Could I *BE* any more of an IBD dietitian?

As someone who is obsessed with (and currently rewatching) Friends, I just had to turn my favourite moments into IBD memes 🤭😂

Because sometimes humour is the best medicine *next to actual medicine, of course*

Make sure you SEND this to a fellow IBD baddie or SAVE it for when you need a smile!

A gentle reminder that your mental health matters 💛

Almost half of those living with IBD also experience anxiety and/or depression.

So, in honour of World Mental Health Day tomorrow, I thought I’d share some things that help fill up my cup 👇

MIND — reading, journalling, meditating, writing (and ticking off) my to-do list, getting outside, listening to music or a podcast 🎧🤍

BODY — eating mindfully, sleeping well, doing some feel good movement (for me, that’s either going for a walk or reform pilates) ✨🧘

SOUL — quality time with my partner and family, baking, cleaning, grocery shopping, watching comfort shows, soaking up the sun 🌞🧁

Here’s to prioritising us and what makes us happy because we are oh so worthy of showing up in this beautiful world as our best selves.

** Please know that you are not alone and that it is more than okay to ask for help.

SWIPE to find out why 👉

As a dietitian living with Crohn’s disease myself, I support my clients by:
✨ Monitoring their nutrition status
✨ Tracking their symptoms, labs and quality of life to optimise their overall health and wellbeing
✨ Helping them build a balanced diet and avoiding unnecessary supplements and restrictions
✨ Supporting them in feeling more in control of their IBD

If this sounds like what you need, comment or DM me “IBD123” and I’ll share how we can work together 💛

Life lately 💛

Between family time on the Sunny Coast, a Brissy staycay, 3 Sydney trips, a bunch of medical appointments, new clients, long walks, good food, and saying goodbye to my Papa — the past few weeks were filled with both love and grief 🥺

If there’s one thing this time has reminded me, it’s that life’s too short not to:
✨ Live the life you want to live
✨ Make time for what (and who) you love
✨ Eat foods you genuinely enjoy
✨ See the places you’ve always dreamed of

And if Crohn’s or colitis is holding you back from living *your* version of that life, comment “IBD123” below and I’ll see how I can help 👇

This week is Malnutrition Week ANZ ❤️‍🩹

You may be wondering why I’m sharing a photo of myself; I’m not malnourished?

But malnutrition is highly prevalent within the IBD community.

An estimated 25% of outpatients and 85% of inpatients with Crohn’s Disease are malnourished ‼️

Whether it’s due to intestinal inflammation, medications, symptoms or complications, having IBD can impact our body’s ability to properly digest food and absorb nutrients (which if not addressed, can lead to deficiencies and malnutrition).

Amongst the negative consequences listed on the second slide, IBD-related malnutrition can affect disease prognosis, increase complication rates, and impact quality of life.

So if you’re eating less than usual or notice any unintentional weight loss, please speak to your doctor or comment “IBD123” so I can assess your nutritional status and provide the support you need.

Live Fearless Challenge: livefearlesschallenge.com.au

According to the IBD State of the Nation report, more than one in three patients experience symptoms for over a year before receiving a diagnosis. Once diagnosed, 41% of people took more than 5 years to get their symptoms under control.

To achieve significant change and ensure people have equitable access to best practice, integrated care, the top 3 priorities for implementation by 2030 include:

Improving access to multi-disciplinary care,
Improving access to novel therapies, and
Investing in IBD research.

But to do so, we need your help. Funds raised through the Live Fearless Challenge directly support the IBD community by helping CCA invest in life-changing research, education, advocacy, and provide essential support services for people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

This month is Gut Health Month — a friendly reminder for us to to include more gut lovin’ foods in our diet 🥰

Why you may ask?

Because the science linking food, mood and gut health has never been stronger *good food (really does) = good mood*

Throughout the month of February, you can expect some gut lovin’ recipes and resources to nurture your body from the inside out ✨ as well as a VERY exciting announcement — coming soon 🤭

Day in the Life as a Dietitian and Digital Nomad living with Crohn’s Disease 👉

The ended about a week ago but I’ve been making a conscious effort to continue moving my body, when and where possible, in ways that make me feel good ✨

Every day looks different but usually something along the lines of ——

0700: coffee & admin
0800: morning movement
1000: journal & brekky with (DC: ELOISE)
1030: professional development with
1230: walk to lunch
1400: stop in at the farmers market on the way home
1430: afternoon workies
1800: dinner & unwind (usually involves watching Grey’s Anatomy)

This is what prioritising health and wellbeing looks like for ME and if that looks different to you, that’s okay! Please use this post as inspiration and listen to what YOU need to feel your happiest and healthiest 💛
