This recent research that has come out shines a light on the importance of ensuring s***m health is as optimal as possible. It is not uncommon for women to blame themselves for poor fertilisation rates or outcomes when it comes to IVF and ICSI cycles.
In this 2025 study by Torra-Massana etc al., a retrospective cohort study was conducted where 13632 oocyte donation ICSI cycles were included (derived from 7444 controlled ovarian stimulations of 2963 unique donors).
In summary, the study found that of the cases that had poor fertilisation rates, male factor-related factors contributed to 84.1% of those cases.
That just emphasises the importance of ensuring s***m quality is up to standard and that women can't do it on their own!
