Today is World Optometry Day, an opportunity to recognise the critical role optometrists play in protecting and improving eye health outcomes across Australia.
This year’s theme, “A shared vision, collaboration in eye care,” reflects something we see every day at Vanguard Health. Delivering meaningful outcomes in eye health relies on strong partnerships between optometrists, ophthalmologists, nurses, program teams and the communities they support.
Through our work in the IRIS program and in Weipa, we are committed to improving access to eye care in regional and remote areas. These programs are built on collaboration, ensuring patients can access screening, treatment and surgery closer to home.
This work is supported by experts like our own Georgia Bennett, our Ophthalmology Program Manager and Optometrist, who plays a key role in coordinating these services and ensuring care is delivered effectively across diverse and often complex settings.
When we work together, we reduce preventable vision loss and create lasting impact for communities that need it most.
We thank optometrists and all eye care professionals for the essential role they play in delivering better health outcomes across Australia!
