements and not basing it on age and population-based recommendations. We all exist in unique bodies and its important to listen to yours and modify things to suit it. Writing this post alerted me to the fact I am fueling mysellf impulsively again and need to be more specific and measurable about it. Note to self; add a fueling sheet to my physical activity workbook. This year, my 62nd year, I am joining some others to complete the Hapalua, a half marathon (with no time constraints for us slower runners) on the beautiful island of Honolulu. https://www.thehapalua.com/
I am registered, all is booked to get there and I shall stay for a few extra days to recover and explore the island. Training commenced on the 23rd December 2024 and I have a very generous 16 week program mapped out for myself and anyone else in the crew who wants to use it. I have been completing my daily activities since then. I am reaching the end of week 2 with strength training tonight and a 6.5km run tomorrow starting with 1.5kms before Parkrun. I will be posting about some of my activities as I work towards preparing for this Half Marathon in April.

Hawaii's premier half marathon. Starts in Waikiki, Honolulu on April 13, 2025. No time limit - Aloha spirit - The happiest half!

It's been awhile. Spent some fantastic time on country and now I'm back working on another goal the Sunshine Coast 10k in August. 1st day back at running and surprised myself how ok my fitness is. Programmed an easy 1k run but I either could have run faster or longer.

Decided to be sensible and not travel to a Parkrun with all the storm warning. It gave me a chance to run with the crew.

Did two sessions in my Kayak today. Youngs Crossing in the morning and Tinchi Tamba Wetlands in the afternoon. Added swims in. Great way to keep cool, get out of the hot houses and explore.

Todays challenge was to combine a challenging Parkrun with Archery. The alarm went off I got up out of bed, several coffees, car already packed, jumped in it and drove 45 minutes to Oceanview Parkrun for my O (75% alphabet complete) then off to Samford to put my new toys together (another challenge) and test them out on the range. Some photos from today.

Today's conditions were much more favourable but the body felt fatigued. Maintaining the habit is important and finding the motivation whatever it might be. For me it's RnB beats in a good environment.
