Today I wanted to share my Mandala with you. 🎨

I needed some Solar Plexus love this morning. This life is a journey and I'm so blessed to have the resources of Chakradance to not only support others but to also support myself.

🔥

Sometimes we need to draw on our masculine energy and to balance our Solar Plexus Chakra to come into our power. This beautiful shield of light came to me today in my dance, reminding me I have the courage and protection I need

💛 Within me
💛 With me
💛 Beyond me

What Chakra do you feel needs some love today?

The benefits of optimal (delayed) cord clamping are increasingly known and being practiced around the world.

Love this Christmas version highlighting it's benefits.

I am on leave now until the new year. Spending some much needed time with my own mum.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and 2023🎄

💦Let’s talk sterile water injection!💉

💫 Sterile water injections (SWI’s) have become increasingly popular over the last few years, but what are they?

💦They are a form of pain relief for labour which involves a small amount of sterile water injected under the skin of the lower back. This is done in 4 different locations and provides for up to 85% of women with back pain in labour effective pain relief. (Sterile water injections (SWIs) | Health and wellbeing | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au))  Lasting up to 2 hours.

🤔 So why would you want to consider this as a form of pain relief?

Advantages of SWI’s:

~ The effect is often immediate.

~ No effect on the consciousness of labouring mums.

~ No effect on baby.

~ Simple to administer by Midwives.

~ Labour progress is not adversely affected.

~ Labouring mums can remain mobile.

Disadvantages of SWI’s:

~ An intense stinging sensation is felt for approx. 30 seconds on administration.

~ This can be performed by Midwives during a contraction if you need a distraction.

~ May not be available in all places of birth

💦So how do you feel about using this as a type of pain relief?

🎈Have you used them?🎈

If ‘yes’, what was your experience?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.🗯️🗨️ Comment Below!

"Dr Sara Wickham is renowned for writing fabulous books full of evidence based information about options in maternity care.

How perfect that she has also written the ultimate guide to making decisions!”

I was really happy to read these words from Rachel Reed after I sent her a copy of the updated “What’s Right For Me? Making decisions in pregnancy and childbirth.”

As you might know, Rachel shares my passion for evidence AND for women and families making the decisions that are right for them.

It’s a happy thing to see any positive review – so thank you to those of you who are letting me know that you love the book – but when it comes from colleagues whose work you admire, like Becky and Rachel, it’s a bit special.

Thank you all for your support of this book. If you find it useful, please pop a review on Amazon or wherever you bought it … it really helps others to know that a book is worth getting 😊

This is the third edition of What’s Right For Me? Making decisions in pregnancy and childbirth.

It has been updated and expanded and you can find out more at www.sarawickham.com/me

I hope it helps you to make the decisions that are right for you.

This is so brilliantly written I just had to share it with you all.

💞 Knowing your options before birth can help you decide during birth. Gas and Air is used every day with great results and may be of benefit to you.

🌟Great thing about it is: if it isn't for you, then you can stop using it and the effects disappear quickly! 👣

Reposted from ✨Gas during labour ✨

One of your pain relief options if you are birthing at a hospital is gas or also known as Entonox. It is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. You use a mouth piece (as pictured) or a mask to breathe in the Gas. The gas then enters the lungs, and then is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. It passes around the body, reaching the brain within 15 seconds.

Benefits:
✔️It helps take the edge off the intensity/pain during a surge/contraction.
✔️It is easy to use, as you can inhale it during a surge/contraction through a mask or a mouthpiece.
✔️ You can maintain upright positioning during your labour.
✔️You can move around your birth space whilst using it.
✔️It can be used at any stage of labour.
✔️It can help manage/control your your breathing.
✔️ You can control how much you inhale/use.

Cons:
✖️You may feel a little nauseous, dizzy or light-headed.
✖️You may have dry mouth for a short time.
✖️It may cause you to vomit.
✖️It can sometimes make you feel drowsy.

It’s important to look at the risks and Benefits of any test, procedure or pain relief option in order to help decide what is best for you and your baby! I used gas during the early stages of labour with my son. Did you use gas during your labour?
