As National Diabetes Week 2025 comes to a close, Chris Owen, President of The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland, has reminded Queensland patients that they can turn to their community pharmacy for help managing all types of diabetes.

This year's theme, “A healthier future – for everyone”, resonates with the expanding role of community pharmacists in the prevention and management of diabetes. Mr Owen stated that the Queensland Community Pharmacy Chronic Conditions Management Pilot enables community pharmacists across the state to work with patients to manage their diabetes.

"Under the Pilot, participating community pharmacists are now initiating and adjusting medications, ordering pathology, and providing ongoing care in collaboration with GPs and specialists."

Following more than 3,300 flu cases recorded in the past week, Queensland Guild Branch President Chris Owen joined Minister for Health and Ambulance Services the Hon Tim Nicholls MP and Professor Paul Griffin (on behalf of the AMA Queensland) to urge Queenslanders to get vaccinated against the flu.

Getting the vaccine means you are about 60% less likely to need treatment for the flu and is a quick, easy, and free way to protect your loved ones.
