We had every intention of doing a tidy “first day with Lou” post on Tuesday…

…but between catching up, seeing clients, eating noodles and chocolates, and celebrating the fact that she started on her birthday (yes, really 😄), we completely forgot 🙈. Honestly, all good signs that she’s going to fit right in at Yin.

Since starting, Lou’s clients have been absolutely loving their sessions - and even better, they’re already rebooking for next week. Always the best feedback.

So while this pic isn’t from Tuesday - her birthday and first day - we promise we’ll share some snaps of Lou in our Yin space very soon.

If you’d like to meet Lou, she will be working Tuesdays and Saturdays, so jump online to secure a spot.

We’re so glad she’s here 🤍

One of the questions we’re often asked is:

“is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?”

The answer from the research is a very clear “yes”! When provided by a qualified, registered practitioner, acupuncture is considered safe at all stages of pregnancy. Studies consistently show no increased risk to baby or parent, with side effects (when they occur) usually mild and short-lived.

At Yin, all of our acupuncturists are AHPRA-registered with additional training in fertility, pregnancy and perinatal care. We support people from early pregnancy right through to birth, with confidence, care and evidence-informed practice.

If you’d like to dive into the research (or just feel reassured), our latest blog breaks it all down

We are so incredibly proud to share the beginnings of one of our client’s heartfelt projects - Wish for a Butterfly 🦋

These affirmation cards support women through fertility struggles, pregnancy loss, pregnancy after loss, and new motherhood - gentle, grounding words created from lived experience and reviewed by perinatal health professionals.

Being alongside her through fertility, loss and hope, and now seeing her with this beautiful baby, has been really special. Watching that journey shape something that supports others on similar paths feels very full circle.

You can check out Wish for a Butterfly online (wfab.org), or take a look at the cards in our reception area when you’re next in 🤍

So lovely to see this lived experience become a support for others.

In 2025, Australia released its first-ever national, evidence-based clinical guidelines for male infertility - something we feel is long overdue and incredibly exciting for couples navigating infertility.

Despite male factors contributing to around 50% of infertility cases, assessment has historically focused far more on women. Until now, Australia lacked clear, country-specific guidance for clinicians on how to properly investigate and manage male infertility. These guidelines finally help to address that imbalance.

What do the guidelines cover?
Published in the Medical Journal of Australia and developed by a multidisciplinary expert panel, they outline evidence-based recommendations across the male fertility pathway, including:

• When to investigate male fertility - and importantly, not to delay it
• A key recommendation that semen analysis be performed at the same time as female hormonal testing, rather than months (or years) later - women have historically been investigated much earlier than men
• Comprehensive history taking and physical examination
• Appropriate use of semen analysis, hormonal testing, imaging and genetic investigations
• Clear referral pathways and management options
• The importance of counselling and shared decision-making - and hopefully, shared responsibility

Why this matters:
Earlier and more thorough identification of male factor contributors can be game-changing. When underlying issues are recognised sooner, treatable or reversible causes may be addressed before jumping straight to ART.

This means:
• Some couples may conceive naturally once male factors are supported
• Others may still need ART - but often with improved s***m parameters and better outcomes
• Fewer couples being fast-tracked to IVF or ICSI without fully understanding the male side of the equation

The guidelines also highlight that male infertility can be an early marker of broader health concerns - reinforcing the importance of comprehensive, whole-body and integrative care.

This is a huge win for fertility care in Australia, and we’re really looking forward to seeing meaningful, positive changes for couples in the years ahead.

We’re so excited to officially welcome Lou MacGraw to the Yin team!

Lou is a degree-qualified acupuncturist with a background in naturopathy, and a real passion for supporting people through fertility, pregnancy and overall women’s health. She’s been mentored by some amazing practitioners, and we’re so excited to have her bring this knowledge to our team.

We feel so lucky that Lou is joining us - some of you may know her from , where she works alongside our alum, Kathryn. Lou brings a calm, thoughtful and deeply patient-centred approach that aligns beautifully with our values and philosophy.

We’ve loved getting to know Lou over the past few months - being treated to eggs from her chickens (yes, even blue ones!), discovering chocolate we probably shouldn’t have and meeting her lovely daughter along the way.

Lou will be at Yin on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting 3rd of February and bookings are now open. We’re so excited to offer more availability to our community!

Please join us in giving Lou a warm Yin welcome - we can’t wait for you to meet her in person!

Acupuncture can support male fertility by working with the body’s key reproductive systems.

Research shows acupuncture may positively support reproductive health by influencing the hypothalamic–pituitary–testicular (HPT) axis, which plays a central role in testosterone production and s***m development (1). By helping regulate this hormonal pathway, acupuncture may support healthy s***matogenesis and overall s***m quality.
Studies have also observed improvements in key s***m parameters, including motility and concentration (2), alongside reduced physiological stress on the body (3).

From a Chinese medicine perspective, treatment focuses on supporting Qi movement, Blood flow, and Kidney system function - all essential for healthy s***m production.

Acupuncture supports:
💪 Blood flow to the te**es
⚖️ Hormonal balance (HPT axis regulation)
🧘 Stress regulation and nervous system balance
⚡ Qi movement and overall vitality

S***m take around 10 weeks to develop, which is why we typically recommend weekly acupuncture sessions over this full cycle, when possible.

Men’s fertility deserves time, consistency, and care — and Manuary is the perfect time to start that conversation. For the month of January, we’re offering men’s initial fertility acupuncture appointments at the follow-up rate of $115 (usually $140).

Cold therapy gets talked about in men’s fertility for one simple reason: s***m are very temperature-sensitive.
S***m are produced best at around 2 - 4°C below core body temperature, which is why the te**es sit outside the body. Chronic heat exposure (think tight underwear, skins or lycra, laptops, prolonged sitting, cycling, hot baths and saunas) has been linked with lower s***m count, motility, morphology and increased DNA damage (1).

Gentle, short-term cooling may help by reducing excess heat and oxidative stress in the te**es, creating a more supportive environment for s***m development. This matters because s***m take around 2–3 months to mature. What’s happening now affects future s***m quality.

That said, cold therapy isn’t a standalone fix. Meaningful improvements in s***m health come from addressing the bigger picture - reducing heat exposure day to day, supporting the body with nutrition, managing stress, and using therapies like acupuncture to optimise circulation and hormonal signalling.

At Yin, we offer a range of Traditional Chinese Medicine and more modern techniques in our treatments for s***m health - acupuncture, electro acupuncture, low level laser therapy (photobiomodulation - ie no heat) and lifestyle advice as above.

Throughout January, we’re shining a light on men’s reproductive health - a side of fertility that’s (very) frequently overlooked.

To encourage proactive care, we’re offering men’s initial fertility acupuncture appointments at the follow-up rate of $115 throughout January (usually $140).

At an initial men’s fertility appointment, we take the time to understand the full picture. We’ll review any relevant s***m tests and blood results (bring these along if you have them), discuss your fertility goals, and talk through lifestyle factors that may be influencing s***m health. From there, we offer practical, realistic guidance tailored to your circumstances.

Your appointment will also include a treatment. Depending on your presentation, this may involve acupuncture, laser therapy and/or electro-acupuncture. We may also recommend specific supplements or Chinese herbal medicine, and refer on for further investigations if needed.

And just to clarify - there’s no need to worry about needles in intimate areas. Our approach is gentle, respectful, and focused on effective support. Treatments are designed to help regulate your nervous system, reduce stress, and support reproductive health - all while keeping you comfortable.

Announcing Manuary! 🥳🙌

Male fertility plays a role in up to 50% of fertility challenges, yet support for men often comes late in the journey.

Throughout January, we’re shining a light on men’s reproductive health - a side of fertility that’s frequently overlooked. We’ll explore how s***m health, hormones, stress, and lifestyle all play a role, and how Chinese Medicine can help create the best possible environment for conception.

If you and your partner are trying to conceive, keep an eye on our socials next month for gentle, evidence-informed tips on supporting s***m health.

Our Yin practitioners have spent recent years deepening our training in acupuncture and Chinese medicine for s***m health, integrating current research with advanced clinical education from leading mentors in the field. Through this evidence-informed work, we’ve developed a strong belief that men’s health deserves far greater attention within fertility care. Clinically, we’ve seen meaningful improvements, and research also supports the role of acupuncture in improving s***m motility, morphology, and hormone regulation (Zhou et al., 2024).

To encourage proactive care, throughout January we’re offering men’s initial fertility acupuncture appointments at the follow-up rate of $115 (usually $140).

We’re starting something a little different… a virtual book club! 📚

But don’t worry… no deadlines or pressure… just a space for us and our community to share and discover great reads.

We’re always talking about the joy of reading in our consults - the slow, mindful pleasure of getting lost in a good book (especially a hard copy that stops you doing other things… like unpacking the dishwasher or folding the clothes!).

Now we want to bring that conversation online, so everyone can find and enjoy amazing books.

Here’s how it works:
📘 We’ll share our book recommendations on our stories and save them in highlights so you can come back anytime.
📘 If you’d like to share your favourites, we’d love to hear from you! Tag us or use in your posts or stories, or send us a DM - we’ll make sure your recommendations are shared.

When you share, we’d love to know:
📚 Your rating (out of 5 - and yes, we do allow half stars… unlike Goodreads 👀 IYKYK)
📚 Genre
📚 What you loved about it
📚 If it reminded you of other books
📚 Any trigger warnings (especially fertility-related)
And if you’re coming into the clinic, don’t forget our little book swap nook at the end of the hallway - take a book, donate one, or swap a story you’ve loved!
