PCOS Has a New Name: PMOS

This news was released a few weeks ago. This changed was a hallelujah moment for everyone in holistic health, because we always viewed the condition to be more than what was just happening in the ovaries.

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome better reflects the wide-ranging metabolic, hormonal, and reproductive factors involved, including:

✨ Insulin resistance
✨ Irregular menstrual cycles
✨ Ovulation challenges
✨ Weight management difficulties
✨ Inflammation
✨ Increased risk of metabolic health concerns

The updated terminology acknowledges that this condition affects the whole body, not just the reproductive system.

🌱 From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, PMOS is viewed as a pattern of imbalance involving multiple organ systems. Common presentations may include Kidney deficiency, Liver Qi stagnation, Spleen Qi deficiency, and the accumulation of Dampness and Phlegm.

Acupuncture is increasingly being used as part of an integrative approach to PMOS management. Treatment is tailored to the individual and may support:

✔️ Menstrual cycle regulation
✔️ Ovulation support
✔️ Stress management
✔️ Healthy blood flow to the reproductive organs
✔️ Metabolic health goals
✔️ Overall wellbeing

Every person's experience with PMOS is unique, which is why a personalised treatment approach is so important.

At Lang Acupuncture & Holistic Health in Brisbane, we take a holistic approach to reproductive and hormonal health, supporting patients with evidence-informed Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.

Be mindful of practitioners who claim they are “healing” you.

True healing doesn’t come from someone outside of you — it comes from your body, your choices, your awareness, and your willingness to reconnect with yourself.

A practitioner’s role is to guide, support, educate, and provide evidence based tools that help create the right environment for balance to occur. But ultimately, your body holds the wisdom, and you are the one doing the deeper work.

At Lang Acupuncture and Holistic Health, this is the perspective we take. Our intention is to guide and support you in developing a deeper understanding of your body, your patterns, and your health, so you feel empowered to maintain greater balance and wellbeing and not become dependent on ongoing treatment forever.

The most empowering practitioners won’t make you dependent on them forever — they’ll help you reconnect with yourself 🌿.

What are your thoughts on this? We would love to hear it!

There was a time when I thought healing, success, and happiness would come from doing more. More productivity. More rushing. More proving. More pushing past my body, but the slower I’ve learned to live, the more I’ve actually started to feel my life again.

Slow mornings.
Eating without multitasking.
Listening to my body instead of overriding it.
Creating space between appointments.
Letting rest be enough without needing to earn it.

A slower life isn’t laziness. It’s nervous system safety.
It’s presence. It’s remembering that we are not machines designed to constantly produce.

So much of healing begins the moment we stop rushing ourselves through our own existence.

"Nourish the soil before planting the seed" is a very well known quote in Chinese Medicine. It speaks of the importance of overall body health before trying to conceive. This is not just everyday general health standards, this is about hitting standards that are more supportive of fertility outcomes. Yes the ranges we look at would be different.

It takes 90 days from start to finish for the development of an egg. You have to add in the time it takes for you to gather data as to what your baseline is, plus also the time it takes to get into a good routine supportive of a healthy body too. So 90 days plus however many days it takes for you to implement the good habits.

To ensure the lifestyle changes are specific to what your body needs, don't just wing it. Get guidance based on the data and diagnosis of where your body needs. That is why it is important to see the right practitioners for guidance.

Our acupuncturists are degree qualified acupuncturists with continued professional development to support you in your fertility journey. If you'd like to explore a holistic and guided perspective we are here to help.

So many of us are living in a state of urgency. Fast paced living and working is glorified, but your body does not heal when it is highly activated.

Sometimes the start of learning what the body needs, is by first learning to slow down and listen.

Understanding what your body is telling you through the language of hair.

Changes in hair is one of the first parts of the body they notice first.

In TCM, hair is an extension of Blood. It is also connected to our deep internal resources. Often when changes in hair occurs, it's due to a deep depletion internally. Often there is a connection to high levels of stress or energetic demand that deplete these resources. In order to support healthy hair growth, not only would we work on building deficiencies in the body, but also supporting the nervous system too.

Having said that, you cannot out treat a lifestyle and environment. So part of the journey is also slowly working towards reducing aspects of your life that add to the depletion of your resources.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) there is a very strong connection between the way the body imbalances and how our mind functions. From the level of focus, clarity, efficiency of processing, resilience etc. All these components that correlate to the mind, can be influenced by how balanced the physical body is. The mind and the body is connected.

If you were wanting to work out why you have brain fog, let's check in with the body. If you are having trouble focusing, let's check in with the body. If you have been feeling chronically anxious, let's check in with the body. Part of the journey is gaining a better understanding as to why things are occuring from all perspectives..
