The festive season is officially here - along with Christmas parties, social events, and plenty of delicious food and drinks that might not usually be part of the routine you’ve been trying so hard to stick to.
For many, it’s also a time when stress and anxiety naturally rise. And if you’re trying to conceive, this time of year may feel even heavier.
We’ve put together some gentle, practical tips to help you prepare, protect your energy, and move through the season with a little more ease.
1. Expect an awkward conversation (or two)
Have a simple line ready for when someone asks why you’re not drinking or whether you’re “trying.” If you have a partner, agree on a response together so you feel supported and aligned.
2. Set healthy boundaries
Say no when you need to. A quiet night in may restore you more than another event. For gatherings you feel obligated to attend, consider arriving late, leaving early, or limiting how long you stay.
3. Find an accomplice
If there’s a friend you trust, let them in on your journey. Having someone by your side can help deflect questions, order non-alcoholic drinks, and offer emotional support when things feel overwhelming.
4. Share your feelings
Open up to your partner or someone close to you. TTC is a significant emotional experience, and you’re allowed to feel sad, frustrated, envious, overwhelmed - or all of the above. Your feelings are valid.
5. Manage your relationship with alcohol
Thankfully, non-alcoholic options have come a long way - wines, beers, mocktails, and everything in between. Find something you genuinely enjoy to make the choice easier. And if you do choose to have a drink, consider opting for low-alcohol options and keeping it to one or two.
6. Nourish your Yin
Prioritise whatever fills your cup: nature walks, movies, a massage, a day trip, meditation, or getting lost in a book. Yin-nourishing activities help balance the busyness and stimulation of the season.
We’re also here for you throughout the holiday period (excluding public holidays). ❤️
