“You do not just wake up and become the butterfly. Growth is a process.” — Rupi Kaur

This week marked five years since my burnout breakdown.

From the outside it looked abrupt — but internally, my body had been speaking for a long time. I just hadn’t been listening.

What followed wasn’t instant healing. It was therapy. Reflection. Boundary learning. Grief. Rebuilding identity. Slowly reclaiming energy and purpose.

Burnout didn’t end my story — it reshaped it.

If you’re navigating midlife exhaustion or burnout recovery, please know: growth often looks messy before it looks meaningful.

🌻 Take gentle care of you.

Today marks five years since my burnout breakdown.

It felt sudden from the outside — I stopped work quite abruptly — but really my body was speaking after I’d ignored the signs for too long.

Recovery involved a lot of reflection, support, and therapy. It wasn’t quick, and it wasn’t neat. But slowly I rebuilt in a way that honours my energy, values, and humanity more than before.

When I see Nick Petrie's burnout → post-traumatic growth work, it resonates. Sometimes the breakdown really does become a turning point.

I wouldn’t wish burnout on anyone. But I do want people in it to know: growth and reconnection can happen.

If you’re navigating burnout or a big life transition right now — I’m sending you gentleness 🌻🧡

Can we talk about patience for a moment?

Not the “just be patient” kind that feels dismissive…

But the kind you need when you’re healing from burnout and wondering why it’s taking so long.

If you’re in midlife and trying to recover your energy, clarity, or sense of self — this one’s for you.

I’ve written a new blog:
A Letter About Patience (Especially If You’re Healing from Burnout)

It’s gentle.
It’s honest.
And it might feel like a deep exhale.

You can read it here:
https://www.shannonaswales.com/blog/a-letter-about-patience-especially-if-youre-healing-from-burnout

If it resonates, I’d love to hear what part spoke to you. 🌻

A gentle reflection on patience after burnout for midlife women. Explore healing at a human pace, self-compassion, and letting go of urgency in recovery.

“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” 🌿
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Patience has been a quiet thread inside the Midlife Reclaimed Community this week.

Not the kind that waits to be chosen.
Not the kind that tolerates too much.

But the kind that allows us to slow down…
to stop performing…
to stop fixing…
to simply absorb.

Midlife can feel like a recalibration.
And what we need isn’t more pressure — it’s a compassionate space that can hold us.

That’s what Midlife Reclaimed is becoming. A sanctuary for midlife women who want to be with themselves — not constantly improving themselves.

If you’re curious, there’s a 7-day free trial.

🎧 New podcast episode out — Midlife Reclaimed: Midlife Burnout Support (Episode 66)

I want to share this one especially for the midlife women who quietly keep everything going for everyone else.

Maybe you’ve caught yourself thinking:

“I can care for everyone else… so why is it so hard to care for me?”

This episode explores caregiving, midlife burnout, and learning self-compassion without turning yourself into another project to fix.

If it resonates, I hope it feels supportive 🌻

I had the privilege this week of speaking with practitioners from All About Her — The Centre for Menopause about burnout in midlife women.

Sharing what I know, how I work, and being in conversation with others supporting women in this chapter felt deeply meaningful.

It also got me reflecting…

Pre-burnout me wouldn’t have done this.
Fear would have spoken louder.

Post-burnout me still feels a little anxious —
but it feels different now.
It’s connected to purpose, not avoidance.

Burnout reshaped a lot for me —
not all easy — but definitely clarifying.

I’d love to hear:

**Coming Home to Your Values in Midlife**
Thursday | 6pm AEST, QLD | Online

Midlife often brings a quiet reassessment:
What matters now?
Where do I want my energy going?
What feels true for this next chapter?

This isn’t therapy or a big motivational push — just a grounded space to reconnect with yourself.

We’ll explore:
• shifting values in midlife
• a guided reflective meditation
• journalling prompts you can reuse
• time for questions and integration

If you’ve been thinking about it — come along.
You’d be very welcome 🧡

There was a time in my midlife burnout where I felt disconnected from myself — constantly doing, giving, pushing… but not really *hearing* what I needed.

Journaling became one of the gentlest ways back.
Not perfectly. Not every day.
Just honest moments on paper that slowly helped me reconnect, make sense of what I was carrying, and begin shaping a more sustainable way of living.

That experience is why I created something simple to share with you.

✨ **A Gentle Invitation to Connect** ✨
If you join my mailing list, you’ll receive my free guided journal:

**Journaling as a Way Back to Yourself**

It’s designed especially for midlife women navigating burnout, change, or that quiet sense of “something needs to shift.”

Inside you’ll find:
• gentle prompts to slow down and listen inward
• space to reconnect with what matters to you
• support for creating a steadier, more sustainable life — one step at a time

And through the mailing list you’ll also receive calm reflections, practical tools, and updates about the supportive spaces I offer — all shared with care by someone who truly understands this season.

This isn’t about doing more.
It’s about making space.

If that sounds like something your nervous system would welcome, you’d be very invited to join.
