~Attending Therapy for the First Time~

Attending therapy for the first time can feel like a big step. It’s common to wonder whether your concerns are “serious enough,” whether you’ll know what to say or whether it will feel uncomfortable.

You don’t need to have everything worked out before you come. The first session is about understanding what’s been happening, what feels hard and what you would like to be different. Therapy is collaborative and paced according to what feels manageable.

Importantly, therapy isn’t only for crisis. Many people attend to prevent things from escalating, to improve coping or to better understand patterns in their relationships, work or parenting.

If you’ve been considering therapy but hesitating, that hesitation is very human. Often the most difficult part is making the first booking.

At Sunrise Peak Psychology, we offer evidence-based therapy for children, adolescents, adults and couples, both in clinic and through outdoor Walk and Talk sessions across Brisbane. If it feels like the right time, you’re welcome to contact our admin team or visit our website to arrange an appointment.

~Couples Counselling with Atholl Murray~

Couples counselling can offer a space to slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and find new ways of relating to one another.

Atholl Murray works with couples who want to build deeper connections, navigate conflict, and move forward through life changes with greater clarity and care. His approach is warm, collaborative and grounded in building safety and understanding as the foundation for meaningful change.

Atholl also works with individuals, supporting adults to make sense of life experiences, identity, relationships and emotional challenges, and to develop ways of living that feel more aligned, alive and sustainable.

Areas Atholl commonly supports include:
• Relationship and communication difficulties
• Navigating life transitions and major decisions
• Identity, gender and sexuality
• Emotional regulation and understanding patterns from past experiences

Atholl sees clients aged 16 years and over and is currently accepting new clients.

Appointments are available on Fridays, alternating between in-clinic sessions at Paddington and walk-and-talk sessions at Toohey Forest.

~Our clinic rooms~

Welcome to a glimpse into our clinic spaces, which are at the heart of the work we do.

Most of our therapy happens in these rooms, where we aim to create an environment that feels calm, private and welcoming. Having a space that feels safe and predictable can make it easier to slow down, talk openly and begin to make sense of things that might feel heavy or confusing.

Whether someone is coming in for the first time or returning after a break, our hope is that these rooms feel like a place where people can take a breath, feel heard and be supported at their own pace.

~Welcoming a new year at Sunrise Peak Psychology~

As we move into the start of 2026, with children heading back to school and routines beginning to return, we’re looking forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces into our practice.

This photo was taken at the end of last year when our team came together for a pre-Christmas brunch. It was also a chance to welcome Debbie to the team and to farewell Naomi as she headed off on her adventures abroad, before she returns to us later in the year.

Over the past three years, our team has grown and evolved into a supportive, thoughtful group of psychologists who value working collaboratively with one another and alongside the individuals and families we support. As with any growing practice, there have been changes along the way, including some team members increasing their availability, which means we currently have some capacity to welcome new individuals looking for support.

As the months move forward and the everyday demands of work, school and family life begin to build again, support can be a helpful part of staying steady through change.

If you’re considering seeing a psychologist or would like to explore whether support might be right for you or your child, you’re welcome to reach out to our team.

To book an appointment or get in touch, visit www.sunrisepeakpsychology.com.au or email admin@sunrisepeakpsychology.com.

~The Back to Work Blues~

Going back to work after a break can feel harder than expected. Changes in routine, social interaction and cognitive demand can trigger low mood, irritability or anxiety, even when work itself is meaningful. This response is common and reflects adjustment, not failure.

If the return feels tough, small supports can help. Easing into routines where possible, lowering expectations in the first week or two, building in brief pauses and reconnecting with activities that support regulation can all make a difference. Naming what’s difficult rather than pushing through it silently is often an important first step.

If the stress of returning to work is impacting your wellbeing, professional support can help. At Sunrise Peak Psychology, we offer evidence-based therapy for adults across clinic sessions and outdoor Walk and Talk appointments. You are welcome to reach out via our website or contact our admin team at admin@sunrisepeakpsychology.com, via our website at www.sunrisepeakpsychology.com.au or call 07 3876 2100 if you would like to explore support.

~ Welcome to 2026 ~

A gentle welcome to the year ahead.

We know that for some people, a new year feels hopeful. For others, it feels heavy, uncertain or quietly exhausting.

Wherever you are landing today, you’re welcome here. We look forward to continuing to support our community with care, steadiness and evidence-based therapy in the months ahead.

This year, we were honoured to be named a finalist in the Outdoors Queensland Annual Awards for the Beautiful Queensland – Outdoor Therapies category.

While we didn’t take home the award, we were truly humbled to be recognised alongside so many inspiring organisations, including our friends at Summit ABTS, Walkabout Training, and Jump Up For Kids, who were the well-deserved winners.

A heartfelt thank you to Outdoors Queensland for hosting such a beautiful evening and for their ongoing support of the outdoor community. Karen attended the awards dinner and had the privilege of meeting some incredible people doing amazing work in the outdoor space.
