It honestly blows my mind how often people with IBD take nutrition advice from randoms on the internet..

Especially when nearly half of the posts on social media contain inaccurate nutrition information 🤯

A recent study analysing over 650 social media posts found that 44% contained inaccuracies, and a whopping 94% were rated as poor or mediocre quality (making claims not backed by science).

What’s more worrying is that these posts often had higher engagement, showing just how quickly and easily misinformation can spread online 🫠

The consequences?
❌ Cutting out entire food groups
❌ Developing fear around certain foods
❌ Wasting money on unnecessary supplements (some of which may actually worsen symptoms)

PLEASE take this as your sign to not go to your favourite influencer, Facebook groups or friends and family for nutrition advice. Whilst I’m sure they mean well, everyone with IBD is different and there is no one size fits all approach.

If you’re living with Crohn’s or Colitis and would like personalised, evidence based nutrition support, I’m here, as an Accredited Practicing Dietitian *living with Crohn’s disease* to help.

Convenient *IBD friendly* snacks 💛

If your appetite is low, you’re skipping meals because you’re wiped from fatigue or simply too busy juggling work and appointments, this post is for you.

Living with IBD means energy can be unpredictable, appetite and tolerance can change quickly, and cooking from scratch isn’t always realistic. And that’s okay.

So make sure you SAVE this post for those tough days when you need a quick and easy snack to meet you where you’re at.

They’re emulsifier free and prioritise fibre and/or protein 🙌

Important to note: these ideas aren’t designed to be universally flare-friendly. Everyone’s gut and “safe” foods are different. For personalised nutrition support, DM me “IBD123” 🤝

All products (except for which I personally love and purchase online) can be found (as at February 2026).

The silence really speaks for itself 🤭

In all seriousness, there’s no quality research or controlled studies supporting the supposed benefits of the carnivore diet.

It’s extremely restrictive and cuts out essential vitamins, minerals and fibre. Fibre in particular is linked to multiple health benefits, including a reduced risk of IBD flares!

It’s also typically high in saturated fat and sodium, which isn’t ideal for long-term heart health.

Some people may experience short-term benefits, often because the absence of fibre might initially reduce bloating and gas, but over time, it can cause constipation and other digestive issues.

Embracing a diverse diet rich in *both* animal and plant foods can provide the nutrients needed for a healthy gut and overall wellbeing.

Did you know that plant foods are given their own distinctive colour from special compounds called phytochemicals?

They act as antioxidants, mimic hormones and even suppress the development of some chronic diseases!⁣⁣

More specifically to IBD, they can help reduce inflammation and enhance our intestinal barrier.

🍎🍓🍅 red fruit and veg are coloured by lycopene which can help reduce our risk of cancer and heart disease ⁣⁣
🍊🍋🌽 orange and yellow fruit and veg are coloured by the carotenoids betacarotene and lutein, which can help promote healthy vision and cell growth (improving our bone and skin health)⁣⁣
🥝🍏🥦 green fruit and veg are coloured by carotenoids, indoles and saponins, all of which have anti-cancer properties⁣⁣
🍠🍇🫐 purple and blue fruit and veg are coloured by anthocyanin which can help reduce our risk of cancer, stroke and heart disease⁣⁣

Providing our bodies with a range of colours, not only looks and tastes great but ensures we receive a plethora of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, plant compounds and fibre (which are all vital for the health and maintenance of our bodies) 💪

If you’re in a flare or have trouble tolerating plant foods, try adjusting the texture to make them easier to digest. For example, instead of having a salad, try roasting or mashing your vegetables and instead of having a bowl of fruit, try having fruit smoothie.

My current breakfast on repeat ✨

Greek yogurt mixed with Digestive Protein Powder
+ Granola (with lots of different nuts and seeds)
+ Fruit (this changes with the seasons and cravings, but mango was on high rotation over Christmas)

I’ve been loving the Digestive Protein Powder as it’s packed with pre and probiotics to support my gut health, while also keeping me satisfied and energised all morning 💛

And for my friends with sensitive tummies, it’s also gluten-free and low in lactose.

Simple, nourishing, and actually delicious.. the kind of breakfast I never get sick of!
