One of the most common areas we treat is shoulders!

In particular, the rotator cuff keeps us very busy.

📍Pain location - upper, outer arm (the red area in the photo)

🙆‍♀️What gives you pain - reaching your arm up, putting your hand behind your back (e.g. doing the bra strap up)

"Rotator cuff related shoulder pain" includes these problems:
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy
- Bursitis
- subacromial pain/ Impingement

Other things that may be going on
- Frozen Shoulder
- Arthritis

Assessment:
- Physios can diagnose your shoulder very easily during your session
- You don't need scans done before seeing us
- You will rarely benefit from injection (very low success rate)

Treatment
- Our hands-on techniques will normally provide good pain relief during your session
- We use other techniques such as taping, dry needling and exercise to also give pain relief

How long will it take for you to feel better?
- You'll notice very good pain relief starts within 1-2 weeks. Once your shoulder is feeling better, the focus switches to strengthening your tendons and muscles.
- Proper rehabilitation requires 3-6 months of progressive strengthening.

Back pain is debilitating! Sudden or acute back pain is described by most of our patients as "worse than childbirth". On average, severe back pain can last 4-6 weeks (with some people experiencing pain for months).

Toolbox tips for how to manage it:
- Physiotherapy (hands on techniques, mobilisation, dry needling, advice on appropriate exercise
- Stretches
- Heat pack
- Creams (e.g. Fisiocrem)
- Back belt (Serola SIJ belt is a lifesaver!)
- TENS machines

Your physio's role:
- Determine severity of your back pain (e.g. do we need to send you to hospital or for imaging)
- Treat the pain
- Help progress you into comfortable movements
- Monitor any neurological concerns (such as pins and needles or numbness)

Once the pain has backed off, we will help you make the back strong and tolerant so that we can attempt to avoid another severe flare up in the future!

🚖 Council Cabs is a shared transport service designed to help residents who find it difficult to access essentials like grocery shopping, banking, or the post office get around.

The service runs on set days and times, taking eligible users to and from local shopping centres. Each one-way trip costs just $1–$2.50, payable to the driver.
