As a student herbalist it is so great to come across dried herb blends during my study time that I get to try out on my dogs. The information I am learning through this time is invaluable. My dogs are so lucky to get the benefits of my work.

Milo is a 10-year-old Rottweiler with some pretty painful arthritis and hip dysplasia, I am always on the lookout for natural products or medicines that will help manage her pain and keep her moving. For a 10 year old big dog she is doing an amazing job of aging gracefully even though there is pain involved for her she is happy and still loves her walks and plays like a puppy most days.

This blend works as a systemic support formula for Chronic Arthritis. It uses dried herbs as a food supplement. This is my second batch for Milo. When we ran out of the first batch I made, I noticed she wasn’t as comfortable as what she was while she was on the herbs, so that is a pretty good indication for me that they were helping her more than I originally thought.

This mixture is made up of dried Alfalfa, Calendula flowers, Dandelion root and Parsley. All of these herb’s help support liver function and the digestive system two of the main areas of the body that generally need help, especially in aging animals.

Alfalfa has properties that are nutritive, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and diuretic. It assists the musculoskeletal system, the digestive tract and the liver.

Calendula has properties that are anti-inflammatory, astringent, antibacterial and a liver stimulant.

Dandelion root has properties that are liver stimulating, nutritive, anti-inflammatory, helps to improve digestion and is an excellent tonic.

Parsley has properties that are nutritive, helps to reduce arthritic inflammation, helps to reduce intestinal gas, diuretic, and insecticidal and antimicrobial.

Please Note that these herbs are generally safe to use with your animals, but you do need to see a trained Animal Herbalist or Animal Naturopath to help work out the correct dosages for your animal. All animals are individuals and need specific blends that work for their conditions and their size.

I would like to introduce you to an amazing being.
This is Elding.
Elding is an Icelandic horse living here in Brisbane with one of my clients.

My client is Eldings current caretaker and was feeling the need to check in with her to see if there was a connection between them and also to do a general health check.

Elding is happy and healthy on the outside, sometimes sessions are not always about physical health, but they generally touch on healing on a deeper emotional/spiritual level, this was one of those sessions.

Horses are known to have a strong electromagnetic field around their hearts, which can influence human heart rhythms and promote feelings of calm and well-being in the people interacting with them. Elding shares her heart resonance freely. She loves all beings but especially people and wishes for people to feel her connection.

Elding had a lot to say and a lot of messages to share. She has lived many lives as different breeds and types of horses from cart horses, war horses, happy horse to sad horse and even a life as a donkey, she remembers them all and is at peace with her lives. This current life she is all about leaning into the wisdom of those lives and clearing the cellular memories and energies that have remained embedded from these lives.

Sessions like this one are both for the human client and the animal. The messages that come through will resonate for the human client while the clearing work of the Kinesiology works on clearing the old and stagnant energies for the animal to move forward on their evolutionary growth journey through life.

Elding's main message was to let go and find the joy in life just like she has done in her current life. Find the beauty in the crazy life we live. Life is good! To live is to grow, living is experience and experience both the good and the bad gives us growth.

This session had a huge impact on me while I was working with her. It is an absolute honour to work with beings that share so much love and wisdom. The animal kingdom is truly amazing when you step into their world and let down your barriers.

Here in Brisbane it is wet, wet, wet after cyclone Alfred 🌧️💨🌧️💨 finally crossed the coast. Two days of heavy winds and rain and looking like we will at least have a few more days of rain yet. Monty is starting to go stir crazy. Milo is happy to sleep the days away but Monty needs to blow off steam and let some of his energy out.

So what to do when it’s too wet to play outside, and there is a high risk of them getting hurt when they play in slippery conditions……………🐾☔️🐾

Enrichment fun inside of course. 🐾😊🐾

Of course it is easier to play indoors for little dogs than it is for big dogs like mine. But when they can’t play or walk outside to blow off steam try treat searches. Most dogs love treat searches no matter how old they are or how big or small they are

Today I did a sniffing treat search, hiding small pieces of chicken treats all over the house downstairs for them to find. It lasts about 20 to 30 mins of them seriously using their noses to find the chicken goodness.
My guys are used to treat searches like this so I have to get creative so they need to work a little harder, (when you start out make it a little easier until they understand what you are asking them to do). They generally catch on very quick. It is surprising just how much this settles them and allows them to relax. My guys are usually comatose after a good search game for hours after.

To change it up a bit over a few days use different items that you can find in your home recycle bin. You can turn some of your clean rubbish in to fun activities that can help your dog blow off some energy and also tire them out mentally so they can really let go and relax. It also really helps lower cortisol levels and brings down any stress they might have been feeling from the constant winds and rain.

🐾 Empty milk containers, with the lid off and treats inside these can also be hung on a string so they rotate to empty the treat out.
🐾 Empty toilet rolls, with the ends folded over that can be chewed open
🐾 Empty eggs cartons, that can be chew and ripped up for the treat inside
🐾 Large cardboard boxes with flaps they need to go through to get a treat.
🐾 Kong toys (make sure they are size appropriate)
🐾 Snuffle mats, with treats hidden inside
🐾 Lick mats, with dog safe peanut butter on it
🐾 Small toy road cones with the end plugged with paper they have to pull out.

The list can be endless, use your imagination to help stimulate your dog. Note: Every thing you use, make sure you consider the safety of your dog. Make sure there are no chemicals on boxes or cartons, no left over plastics they could be harmed by, and no small pieces like milk bottle lids they could chew and swallow.

Pics below are of Monty as a puppy and Milo teaching him how it is done. Monty is now 7 years old and still loves his treat searches.
Last pic is tonight after they searched for treats for 30 mins. Flat out and super relaxed.

A big cyclone is bearing down on Brisbane where I live. Cyclone Alfred is the first cyclone to hit Brisbane in over 50 years. Right now it’s all about the preparation and waiting until the storm hits on Thursday.

It is vital in the prep work of getting the yard and the house ready to weather the storm, to remember to provide for your pets whether dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs or fish. For people we have our go bags in case we need to leave in a hurry, your pets need the same. Being prepared means a little less stress.

Pet prepping

🐾 Make sure your pets have a safe space inside and you know where they are at all times.

🐾 Have a large spare bucket of fresh water that is just for them.

🐾 Have collars on pets with name tags, and phone numbers. Just in case you get separated at any time.

🐾 Have the leads, carriers etc ready to go and easy to grab at a moments notice.

🐾 Have foods (dry foods) and any medications in zip lock bags in a go bag with important details like vet phone number, home address, your name and number. If feeding a raw diet have a little esky that you could put food into to take with you if needed. Food and water bowls or containers that can be used for bowls.

🐾 While still at home have your tool kit ready to help your pet with any anxiety or storm fear, for example Emergency essence, traumeel, herbal formulas, thunder jacket, any anxiety meds they may need.

🐾 Explain to them what is going on and why you are a little anxious and doing all this prep work. They will understand.

🐾 If you know your dog is reactive make sure you have a muzzle if you need to be around strange people or other dogs. (This would be important if needing to head to a shelter if your home has been flooded or damaged).

🐾 😊 And lastly try to keep your cool if possible this will help your pet the most.

We are expecting gale force winds and extreme rain fall over the next four days. Trees will be down and properties will be damaged and then there will be flooding. Loss of power and possibly water is one of the biggest issues we will face. No one is exactly sure how it will play out but all hoping to come through unscathed.

Right now there is underlying fear and anxiety in us humans wondering how it is all going to play out. Our pets are right in the middle of it all picking up on not only our fear and anxieties but also on the frequencies of the storm itself. Atmospheric pressure that comes with big storms like this one can be felt by all animals weeks and days before we humans actually get to see it.

Milo and Monty are two steps behind my every move at the moment not letting me out of sight, they think working in the yard to lop trees and put stuff away is great fun. The joy of big dogs is my guys are not phased by much but we are prepared as we can be. It might be a different story for them on Thursday night. The emergency essence will be close by for all of us.

To all my fellow Queenslanders in the firing line of this cyclone, stay safe and be smart. If it’s flooded forget it.

Miss Pinkie has been having a hard time of late.

Pinkie started having seizures a few months ago. They started out of the blue at 4am in the morning so you can imagine the panic and shock of what was happening. She was rushed off to the vet but didn’t really get any answers other than keep an eye on her and bring her back if she has another seizure. Mum reached out to see if I could shed any light on why Pinkie was having seizures.

In the kinesiology session a lot of things that came through had a link with helping epilepsy. Pinkie chose a number of colours to help support her, violet to help regenerate the nervous system and assist in treating epilepsy, blue to help to calm the mind and help to ease symptoms such as epilepsy, fever, sunstroke etc, and silver the colour of peace and persistence, to help release density from the body.

When I conduct sessions like these, I’m always researching and integrating the science behind the illness or disease into my kinesiology practice to deepen my understanding of what I’m working with. Energy healing and science are actually incredibly effective when both aspects are considered together allowing more depth to come through the session.

The cells in the brain communicate through chemical and electrical signals, when these signals aren’t functioning properly, the imbalance in normal brain activity can lead to seizure symptoms such as drooling, scrabbling, whining or yelping, muscle stiffness, loss of consciousness, urination and defecation. Seizures can be caused by intra cranial (inside the brain) causes or extra cranial causes (outside the brain). Some types of illness and disease can cause seizures such as liver or kidney disease, brain tumors, diabetes or underactive thyroid issues. When underlying causes can’t be found it is generally classified as idiopathic epilepsy. There are various levels of seizure activity from grand mal seizures, to partial or focal seizures, (diagnosis from a Veterinaian is a must to understand what type of seizure you are dealing with).

In this session with Pinkie, we dove deeper into the neurophysiology of the brain and worked with a brain chemistry balance. In the brain image below, you can see the areas that when muscle tested indicated an issue. A lot of emotions surfaced within this balance, helping to clear suppression and dread around hot weather (there was trauma related back to her being a rescue and being left outside in extreme hot weather, her brain literally had a meltdown).

Pinkie also chose Malachite as a crystal to help support her. Malachite helps support epilepsy and assists the correction of imbalances of the left/right hemispheres of the brain. Pinkie’s Mum also uses Emergency Essence to help her come through the seizures a little easier.

Note: Pinkie is currently under veterinary care and is now receiving medication to help control her seizures. The kinesiology sessions she has helps compliment her mainstream medical care.

How many tools do you have in your kit for your pets????

Monday this week my 10 year old arthritic Rottweiler Milo got hit from behind by her brother Monty as he was running with his toy. Milo lost her balance and went down hard with her hind leg twisted under her. She immediately yelped and groaned and as I helped her stand there is was no way she could weight bare on that hind leg.

As always my first reaction was panic and race her off to the vet thinking about the cost of xrays and the stress she would be under as the vet is her nemisis. Not a great feeling.

Something held me back this time though and made me stop and think clearly before letting the panic take to deep a hold. What can I do to help her right now? What tools have I got that will help her?

First was a quick dose of Emergency Essence to help her deal with the shock of falling and being hurt. The next tool I thought of was my cold red light laser which I used all up and down her leg. There was no swelling or immediate heat so I couldn’t tell which part of her leg was hurt the most. I worked with the laser throughout the day and that first night.

The next day Milo was still limping but starting to walk and put weight on her leg for short periods of time through the day. A friend suggested I try her on Traumeel (a blend of homeopathic remedies in a tablet form) to help with the pain and the healing of the injury. I started this straight away and the difference was immense. She was walking like there was no injury. It completely eased her pain.

I continued with the red light laser and also added in energy healing with figure 8’s and a little cranial sacral therapy (she actually doesn’t like me doing a lot of energy work on her where as Monty will take it all day everyday, every dog is an individual with their likes and dislikes even with energy healing, some love it and others not so much).

So we are now on day 4 since she was injured and to tell you the truth it is hard to believe there was even an injury. I avoided expensive xrays and trusted both myself and Milo to let me know what was the right action for us to take in this situation. I am the first person to run to the vet when I think it is needed for my dogs but sometimes you have the tools to help your pets without the anxiety, the expense and stress of taking them to the vet.

Listen to your intuitive gut feelings when it comes to your pets they will help you make the right decisions for their well-being.

I have added a few links for some of the tools that I have used to help Milo heal her injured leg.
