PCOS Has a New Name: PMOS
This news was released a few weeks ago. This changed was a hallelujah moment for everyone in holistic health, because we always viewed the condition to be more than what was just happening in the ovaries.
Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome better reflects the wide-ranging metabolic, hormonal, and reproductive factors involved, including:
✨ Insulin resistance
✨ Irregular menstrual cycles
✨ Ovulation challenges
✨ Weight management difficulties
✨ Inflammation
✨ Increased risk of metabolic health concerns
The updated terminology acknowledges that this condition affects the whole body, not just the reproductive system.
🌱 From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, PMOS is viewed as a pattern of imbalance involving multiple organ systems. Common presentations may include Kidney deficiency, Liver Qi stagnation, Spleen Qi deficiency, and the accumulation of Dampness and Phlegm.
Acupuncture is increasingly being used as part of an integrative approach to PMOS management. Treatment is tailored to the individual and may support:
✔️ Menstrual cycle regulation
✔️ Ovulation support
✔️ Stress management
✔️ Healthy blood flow to the reproductive organs
✔️ Metabolic health goals
✔️ Overall wellbeing
Every person's experience with PMOS is unique, which is why a personalised treatment approach is so important.
At Lang Acupuncture & Holistic Health in Brisbane, we take a holistic approach to reproductive and hormonal health, supporting patients with evidence-informed Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.
