Every Thursday, the music is loud, feet are tapping, and arms are moving in rhythm as our Duhig Village residents join Katrina, our dance and movement specialist, for the “Goldies” dance sessions. 💃

The “Goldies” group started with four residents living with Parkinson’s, who wanted to share the benefits of movement with their neighbours. Today, it’s a regular, uplifting session enjoyed by many, boosting mobility, confidence and connection. 💛

From timeless classics to upbeat favourites, each session is filled with laughter, singing and a wonderful sense of community. 🎶 At Duhig Village, the Goldies show us that age is no barrier to the joy of dance! ✨

Recently, we had the joy of celebrating an incredible milestone for our Sunshine Coast Home Care clients, Laurel and Richard Dumbrell – their 75th wedding anniversary! 💖

Over the years, Laurel and Richard have shared a deep love and generosity that extends to their two daughters, grandchildren, and now their great-granddaughter Willa. ✨

Their journey together has been just as inspiring as their love story. Richard’s 52-year career in the oil and gas industry earned him an OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia) in 2009 for his service and leadership. Meanwhile, Laurel pursued her passion for words, earning a BA in Communication and later inspiring others through her writing and teaching – achievements that earned her a Bicentennial Medallion in 1988.✍️🏅

After 75 years side by side, Laurel and Richard continue to be an example of deep love, shared purpose and lifelong partnership. From all of us at Southern Cross Care, congratulations on this beautiful milestone! 💐

🎶 “I like to Move It, Move It!” 🎶

This year, our Lifestyle teams have been bringing "Move It" to life across our aged care homes – a wellness program that gets everyone up, active and smiling together. 💪

From gentle stretches and dancing to balloon tennis, boxing, and even Nerf gun target shooting 🎯 – there’s something for everyone! Some homes have taken it even further with dance therapy at Duhig Village, tai chi at Edens Landing and St Annes, and parachute games at Murgon and Caloundra.

Some homes have even welcomed local school children to join in, creating lively intergenerational sessions filled with fun, energy and plenty of smiles.

A huge thank you to our amazing Lifestyle teams for inspiring movement, connection and joy every day. Because at any age, when we "Move It", we feel better, think better and live better. ✨

Last month was a truly special one for our beautiful support worker, Ornpapha, at Sunshine Coast Home Care. Not only did she celebrate her 1st anniversary with us, but she also became an Australian Citizen! 🇦🇺✨

Originally from Thailand, Ornpapha says her first year at Southern Cross Care has been like joining a second family. “I’m happy every time I come to work. I have an understanding manager, supportive colleagues and the opportunity to assist the elderly people in our community,” she shares.

Her advice to anyone beginning their aged care journey is simple yet powerful: “Have a passion for helping others.” 🤗

Congratulations Ornpapha! We feel so lucky to have you as part of our Southern Cross Care family. Here’s to many more wonderful years together! 🎉

Recently, our residents at Murgon and Nanango aged care homes were treated to a very special visit from Elvis! From the moment he arrived, the music, laughter and excitement were nonstop. Residents sang along to all their favourites, enjoyed a chat with the King and took plenty of photos to remember the morning. 📸✨

One of our lovely residents, Peggy, thought, “It’s now or never”, and didn’t miss the chance to snap a photo with Elvis, creating a memory she’ll treasure forever. 💛

It was such a joyful day to celebrate music, memories and the simple pleasure of sharing a laugh and a song together. 🎶

After visiting our Queensland aged care homes, retirement villages and home care communities, it was finally Broken Hill’s turn to welcome our CEO Jason Eldering and leadership team for our annual Listen First sessions this month. 🙌

These gatherings are always special; it's a chance to pause, connect and hear directly from the people at the heart of Southern Cross Care. Residents shared their experiences, stories, and hopes for the future, and in return, Jason and the team shared updates and heartfelt gratitude for the trust placed in our care. ✨

We’re so grateful to everyone in Broken Hill who welcomed us and shared their thoughts. It’s moments like these that remind us why our mission will always be about people, connection and growing communities where best lives are lived. 🤗

Four of our metropolitan aged care homes were recently honoured to welcome First Nations artist, Wendy Rix Artist, for a hands-on art workshop. 🎨🖌️

Over morning tea, Wendy shared stories of her culture and creative journey, while guiding residents and staff to create their own meaningful pieces of art. Even those who had never considered themselves “artistic” found joy in the experience, and everyone left with a unique piece of art to treasure. ✨

Each artwork reflects its own stories, family connections and cultural significance, which makes the session not just about creativity, but also about sharing and celebrating the richness of indigenous culture. 🌟

We feel so grateful for these moments that bring our community together, inspire curiosity, and celebrate the power of art to connect us all. 💙

We are thrilled to announce that Southern Cross Care has been awarded $50.6 million under the Australian Government’s Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP) to build a brand-new residential aged care home in Broken Hill. 🏡🎉

This once-in-a-generation investment will transform aged care in the region, with around 90 new beds and modern community facilities. It means improved access to quality care close to home, and welcoming spaces where older people can live with dignity, connection, and the support of family and community.

This is about more than bricks and mortar, it’s about building a place where every person matters and where best lives are lived. 🌟

We are deeply grateful to the Federal Government for their support and trust, and we’re honoured to deliver this project for the Broken Hill community. 💙💛

Our recent Home Care community lunches in Jandowae and Tara were truly special occasions, bringing together over 90 guests across both events. Clients, families and friends from near and far came together to share stories, laughter and enjoy delicious food prepared by our Guest Chef, Chris Willis. 👨‍🍳✨

We were honoured to welcome special guests Francis and Josephine from the SCC Board, along with residents from Tarcoola, who joined us to celebrate the First Nation peoples and community spirit. A heartfelt thank you to our guests in Jandowae from Maudu Collective, Rainbow Warrior, Wambo Wind Farm, Gwandalan Support Services, and Business Navigator Western Downs – your presence made the day even more memorable. 🌟

These lunches are a wonderful reminder of the joy of sharing a meal, making new friends, and strengthening the bonds that make our community so special. 💛💙

Last month, we’re proud to recognise and celebrate the incredible dedication of our Support Centre staff members who have reached significant work anniversaries – 5, 10, 15, and even 20 years of service! 🌟

Each milestone represents years of passion, teamwork and contribution to our mission of delivering compassionate care.

Thank you to each of our staff for your loyalty and for embodying the values of Service, Courage and Compassion. We are grateful for everything you do and look forward to celebrating many more milestones together! 💙

What a joyful day it was at our Raceview home! 🎶💃 Residents and staff were transported back in time with a fabulous 80s concert, complete with all the classics that had toes tapping and smiles all around. It was nice to see everyone dressed in bright colours, singing along and sharing in the fun memories.

The day was made even more special as we farewelled our much-loved Pastoral Carer, AnneMaree. 💐 Over the years, AnneMaree has walked alongside so many in our community with kindness, compassion and a listening ear. She will be dearly missed, and we wish her every blessing as she begins her next chapter. 💕
