One of the most important elements when working with nutrition is to address the whole person.

Think of yourself as a forest. Every element is important to collectively form and contribute to a harmonious forest ecosystem.

The soil is a foundation for plant growth, providing nutrients and support. The trees generate the air we breathe and prevent soil erosion. The insects help with pollination. Even the weather patterns determine which species can survive, and how the ecosystem functions over time.

All of the elements work together seamlessly, creating a balanced ecosystem. And if one part falls out of balance, it affects the entire forest.

The same is true for ourselves.

All aspects of your being – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual are interconnected and affect one another.

I've always wondered why nutrition gets so easily dismissed.

We don't neglect the type of fuel we put in our car, yet we compromise our own fuel (food) without a second thought.

I believe we all know better.

Your diet and food choices play an important role in regulating and balancing your hormones.

Foods can have direct effects on the actions and secretion of appetite hormones like insulin, ghrelin and leptin, which are all involved in your hunger and satiety levels as well as your blood sugar regulation.

The quality and type of food you eat, as well as the taste profile, quantity and timing of your eating patterns, can all affect your hormone production and balance.

Your quality of life depends on so much on your health and wellbing.

Women experience several transition across their lifetime, this month is all about that super fun time, Menopause!

Menopause is when you have your final period. Your periods stop because your ovaries don’t release eggs any more. but what else does that really mean for you and your health?

Menopause can happen naturally, at the expected age or early. Your periods can also stop unexpectedly due to premature ovarian insufficiency, surgery or cancer treatment.

Perimenopause is the stage before menopause, when your ovaries are running out of eggs. During this time, you mayt start experiencing symptoms of menopause, such as hot flushes, night sweats and mood swings. (see earlier post for more detailed list.

Management and treatment of menopausal symptoms will depend on your stage of life, relationships and general health and wellbeing.

You CAN and SHOULD learn more about menopause, the symptoms, causes, management options and where you can get help.

Menopausal symptoms often start before your periods stop.
They may be physical symptoms or emotional symptoms or a combination of both.

Irregular periods
Hot flushes and night sweats — are experienced by more than 1 in 2 females
Sleep problems — are experienced by about 1 in 4 people
Exhaustion and fatigue
Sore breasts
Itchy, crawly or dry skin
Headaches or migraines
Aches and pains
Bloating

You may also get bladder, va**nal and vulval problems, such as:

Dry va**na
Loss of libido (s*x drive)
Urinary (wee) problems
Mood Disturbances and fluctuations in your emotional health

You may simply notice that you ...

The average age at menopause is 51 years.

Menopause marks the end of the reproductive stage of your life.
