The Queensland Guild recently hosted the inaugural Drive to Prescribe Networking Event, bringing together prescribers, students, and industry professionals for an evening of connection and conversation.

Attendees from around the state came to share their experiences, strengthen professional networks, and acknowledge the important role prescribers play in shaping the future of pharmacy. The event also provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the journey of prescribers and those in training, and the significant progress in scope expansion.

Last week, the Queensland Guild presented Malcolm Anderson with a certificate to recognise his life member status, and his outstanding service to communities in Far North Queensland.

For nearly 40 years, Mal has served communities across the region as a trusted pharmacist and business partner. An early pioneer in compounding, health foods, sleep apnoea, and medicinal cannabis, Mal is as passionate as ever about delivering great patient care. He takes great pride in having mentored dozens of pharmacists throughout his career.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s National President, Professor Trent Twomey, and Queensland Guild Branch President, Chris Owen, visited Mal in Cairns to celebrate the milestone, and were joined by Deputy Mayor of Cairns, Brett Olds.

The Queensland Guild recently joined James Cook University (JCU) to celebrate key milestones and outstanding achievements at the 2025 JCU Pharmacy Awards and Welcome to the Profession Ceremony.

First-year Pharmacy students from Townsville, Cairns and Mackay proudly stood together to recite the Oath of a Pharmacist, marking their official welcome into one of Australia’s most rewarding and impactful health professions.

The Queensland Guild proudly sponsors three prizes as part of an ongoing commitment to support the future of community pharmacy and young pharmacy professionals across Queensland.

Congratulations again to this year's recipients:
- Cal Thornley and Jasmine Boyd, each awarded The Pharmacy Guild Queensland Branch President’s Award for demonstrating leadership, vision and an innovative approach to pharmacy over the course of their studies.

- Connor Wales and Mitchell Westcott, each awarded the John Savina Award in recognition of their academic achievements and service to fellow students, the School, and the profession.

- Micquaela Apap, recipient of The Pharmacy Guild of Australia Community Pharmacy Practice Award, for having the highest overall achievement in subject PC2100, which encompasses a significant amount of counselling and clinical pharmacy practice skills to acquired therapeutic content.
