Lest we forget…

New research suggests assertiveness can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Assertiveness can also improve self-esteem and self-confidence.

Here's just one of the "Facts Neuroscientists Agree On" from Michelle's book: It's smudgy.

Why do I love this?

I love to encourage parents and carers to prioritise getting to know the child they've been given, kind of like a gift you get to unwrap and learn about. I also love to encourage parents and carers to trust themself to know their kids and make parental decisions based on what they know of their kids e.g., your child/tween/teen may be ready for something well before or well after other kids the same age. And finally, I love this quote because it encourages us all to refrain from comparing our kids to other kids, and just focus on what we know to be true for them.

I talk about this a lot in session. This is a great resource.

Stand Like a SuperHero.

One of the things I love about being a therapist is learning not just about the mind and emotions but about the body too. Bodies, brains, central nervous systems – they are amazing and when you learn about them you can learn to “hack” them.

Did you know that you can change your emotions and biochemistry and feel more confident and powerful just by changing the way you stand?!

What a fantastic strategy for you .... and for your kids, especially if they are feeling a bit nervous about the upcoming start of the school year.

Read this blog to find out more, and help your kids to learn and practice this strategy - it could be a great way to start their morning off before heading out the door to school.

And if you have a young person who really struggles with worries and anxiety about going to school, this blog by Karen Young is for you

With school about to restart here in my home state of Queensland, I know that some kids will be excited to get back into it – even if just to see their friends more 😉 – and some kids and teens will be not so keen and even feeling some anxiety about the start of school.

If you are a parent or carer of a young person who is feeling some anxiety this blog by Karen Young is a fantastic resource for you. It helps with understanding anxiety and how to support your young person.

Sending a little extra love to anyone who isn’t feeling festive this season.

To those of you the ones who are tired of being strong, carrying too much, navigating change, healing and recovering. For those spending the holidays alone and maybe missing someone. For those who feel alone or don’t quite fit the “merry” mood everyone expects.

You don’t have to force joy to be worthy of love.

You don’t have to be something you’re not to prove you’re okay.

You don’t have to “be” anything. It’s enough to show up as you are.

As I always say - try to be kind and compassionate with yourself. Try to savour the small moments - a warm smile with a stranger, your favourite music, a film you love, a warm drink. Treat yourself with compassion and kindness. Take it one breath, one hour, one kind choice at a time.

With love
Fiona
