It's been a busy year for us here at CulturalShift!
We've been working hard on quality improvement and have been so excited to promote Tori to a Team Leader role. Tori has been excelling in her new position, ensuring that every report is quality checked, and your Support Coordinators have mentoring, supervision and opportunities to debrief from those tricky moments. Don't be surprised to hear from Tori in coming months either, as she begins regular client check ins to ensure that we're hearing your compliments and feedback and continuing on our mission to offer the most exemplary Support Coordination service in South-East Queensland.

Behind the scenes I'm busy developing resources for every circumstance so that sticky situations can be resolved with higher efficiency and to ensure that our team can continue to grow, professionally and personally.

I'm so proud of where we started, how far we've come, and what's yet to transpire.

With thanks and a heart full of hope,

Ella.

Please share to help us to stay afloat and able to keep offering high quality support coordination πŸ™

We're seeing so many providers of quality support coordination closing their doors and their books because of the increasing wage pressures. In real terms including wages and overheads our costs have increased by a whopping 30% in the past 5 years without a single cent increase in the price guide or claimable work.

Here at CulturalShift we are still working to grow our team so that we can meet increasing desperate demand for high quality coordination, but we need your help in challenging this rate freeze so that we can invest in the futures of our valued clients πŸ’›

Let’s be clear about NDIS Pricing:

πŸ“‰ Prices are being cut in real terms for a 7th year in a row for Support Coordination and Plan Management.

❌ NDIS is not passing on the Fair Work Commission wage increase.

πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ These changes were made behind closed doors. People with disability, their families, and the providers who support them were not consulted.

β›” Critical supports are being devalued.

🚫 Support Coordination and Plan Management Prices are not based on a cost model and are not benchmarked against like services in Aged Care, Workplace Accident Schemes and Vehicle Accident Schemes.

Support Coordinators and Plan Managers aren't optional β€” they are essential. They support participants navigate an increasingly bureaucratic system, exercise their choice, amplify their voice, build capacity and ensure NDIS participants actually get the support they need.

We need transparency. We need fairness. We need a system that listens. We must

DIA urgently calls on the NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme to do the right thing and take immediate action:

1️⃣Pass on the 3.5% wage and 0.5% superannuation increase to Support Coordination and Plan Management pricing immediately (from 1 July);

2️⃣Reverse the cuts to establishment fees and rural/remote loading for Plan Management services;

3️⃣Reverse the cuts to provider travel so that services can be delivered in community settings not just clinics;

4️⃣Implement independent price setting. Only an independent pricing authority can set a transparent pricing model that accurately reflects the true cost of service delivery, including wage pressures, compliance costs, and the value of these services.

Over the weekend there will be a 36 hour outage for system changes to PACE. πŸ› οΈβ³οΈπŸ’₯

From Monday 19th funding periods will be operational. After this date, new plans can again be approved for durations longer than 12 months, as funding periods will be switched on. βœ…οΈπŸ“…πŸš€

New Funding periods will come into effect for new plans approved from this date - not for existing PACE plans. πŸ—“οΈπŸ†•οΈπŸ’‘

Whilst the NDIS can choose different funding period durations for individual plans, the default funding periods will be 3 months (quarters), and Home and Living funding periods would be 1 monthly (12 periods in a year). πŸ—“οΈπŸ‘πŸ‘

πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ *important claiming info* πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

If a category has insufficient funds available in a funding period to cover an invoice/claim, the entire claim will be rejected. πŸš«βŒβ—

If services / an invoice or claim crosses over two funding periods, you cannot submit as one claim - it must be submitted in line with the separate funding periods or will be rejected. πŸš«πŸ“…πŸ™…

Service agreements will need to align with funding periods which means that there will not be flexibility to claim from the previous period after it has rolled over. πŸ”„οΈπŸ—“οΈβŒ

πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ What to do to prepare πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

🀝 Insist on service agreements based off actual funding in each period. πŸ‘πŸ€πŸ’ͺ

πŸ“† Think hard about what you might need during the plan and ask for longer periods if needed. πŸ—“οΈπŸ€”πŸ‘

🚫 Do not let them do anything less than 12 month periods for support coordination and allied health services as these supports should be able to be responsive to crisis points and fluctuate depending on need. πŸš«πŸ—“οΈπŸ’ͺ

15/10/2024

On 3rd October 2024 new NDIS laws came into effect with regard to what NDIS funding could be used to purchase, and for what purposes.

One of the biggest impacts for many people with NDIS plans will be the rule that means you can only purchase funding for supports related to the disability that the NDIS found you eligible for.

We work with many people who are living with dual diagnosis, such as a psychosocial disability and a physical disability, but whom the NDIS only granted access for one or the other.

This means that even though the person needs support for physical needs and the NDIS may be providing supports for this, they are not able to purchase supports for the psychosocial disability which heavily impacts on how their support needs to be delivered.

If you or your loved one may be experiencing this issue, these are some steps that may need to be taken immediately:

1. Confirm which of your disabilities NDIS has given you access for
2. Have your treating specialist and/or GP provide evidence of any disabilities that the NDIS does not already recognise
3. Request for NDIS to consider assessing your eligibility for the additional disability as soon as possible
4. Link in other community initiatives and funding streams who may be able to support the need of the ineligible disability or impairment.

This process is not an easy one, and there is specific information that will need to be provided to the NDIS before they will consider eligibility.

CulturalShift can help with understanding the process, and helping you along the way, so please so not hesitate to reach out to Ella at ella@culturalshift.com.au or 0449848985 so we can help you get started straight away.
