KAT IS NOW ON LEAVE AND WILL BE AWAY FROM THE CINIC UNTIL 29 SEPTEMBER!

I'm off on my first proper holiday in about 10 years. I'll be a little quiet on my socials until I return, except for a few pre-planned posts, or if I post some pics of my adventures.

HAVING TROUBLE FINDING THE SAMFORD VALLEY CLINIC?

I've had a few people tell me they've had a bit of an issue with Google and Apple Maps not liking the clinic address.

We're in the same complex as Dominos, Subway, and Spokes Cafe.

The best way to get to us is to come along Main Street, then turn onto Kath Fitzgerald Drive. Head up about halfway along, and you'll see the entrance into our car park. We're in the building with the pink arrow pointing to it.

10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR MASSAGE EXPERIENCE (PART 2):

5 - TELL ME ALL THE THINGS - I don't mean TMI kinda stuff, I mean all the things about what brings you in today, likes and dislikes with oils, scents, pressure, particular massage techniques, whether you do or don't want music playing, whether you want to chat or prefer me to shut up, allergies, recent surgeries, past accidents and injuries, medications, etc. The more I know, the better I can look after you.

6 - GIVE FEEDBACK - Please don't suffer in silence. If you're too hot/cold, tell me! If I'm using too much or not enough pressure, tell me! If you want different music - tell me! You're not being annoying, you're not going to make me mad. Ask questions, chat, crack jokes, communicate!

7 - BREATHE - I know sometimes the little reflex to hold your breath kicks in, especially when I find a nasty little spot. But maintaining steady and calm breathing goes a long way to helping your body and muscles relax. A neat trick is when I find a nasty spot, take some slow, deep breaths. This can help trick your body into thinking it's not quite as bad, and help you relax a bit more. Don't feel embarrassed if I remind you to breathe during your treatment - I hold my breath during massages too!

8 - BE IN THE MOMENT - it's easy to let our minds wander, especially when we're stressing about something. Try to stay in the moment during your massage. Give yourself the grace - at least for the duration of your treatment - to not think about all the icky things, and focus on something you enjoy. If it helps, we can chat about books, good food, funny things our pets have done, silly reels we saw on FB or IG.

9 - BE HYDRATED - Dehydrated muscles are sore muscles! Don't guzzle 2L just before your appointment - there's nothing worse than having to get up mid-massage because you need to p*e haha! The day before and the day of, make sure you're adequately hydrated by drinking a glass of water every hour or so. Quickly go to the bathroom just before you head to your appointment, or just before I take you in, especially if you've booked a longer appointment time.

10 - BE REALISTIC WITH YOUR EXPECTATIONS - As much as I would love to be able to fix everything in one half-hour massage, that's just not how it works. The body likes to do things in its own time sometimes, too. A chronic lower back issue of 30 years is not going to magically go away with one appointment. Also, please try to be realistic with what we can get to in your appointment. Expecting a full body massage in 30 mins is also just not feasible, nor is 90 mins on just your calves.

10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR MASSAGE EXPERIENCE (PART 1):

1 - BE OPEN AND RECEPTIVE TO MASSAGE - Have an open mind when it comes to massage. Coming in with an attitude of "massage is for girls" or "unless the massage hurts, it's not working" can set you up to not enjoy the massage before you're even on the table.

2 - DON'T EAT A 3-COURSE MEAL BEFORE COMING - Try not to have anything to eat for at least an hour before coming for a massage. Having a full belly while lying on the table + me pressing down on you can become uncomfortable very quickly. Have a light meal or snack, and then chuck something in your bag to eat afterwards.

3 - BE ON TIME - Being all frazzled and stressed because you're running late is no good. Aim to arrive at the clinic 5-10 minutes before your appointment time.

4 - DON'T BE EMBARASSED - I know getting practically naked in front of someone is unsettling, but to me, a body is a body, is a body. Hair doesn't bother me, moles and pimples don't bother me. Please feel free to let me know what you're most comfortable with clothing-wise, too!

CLOSED TODAY FOR THE EKKA PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Today is a public holiday for the City of Moreton Bay (Moreton Bay Regional Council), so I won't be in the clinic today - woo hoo for long weekends!

Don't forget that for everyone NOT in the Brisbane City Council area, this weekend is a long weekend.

City of Moreton Bay (Moreton Bay Regional Council), where both the Arana Hills and Samford Clinics are, will be closed on Monday

If you're heading to the Ekka - have fun! If you're taking advantage of the long weekend and going away - enjoy it! If you're going to rot on the couch with Netflix, a good book, and some snacks - be the best couch goblin you can be!

Come see me when we're back to business as usual on Tuesday.

Hello all!

Don't forget, in 4 weeks I'm heading off for a holiday.

It'll be my first proper away-from-Brisbane holiday in about 10 years, and I'm sooooo looking forward to it.

I'll be out of the clinic from 5:30 pm on Friday, August 29th, and will return on Monday, September 29th, at 8 am.
